OFFICIAL Elite: Dangerous

back in 2003 they didn't have mining ships in EVE so I would fit mining lasers to my Frigate and haul the ore like a dozen systems away until I made enough isk to buy a hauler and kept doing the same thing over and over until I got blown up and lost everything lol

I lost an 11b jump freighter last week because I misplaced my cyno and bumped off the station..

It does.. but it doesn't... it still doesn't compare to the cruelty that can be eve.. Also doesn't compare to the depth, this game is still incredibly shallow.

I don't know that it's fair to call it "incredibly shallow." It's definitely not the depth that eve has though.

Ya for the market, trading and empire guy, Elite is shallow. For the pilots out there though the experience is better imho, especially in combat, I'd rather fly around, have options to maneuver versus flying circles upon circles waiting for the most powerful hull and weapons to win. But for me, I'm more in it for the combat and pilot experiences.

I agree Eve and Elite can't really be compared, they have different goals, focus, and visions.

Eve is way more market based, to the point several accounts and treating it like a second day job seems to be more common than I thought (until I interviewed folks I knew that were interested in Elite...). Sorry I'd rather fly than manage markets. Eve combat makes me sad, I'll stick to the more pilot-experience oriented space sims for now, I like my combat much more than my markets at this point. Plus I don't have time for Eve..yet! :D

Is Eve Valkyrie out yet? I have heard that might be pretty good for the Eve combat pilot needs of folks like myself. :D

The more I listen to these stories the more I want to buy it :(

you need to generate an income in EVE to do anything. there are lots of other ways to make isk. I usually rat or manufacture. is this not the case in Elite: Dangerous?

Not yet, and when it is out it will require an oculus rift to play. Perhaps even an oculus rift exclusive title.

So far from what I have read it will be a Rift Exclusive.

there won't be a 2D version.

You start out with a small but fun and useful ship, the Sidewinder and 4,000cr iirc. Long post warning! Yes you can do things, combat, mining, missions, smuggling, pirating, can all be done pretty early on in the game. I was able to get into bounty hunting within my first couple hours quite easily.

Not much, but you can pick up missions at no cost to you, delivery/courier missions. You earn rep for the party that you do missions for in that system, they eventually offer navy/military missions, you can work your way up.

You can work up and buy different ships, weapons, shields, hulls, scanners and more. You can trade and adjust your ship loadout for that. You can go on bounty hunting missions, either from station missions or of your own accord. You can be a pirate and plunder trade routes and mining hot spots.

Sure to get the big ships and better weapons, you need funds, but to start out and do things such as missions, combat, etc, you don't need much. It can be pretty easy to earn 100k+ hr, which for early game is PLENTY.

Work with a few friends and join their Wing, and you can share in the wealth and know someone has your back on a mining run or trade route.

You can play in different modes, so if you want to play alone and don't want to worry about players bugging you, play in solo mode, then its you vs ai. Or play in online and take more risks. The universe is affected equally by both sections of the game, as neither is offline.

I ran a lot of missions and would go to the Nav Points at stars with my combat-oriented Eagle, scan for wanted ships and take them out. Go collect bounties. I worked up to a Cobra MkIII pretty easily. My friends went miners in their early game, and enjoyed it for a little bit, but the mining in this game is tedious...they're supposed to be fixing that and I hope they do.

I could go on more...I really do enjoy this title. Yes there are billionaires and it's hard for most to get to that level, and yes some ships and upgrades are stupid expensive. I enjoy my Cobra (bounty hunting/combat) and T6 (trading) for what I do atm. I'll get a bigger, better, badder ship sometime in the future, but I'm enjoying what I do until I get there instead of forcing myself into the grind.

The complaints you read are legit and justified, but the way I play it doesn't bug me. Plus if I do get bothered I go play SC alpha. Though I enjoy Elite's combat more. And the audio in this game is amazing!

:toast:

thanks for the post :)

are they adding any kind of sovereignty? any valuable resources or commodities? whats the end game here? I don't enjoy suicide ganking or attacking haulers and i'm no carebear! I'm like the Gunny in my corp lol

Take that you Ruskies...... AND RECOVER

I have a fetish for blowing people up lol

You should search Elite: Dangerous out on Youtube. :)

You can align with parties, there are rare items and commodities for trading already, there are markets, supply and demand markets, etc.

You can have weapons, your ship is reconfigured. Many ships are capable of multiple roles either independently or some can do two roles well simultaneously depending on how you equip it and can pilot it. You could setup a fake mining op as a trap for pirates. :D

Though even doing a real mining op would net more income, and if you're out there, why not? Especially if you're in a wing, have 1-2 miners and 1-2 guys hiding in the asteroid field silently waiting for pirates to jump in. Pretty fun!!!

Ok guys, a galnet post was posted early, taken down, but will be back up.
There is a competition going up. Spawning throughout the galaxy's stations randomly and rarely will be "NVIDIA TITAN X Prototype" canisters. First 5 commanders to buy one and fly it to a station listed as Nividia's HQ (I don't remember which one) will get a free TITIAN X upon release. :D

Oops. My bad. It may be a TITAN Black. The article said black, but also said the winners would get one when they were released and said "black prototypes" Makes me think it may have been a mistake.

Well put alot of time into it the past few days now sitting at just under 2mil CR from 5k I love the game. finally got a feel for weapons loadouts and the rank system. Had a good bout with combat after moving some things around im pretty confident in high intensity zones now though most of the time i hit extraction sites for cash. I try and search all unidentified signals that I can. I cant wait to get the fer de lance but i have alot to go. not to mention I need to find a port that sells them. All in good time I guess.

I'm coming back to this game after burning out on it for a bit around 1.05. I'm flying a Viper iirc, pretty decent little darty ship for early game I thought. Anyhow, I don't remember it's exact build but is there anything I should know / fear coming back to the game now in Single player? Does wings add encounters against well, wings, that I should be wary of? I tend to be a trader so I would like to know if running through uninhabited space like I do might be worth avoiding.

This was my big fear currently yes to answer your question pirates/wanted (NPCs) also can travel in wings.

Then I guess my "cargo trading Viper" build I have is good. The idea being when I get jumped, I can run like hell, lol...

I can only carry 16 items worth at the moment, but I'll work on that...

That's what the Cobra is good for!

honestly the Vipre is a bit better as an early fighter class if your going all bubbafet

That's what the Cobra is good for!

This x100 The cobra has decent maneuverability cargo and shes got distracting fire power if someone wants to get a little too close. Properly outfitted this would be far better for a hauler looking after his holds.

I prefer the Cobra for fighting too. Faster and better shields. It is a bit more expensive when you start kitting it with A grade parts though.

I haven't been playing too much, but I logged in last night and discovered I made a ton of money for a community goal I participated (a lot) in. I currently have a fully kitted Cobra and 26 Million credits in the bank!

I have a type 7, but considering selling it and just keeping the spare cash. I've got a type 6, two vipers, a hauler, a type 6, and an eagle. My brother plays on my account. :p

EDIT: And a vulture. :P

im so jealous!!! money is incredibly slow for me. I shyed away from the cobra to the vipre after trying it I think I was suffering power plant issues. but im not really a hauler so i figured id fit better in a vipre for now (the ultimate goal being the FDL!!!!!!!!!!!! <3) its a slow climb but ill get their! I will probably go back to the cobra if you think its worth it and I have a few more CR.
