GIGABYTE Launches Overclocking Contest

GIGABYTE has launched an overclocking contest open to anyone in the US or Canada with a GIGABYTE Intel X38 or P35 series motherboard. There is a grand prize of $2,500 for the winner, along with a GIGABYTE X48 motherboard, with the runners-up getting cash prizes ranging from $200 to $2,000 as well as goodies such as laptop bags. The contest involves overclocking your processor and uploading your 3Dmark06 score to GIGABYTE, before going head-to-head against other users, with the overclock receiving the most votes becoming the winner. The contest will run until 20th January next year - for more details, check out this page.

Yes it's a killer idea, if you got a superduper processor. Anyone not using quadcore & LN it's not even worth to try. Yeah I'm bitter, because there are no competitions for E4x00 series with air :p

But good luck for those with Gigabyte boards!

Served 5k and counting ...
The question here is though, How are they going to base the results? By percentage of overclock?

"uploading your 3Dmark06 score"

So best score wins, that's why I said anyone not using a quad has no chance no matter how much OC.

Yeah, well that makes me bitter, I was really thinking of just buying one of their motherboards. Overclocking the hell out of this celeron, this specific one I have are known to hit 5.5 on very good air cooling. 6-6.5 on watercooling. Roughly 7.5 on LN2.

Actually I believe it may use a voting system. I'll add that to the initial story to clarify things a little.

We have a similar contest for some time in Romania which is very successful:

Awesome, and useless, and it will make no difference in what board i will choose. Super idea though as tehre are always fanboys who will bend over backwards to kiss corperate ass that could influince others to buy some of their boards.

I'll enter this. I wonder if there are certain restrictions, such as no extreme cooling, only one gpu etc. My 3dmark06 is approaching 15K, but I'm only on air and one 8800GT.
