Samsung Sued for Defective Blu-ray Players

Samsung's slate of Blu-ray players have been plagued with issues essentially from day one, and while it has released a flurry of firmware updates over the years in an attempt to mend a variety of incompatibility issues, even its recent BD-UP5000 hybrid player is being axed early on after giving owners all sorts of fits. Apparently, one particular buyer isn't taking things lying down, and has decided to file suit against the mega-corp alleging that it has sold "defective Blu-ray players" to consumers. According to the suit, Sammy was "fully aware of the defective nature of the player [BD-P1200, in particular] at the time of manufacture and sale," and it also claims that the firm has "failed to provide a remedy consistent with the products' intended and represented uses." More specifically, the verbiage picks on the units' inability to play back select BD titles, and while some fixes have indeed been doled out, we still get the feeling many consumers have been left dissatisfied. Needless to say, this outcome should be interesting.

about time!
I guess they were suppose to "just get a pS3" after spending close to $1000 for those players! I guess this proves that reasoning wrong,

I can't wait for the PS3 class action lawsuit. The Playstation 3 forums are littered with failed BluRay players that can't read games or movies.

Do I smell something that says there are going to be problems with some of the other Blu Ray stand alone players too soon as those people who have those players from the other companies hear about this lawsuit?

It's amazing that no one comes in defense of this news. Anyone who hasn't a clue of what's going on could believe that this maybe more serious then first thought.

I have never had a problem with my ps3 playing movies or games. Those complainers probably screwed the pooch on theirs.

Samsung on the other hand, seems to be rushing products out the door. Hence why its good to wait for 3rd or 4th generation of hardware. (evidenced by the Phenom proc)

3rd or 4th generation of hardware.
Sometimes it can take up to a decade for hardware to mature and you know how people in general are in a hurry to get the latest tech. Heck, I can remember tons of crappy/faulty CD-RW drives from LG and several other manufacturers in late 1990s, drives that were worth up to $600 in some cases. Everything from faulty trays to malfunctioning lasers. I don't remember anyone suing anyone though. Or look at the LCD tech. Myself, I haven't seen an LCD that didn't have a fault, and I'm talking about brand-new out-of-the-box items, but I think that has to do with inherent shitiness of LCD tech in general. :D
