Thermalright Ready With Ultra-120 eXtreme 1366 RT

Thermalright, better known for aluminum fin blocks based coolers, is ready with a Core i7 supportive variant of the Ultra-120 eXtreme cooler. The cooler comes with the same Ultra-120 eXtreme heatsink, consisting of 52 aluminum fins across six heat-pipes, with the required bolt-through retention module for LGA-1366 socket, along with the fluid-dynamic bearing fan which operates at ~1600 rpm with a noise level of 29 dBA.

Thermalright will be announcing this cooler shortly.

I think yes. This cooler comes with just the LGA-1366 RM, so you can't use it on LGA-775/AM2.

:laugh: you're right, the fan mount does make it look like a hair clipper!

Whats the fuss? Why to bother with aftermarket cooling if its limited to specific heat output, that stock cooler should be designed to handle. And these who can afford 965 probably will use water coonling.

It's not strange at all for sinks to use a bridge that puts pressure on the center of the cooler... you see it on a lot more sinks than just the Zalman 9500 and 9700. I own a 9500 with a central bracket and that's why I made the comment. :ohwell:

Well, I got a pair HR-01 X's last week, they come with two pieces of preshaped wire to mount fans. They're too short, don't work at all. I ended up tie-wrapping a fan to the sink. Cools well though.

Apart from that, the cooler seems mostly the same again. Just a different retention bracket. So nothing new there.

Thats because the IHS on cpu's isn't perfectly flat either, they bow in the middle slightly.

I'm totally confused. We're talking about the way the fan mounts, correct? How is that at all similar to the way the fan on this cooler mounts?

according to thermalright they are made that way on purpose as apart of the retention mech. Also several tests have been done on lapped and unlapped Trues and lapping makes little difference.

I had that, i had to lap both my CPU and my IHS in order to get good temps - two of my cores were 10C hotter than the other two.

I don't think Thermalright cares about Intel's heat shield, as I said they make the base of the True slightly curved as apart of the retention mech. What Intel does is up to them. I emailed the techs at Thermalright and they assured me that when they make a heat sink worth 50.00 to 100.00 depending on the model they know what they are doing and that if they thought a flat bases was needed they would produce one. They also states a lapped True doesn't perform any better then one thats unlapped. Then they went on to say the base of the True is made the way it is on purpose. Don't kill the messenger but this info came right from the company.

my point was just that because on X CPU lapping made no differnce, doesnt mean that on Y CPU it wont make a huge difference.
