HP Offers Laptop Batteries with Three-Year Life Span
Hewlett-Packard (HP) on Monday began offering as an accessory to its consumer laptops batteries that can hold their capacity for up to three years. The new batteries are the work of Boston-Power, and use updated lithium-ion technology that is said to be better than other similar solutions. Boston-Power's Sonata battery will be available as optional choice for 18 existing notebook models representing approximately 70 percent of HP's consumer notebook PC portfolio. Boston-Power claims its batteries won't give up their capacity for three years, that's roughly three times longer than most other notebook batteries offered to date. In addition, the Sonata accumulators can recharge faster, reaching 80% of capacity in 30 minutes. Lastly, HP will give a three year warranty for each Sonata battery. Available now at HP, the $149.99 accessory Sonata battery fits models in the HP Pavilion, HP HDX, Compaq Presario and HP G series. A complete list of compatible individual models is available here. More information on the battery itself can also be found on Boston-Power's site here.

Wish I had something like that for my laptop.
Well answer me this Einstein, if this battery is so f**king awesome why not release them with ALL/EVERY HP laptop available - that way they build up the company rep a little more & gain more sales that way too rather then just making it a 'over priced' optional???
I mean - doesnt EVERYONE want a laptop battery that wont degrade with time?? I think people would give much kudos to HP if they included the battery as standard on many of their models. this added feature would give people more reason to purchase a HP laptop. but then again HP just like everyone else are just out to make $$$
Though these news come as a surprise to me as I recently bought an HP HDX 16t, and it comes with the regular bundled half-assed battery type of thingy that they all do, and now they come telling me about some new battery that claims to last me 3 years...
This updated lithium-ion are available for mobile phones , over a year now .
About the warranty time is exactly the time that old lithium-ion stays alive , so the new ones does last longer ... but how much Amps are still usable ? if they drop down fast, who needs them.
also nothing sells better then a company with a good reputation. & in a market which is already saturated with so many features that almost EVERY laptop has - its good to see something different appear no matter however small the impact that it makes on laptops in general.
Its either just plain stupid or stupidly marvalous. Lets see how many people will buy this new battery.
Get the latest HP power drill , plus two batteries .. :p
