Silverstone Raven 2 Case Spotted at Computex

Silverstone is getting ready to present the Raven 2 at the show, starting tomorrow. We were able to take a few pictures of the chassis already. It is much more compact than the original Raven, but features the same unique layout in which the mainboard is mounted with the rear slots facing upward.

Silverstone has packed the case with an AMD based motherboard and four Radeon 4870X2s. The bottom of the case holds three, what appear to be, 200 mm fans which pull air into the case and the power supply is mounted so that it has access to cool air, blowing it out the top as well.

Silverstone has included a special mount for an SSD and a hole to gain access to the cooler backplate of the mainboard on the side of the case as well.

MKmodsIf Case Mfgrs are gonna show off their "New" cases why do they all use drunk monkeys to do their wiring?
:laugh::laugh::laugh:
MKmods(If I had a company that made cases and modular PSs seems simple to me to make an optional wiring harness with a custom length for the killer case....)
this is true, but then ....what are you going to apply your expertise on? :D

intel igentlook's like it just vent's to the room? care to show what you're talking about?

i would have to say that this design is ingenious! the positioning of the component's promote natural cooling which will only further improve on any active cooling implemented in the case :toast:
Well lets see,Take you computer you have now and cover the whole back with tin foil and make sure you stuff all the wires and cables in there and cut some slits in it and see how that goes.:)

Nice simple case:D
I'd take this over the New Corsair:P

Soylent JoeWhy is all the I/O stuff on top? Yeah, it'd help with being able to change out stuff easily, but you'd have things sticking out the top and it'd just be weird.
I think the raven has a cover that slides on?? the cords still run out the back, I think it looks great. Atleast its not as big! i like Midtowes (REAL ONES not the ones between that clame to be when they are huge) so i think its prety cool.

If you love the Raven 2 case, then you will love this video ;-) :toast:
wow thanx!! still kinda big but still prety cool thanx for the link!

:wtf: you must be looking at a different case? if you got enough stuff plugged into your mobo to block airflow i think you need a server case not a tower

i still don't see anything that would impede airflow enough to increase temp's  as i stated earlier the cooling of this case would prolly be amazing! :D

Finally! An upside down case. I like it. How much! When!

WhilhelmI like it, it doesn't look as crazy as the first version which is kind of a good thing.
gvblake22Agreed, definitely better than the first. Props to Silverstone for always trying something new! :rockout:
Exactly my thoughts. Didn't like the first one, but this one is much more slick. Bending and routing DVI-cables will be iffy though. My 5m DVI-to-HDMI cable wouldn't like to bend to that space. (edit: the cards are quite low though, so just fine).

First mod would be to put a fan on the top left corner, so that it helps the GPU hot air out. Now the case fan kinda creates a barrier in between. Now after market coolers that leave the heat inside would be fine or even better :)

it's because of the plastic on the first one it looks horrible.

I know alot of folks don't like the orientation, but I have to say, Silverstone hit a home run. Given thermal properties all the heat pretty much will rise up and go out. Couple with the fans, its damn smart.

i don't know why i imagine this design have bad cooling

Because it is (good eye)

1st- the PS fan is wasted here (its intake is through the right side of the case instead of exhausting the case (just like the silly PSs on the bottom))

2nd-There is 3 intakes but only 1 exhaust fan

3rd- since they are trying to have flow from the bottom up (good in theory) mounting the Hdds and DVD flat like that blocks the airflow (just silly). If they mounted the Hdds and DVD on their sides air would be allowed to pass much easier.

4th 5th 6th did I mention the totally stupid way of mounting the PS?

1.) You should never use or count a PSU as an exhaust fan. Feeding it it's own supply of cold air is better for it, and will allow it to run cooler, more efficient, and last longer. Invalid point.

2.) You may be right, but positive pressure will still push a fair amount of air out, so the negative effects are much less than most think. I tested this extensively with my Stacker 830, but still, you are right that a more even approach would be better.

3.) I have to agree here, sideways would be better. But I'm also willing to bet that the negative effects are less than you would think on this as well.

4th, 5th, and 6th: See #1.

So, in short, I completely disagree with point 1, but agree mostly with 2 and 3, save the severity of the mishaps.

Using PSU as exhaust fan is the silly thing. The hotter the PSU is the less effective it gets and more noisier. Hence bottom mounted PSUs/or the way it's done here.

Different thing is when you have some cool running CPU with integrated graphics idling inside the case, while tweeting on twitter. Then you can have the PSU on the regular spot and as the only fan in the system.

I have my PSU upside down on top, just because I don't want it to suck all the hot air from the CPU. Next case will have one of those "silly PSs on the bottom" :)

edit: Wile E was faster
