Google Launches Free Music Site

Google's Chinese free music download service (here) has now been officially launched to provide legal, quality tracks to the Chinese people. Google is cooperating with www.top100.cn on this project. Currently, the service offers about 350,000 songs from both Chinese and international artists. In the upcoming months, this number should increase to around 1.1 million tracks.

The service has the blessing of all major record labels - Warner, Universal, Sony BMG and EMI, and sees Google share the advertising revenue generated by the download site with content providers. This enables users to get their music legally and should also help lower the piracy levels in China.

Does a lot of bad things for them, too, not like they care, though.

However, even though I can't read anything on the site, this leads me to believe that this site isn't all that bad:

There is a yellow notice informing you that its not available in your area.

To be a Chinese,so much information and convenience are free to all Chinese. It's easy for Chinese not only to get games music movie sports live and so on but also to buy products are not released in China.Listen to some Chinese music,in my opinion they are wonderful. You can use proxy to change your IP,many Chinese have done that way long ago to breakthrough the Goverment's firewall. We know the world, but you don't understand us well.May be the next century, everybody chooses Chinese as their foreign language to study.:respect:

I wish the Chinese people the best of luck -- a very smart people, however they have a very crappy and oppressive government. Hopefully they'll work together to form a new government that's a bit more modern one day!

To be honest, regardless of how many speak it, Chinese isn't as important in the world as even French is. French isn't as widely spoken as English, but it's used as on official language by many multinational organizations like the IOC.

Let's be honest, the Chinese people speak Chinese, and that's about it. And they largely keep to themselves.

i hate how the government decides what to censor and what information needs to be withheld from public ears. i swear currency needs to go.. thats whats keeping us back..w/e though....ill just use torrents...music is still borderline, but if you download music at least watch your fav bands in concert.

I don't see why, they could have picked any country to do this in buy they picked china, wtf did the chose china for, china has just about more piracy than every country in the world combined, so wtf will this do, even if it has drm, all they're doing is just going like ok we give up, heres all the music,

I mean come on, I have never bought something online from china without fearing it was fake and usually it was.

who will they give it to next, the hackers in russia
