Yeah but SDK is coming out soon, so you can't expect anything too big.

Lots of minor stuff fixed like the reception dropping or emails/messages not being sent.

Waiting for an activation workaround... Got an iPhone today, not sure if I should try and jailbreak it now (1.1.2) or wait for a 1.1.4 activation thing.

Just jail break that sucker now. I used Ziphone for my 1.1.2 and it took literally 3 minutes total. You can always restore it to original setting with itunes should something undesirable happens. Now I just need a reliable ftp to transfer files to and from my iphone.

If your on windows I use winSCP, its gravy to use and its free ware, no cracking or registering.

Hostname: "phones ip address" port : 22
Username : root
Password : alpine

then connection type is: scp

Than BAM, your in

i was responding to a questions about a reliable FTP program to access the iphone to copy files to and from the phone. ;)

Also for you, Ziphone is a program that jailbreaks , activates, and unlocks your iphone with a simple click. THE FIRST thing you should do is find out what firmware you have. Check the back and give me the serial number. Or, if your not comfortable with that, when did you buy the phone and form where? If its version 1.1.2 or 1.1.3, then connect the phone to your pc, let it install itself. DO NOT open itunes. Then in Ziphone you will want to check 4 boxes activate, jailbreak, unlock, then I think its called "verbose". check those four, do it, then wait about 3 - 5 minutes and its done.

I went into Field Test mode and it's 1.1.2.

But I gave Ziphone a miss because I read some rather unsavoury and unflattering things about Zibri, the coder. Turns out I may have shot myself in the foot with that move because right now I'm doing the friendly, more complicated method and after down-grading to 1.1.1 I've discovered I can't download AppSnapp because my dumbass uni firewall is blocking it.

Needless to say I have a feeling running Ziphone now would be a bit risky

I've been trying this ftp for the last 3 days. It sucks big time. It constantly disconnect my iphone. Yes, I've read the tutorial and followed everything to the T. Many people have the same problem. Also tried cuteftp, still no luck. Is there a direct program to transfer and create file in iphone? I have IMToo Ipod Transfer but that's only for music, video, playlist, and picture. Don't know if other file formats will work. Tempted to try Ibrckr but it tried to download my firmware to like 1.0.2 or something like that. I like to keep it at 1.1.2 cuz some app will only work with this firmware. Any help into transferring file is much appreciated. I have a long boring white coat ceremony coming next friday and would love to have NES games on my iphone to kill the time and many boring speeches.

Well, im also on 1.1.2 bootloader 4.6 and have had no problems at all with winSCP. You should check your wireless connection as well as your firewall settings. Also make sure your OpenSSH is up to date and ENABLED as well as BDSubsystem. But, actually I used Ibrickr to copy my NES roms originally. it worked fine. Ibrickr gives you the ability to delete and create folders, as well as transferr and back up files. The only thing it does not do is allow you to rename. If you use Ibrickr v0.91 make sure you put your nes roms in var/Mobile/Media/ROMs/NES/(Place .rom files here). You will have to create the Media ROMs and NES folder. make sure the casing is right too.

I went the long way. According to one guide it doesn't Activate your iPhone, while the Jailbreak 1.1.2 readme says in the final step that "factory hactivates" the iPhone for you...

And try as I might, I can't actually find a place to download Ziphone...

Hah! Wait no I might try WinSCP to transfer anySIM over..

well, if your jailbroken on 1.1.2 thats fine. The sim is NOT supposed to work yet. You still have to unlock your phone. Jailbreaking is only half of the process. Here, i will give you a copy and paste of a guide I wrote in another forum that will help and explain everythign to you:

www.modmyifone.com/forums/showthread.php?t=25560

read my response to the question. Its all you need. You need to follow from the point after you have jailbroken 1.1.2. Adding the source for iclarified and installing openssh and bsdsubsystem. then running geohotz unlock.

What's the diff between using SCP and SFTP to move stuff to and from the iPhone?

In winSCP the connection type has to be set to SCP. Its a more secure connection.

SCP (Secure Copy) is a non-interactive command-line tool for securely transmitting files from a machine to another. It is a secure replacement for RCP and provides a similar command-line syntax. SCP is strongly based on SFTP but is often a more suitable choice when setting up unattended file transfers using scripts.

SFTP (Secure File Transfer Protocol) is a secure replacement for FTP (File Transfer Protocol) based on the Secure Shell protocol. Unlike FTP, SFTP encrypts both commands and data providing effective protection against common network security risks. SSH Client and Server provide both command-line SFTP tools and a graphical user interface for Windows users. SFTP encrypts the session, preventing the casual detection of your username, password or anything you've transmitted.

The major reason for implementing SFTP versus FTP is security. FTP is not even remotely secure. During an FTP session, your username and password are transmitted in clear text. If someone is eavesdropping, it is not difficult for them to log your FTP username and password.

In FTP all data is passed back and forth between the client and server without the use of encryption. This makes it possible for an eavesdropper to listen in and retrieve your confidential information including login details. With SFTP all the data is encrypted before it is sent across the network.

SFTP is not the same as FTP/S; the latter implements the original FTP protocol through a separately-created secure tunnel.

SCP is simple safe and easy for unattended transferrs.

When you click install, click the "clear queue" button, then try re-downloading the package.

Legend!

Just out of curiosity, what's the diff between GeoHot and anySim and Ziphone etc etc?

Put another way, what's the best way for me to get to 1.1.3 now?

Dont really know. im stickin with 1.1.2 for now. 1.1.3 is not really offering me anything yet. PLUS, most of the apps in Installer.app are built for 1.1.2 systems. BUT, i do know there is a soft update to 1.1.3 in installer. all you have to do is click it. But, if you ask me, I would suggest sticking with 1.1.2. Oh, and the geohotz 1.1.2 ,1.1.3 unlock is the official way to unlock your baseband so you can use any sim card from any network. Make sure you install iworld also if your going to travel.

I really wanted to use SummerBoard but it says it only works on 1.1.3.

I was originally planning to wait for a 1.1.4 unlock and go straight to that since it fixes everything that went wrong with 1.1.3. Guess I'll stick with that cos I saw an old version of SummerBoard floating around somewhere.

Call me an idiot, but why isn't UK on the iWorld list?
