Petition Started to Extend Windows XP Life; 75,000 Sign in Three Weeks

Infoworld started a Save XP petition on their website. The main goal of this petition is to get Microsoft to continue handing out Windows XP licenses beyond the June 30 deadline Microsoft put out. Fortunately for Windows XP diehards everywhere, an astounding 75,000 people have signed this petition so far. Infoworld plans on presenting this petition to Microsoft when they reach 100,000 signatures. If you have not already done so, I suggest you sign the petition if you feel that Windows XP should be around a little longer than June 30, 2008.

I doubt whether m$ will take any notice of this. They'll just do what they are gonna do anyway.

I wonder if there was a petition to save win98 when xp came out?

acctualy i think i made that point already, 98 was given like 2 year extention because of PUBLICK OUTCRY wanting them to keep supporting it, hence this kind of thing can and has worked.

btarunrUnfortunately Pancho, Windows 2000 doesn't support multi-threading, I doubt it would support dual-core processors :/ but yes it was a blazing fast OS.

Petition signed.
wrong it dosnt support HYPER THREDING, all versions of NT can use multi proc's, its just how NT was designed.

thats not the best but it shows that server supports 8way smp, i will look for more later i gotta go to doc appt.

Excuse me, did I deny that Win 2000 didn't support HT? Besides, sure it can take SMP but I said I wasn't sure if it supported a dual-core processor.

dual core proc's are seen a 2 sepret cpu's under 2k, even xp sees them that way, BUT xp can also tell they are on the same die so if u use 2 dual core chips in 1 system it would beable to use them under xp pro.

2k HATES hyper threding, because it sees the 2nd virtual core as a real one and tryes to run apps on it just like it was a real core(Doh!!!)

i had 2k on this box for a few days, just to test if WileE's statment to me that 2k didnt like x2/dual core chips was true, it wasnt, some of the apps didnt like it till i installed the dual core driver/optimizer, but thats true with xp/2k3/x64 and even vista.

I would rather see Microsoft expend their effort and resources on future operating systems than past ones.

That being said, if you want to sign ... go for it.

this is oppenion not fact, just as it is my oppenion that vista is a steaming pile of pig shit in need of a major update.

why do people keep posting who just want to say "xp sucks im not signing this" if you dont think its worth while STFU and dont waist your time and our time by posting inane bullshit like "xp is old, vista is new, vista rawks im not signing this"

oh and to the guy who thinks they gotta spend alot of time supporting XP if they keep it out, not really they just gotta keep making disks and putting out the same updates they would already be making for the extended support period(even after EOL ms gives like 1-3 years of downloadable updates, same as you can still use ms update with windows 2000.

everybody just wants the option to buy xp or use it supported with patches if they dont like vista, just as you vista fans want the right to use vista and think its the best os ever made period(eww)

Chillymist not all vista users say that you guys obviously prefer xp and i can understand that the fact that so many ppl havnt migrated to vista shows there are problems that need to be addressed. Ill be interested to see what happens what sp1 does and while i dont condone the not vote response i dont think your response is helpful as all it does is get an unnesasary flame war going.

so, its 30seconds of your life, and if you have problems with vista and go back to xp it just means you will have better support from ms.

xp x64(server 2003 x64 in pro mode) has support for a good bit longer, but xp 32 isnt even gonna see an sp3 at this rate, dispite MS saying there would def be an sp3.......funny about that, they said the same thing about an sp5 for 2000 then all we got was a "roll up" pack that was missing stuff :/
