Hitachi to Form New Hard Drive Brand with Toshiba and Fujitsu?

Although not confirmed by any of the firms, this story could have your attention for a moment. According to unspecified sources Hitachi, the Japanese conglomerate, is talking to Toshiba and Fujitsu about forming a new company dedicated to hard drives and storage systems. The new company would combine the hard drive divisions of Hitachi and Toshiba as well as some of the storage systems technology from Fujitsu. Each name would own a third of the newly formed venture. It's not a secret that Hitachi is not happy with its current hard drive group, so this may be the best opportunity for them to continue in the right way.

Hitachi would have been better off starting from a fresh in the first place rather than buy IBM's failing line of deskstar hard drives and rebranding them.

Completely Bonkers
The IBM purchase was just an "executive cover-up", and exercise in Investment banking experience. Remember that at the top of every company there are individuals, and these individuals are interested in one or more of:

i) maintaining their job
ii) money
iii) take-over experience

I have a pair of 80gb Deskstar's in Raid 0, been that way since new about a year and a half now. SATA2 3.0 gb/s Just incredible! and only 50 bucks for each drive. I backed up 48GB of Data in 29 minutes.

Outliving Maxtor doesn't say much. lol.

But seriously, I have 3 Hitachi drives that are 3+yrs old. 2 in enclosures, 1 in my G5. No problems at all.
