it is an MMO. Sure, you can play it singleplayer but what fun is that? In order to enjoy MMOs you need to play with people and you need to play it often. For me, it is worth probably 5-6 hours of my time just to fly around space and go pew pew.

I had alot of fun with single player. I play PvE in all of my MMOs anyway. I'm too old to deal with the toxic ass communities of todays MMOs. I play with a private group and we have fun.

See I'm on the other end, I enjoy flying around solo. Sometimes I'll line up with some friends, most times I don't and I totally don't mind. I can do my own thing, if my kids need something I don't gotta hold anyone back to step away for a moment, and I can go where and do what I want. :D

I'm in the same boat as Solaris. Well put! :)

They removed the MMO tagging from most descriptions of this game because they failed so hard at making it a true MMO, but they still need to flesh those features out...because most folks are like you and want the coop experience... if it were better I might be more inclined. I know too many friends that are MMO fiends that got bored quickly with this and went back to what they were running. This title is getting there and they have an excellent and long running plan for adding more content over years. I'm looking forward to Horizons.

But it's a MMO you can play without others too don't forget and still be a part of the community challenges.

what would be cool is that you could team up and do missions together and both of you get awarded be all so nice if this was possible while planet jumping discovering places ( it would just have to show the names of that group is all ) and it be cool if you could coop the some of the community challenges to.

For example like if you were to protect a trader you would get payed for it too. Trading resources back and forth is very boring and truly believe if you could have friends to watch you back who would get payed the same as the trader did for the support given as some times you need that protection even more so on community challenges.

I have 603 hours in tot he game and the games pretty dead to me now as it's just wash and repeat.

Different game but basically i would say you would just get bored of it like you did with D3 and shits always changing in that game were with ED not enough is changing.

Well the CQC Arena is right around the corner for all those looking for their "pew pews"I am hoping it might be enough to satisfy the random gankers and spare some traders lives.

Well check out twitch and youtube videos, they'll give you a pretty good idea imo. If you're a space sim geek and like science, get this imo. Especially for the price. It's good. I don't know how many hours I have. But I have really enjoyed the game...its nice to hop between MP and SP, it's cool if I want to explore, mine, trade.

Wings (the coop/team part) isn't fleshed out enough yet..but is a start and can be fun.

I really (as I've said before) enjoy the combat. Many users complain about the slow yaw they implemented, but once adjusted I don't notice and am not bothered with it. I like how different ships sound and handle. This game has a very small installation footprint...under 4GB versus Star Citizen's 36GB in Alpha currently.

Honestly I'd say get this and SC Alpha, and enjoy the hell out of both, especially with Elite being on sale, you can own both for about the price of Elite at its normal price. Great value... SC's combat is good but annoying and the flight model is better than it was a year ago...but still seems off to me....maybe its an adjustment thing.

Elite is awesome, but if you like to play till you burn out...or require a well fleshed out coop/MMO experience...you might look elsewhere...EVE, SC when it releases, etc.

It has coop and MMO, community driven stuff...sure, and with the 1.3 powers there's more to do all over the place, but they still have a lot to add. Its in the works, but some items could be years away...

I say get it and enjoy, but don't hate me if you don't look at some gameplay vids and even check Elite Dangerous forums. There's a lot that love this title and a lot that hate it....

Elite for me is about the pilot experience. I mean you have to fly into rotating (to the correct speed to correlate for proper gravity forces) space stations, land at the correct pad without running into stuff. Smuggling for me at least is still a semi challenging process (because I rarely do it and suck in FA-Off with the HOTAS!!!).

If you like to be a pilot...go for it...if you need a run around MMO...well that's coming I'm sure, but Elite ain't it right now.

I really want to like this game but I dont know if I would. It doesnt seem like you can actually get out an explore any planets. I like how the ships can be voice controlled (saw a streamer do it today was impressed by that). And from what ppl are saying it seems as though the game is short and repetitive. Also, it seems like you suck more energy out of suns and other resources to get fuel more than you do anything else.

I refuel between jumps and that's really it...fuel is cheap at stations too. I spend more time in combat and doing missions that I like to run. :)

Elite Dangerous Horizons is coming with planetary landings, surface exploring, etc.

Under 6GB I think would be more accurate. I just re-installed it (I hadn't since i re-installed Windows 10,) and it was a good 5.5GB-ish big IIRC. I re-installed it because I had played too much of it and needed a break but, I think I'm ready to play it again. :p

I'll check when I get home...I did a fresh install of 10 on my workstation at home, and I wanna say Elite 1.3 (at least before pre-loading the 1.4 CQC stress test this week) was at 3.7GB. Regardless, 3, 6, 8GB...whatever...it's TINY compared to about any other new game out there. :)

I'll see you on the frontier commander.

@TheMailMan78 Well do you like FPS killing zombies more or space ship geekery more? :D Get both!!!

Now I'm torn between this and Killing Floor 2. Not sure which I would like more.

the first killing floor got bring after 2 hours.

im not a fan of multiplayer space battles because the kids always win with their $200 flight sticks. ive got a full time job and kids. aint nobody got time for that. i wish i could JUST play against parents who work 40 hours a week and have young kids who take up their weekends. at least we would all be at the same playing level.

I played over 200 hours in D3. Now I know that's not anything compared to you but that's a LOT for me. If its like D3 I would buy it in a second.

Generally if you can get 100+ hours of some thing it's a good buy and ED will take up some time for sure, Kursah has always said good things about flight with ED and i could not agree more it even shows how much better it is in ED then SC.

If any thing i loved about ED was the learning experience and fighting with other craft.

So if you like space well i can tell you this there is plenty of it to explore and then loads more, if you like flying well this surly has that to and a very good job they did too.

Content is were the game fails which is a real dam shame as after bouncing back and forth 100's of time for a community challenge to deliver cargo back and forth gets tiresome.

it's worth the 27$ they are asking for it for sure. as for KF2 meh it's same old same old so if you not played a space sim for a long time and you love them well it's a no brainer it be ED all day long.

And if the driving is as much fun flying \ combat is it's going me epic, how ever last time i looked it be a addon you will have to buy.

EDIT:

Well you kinda could, you just have to find the people you want to play with.

I picked up Killing Floor 2. I realized I am a far more impulsive/violent kinda of player and as much as I would love to play Elite Dangerous (I refuse to call it "ED". That's for erectile dysfunction and I wont pay 26 bucks for that!) I don't think I am a big enough geek for that anymore. I just like blowing stuff up and laughing at chaos. I don't want to "think" anymore. lol Elite Dangerous seems like a game where I might have to do some planning.........I wanna make things go boom.

Anyway thanks for the feedback and suggestions guys! Its much appreciated.

The two different kinds of gamers. Ill let you figure out which one I am lol

KF2 is more killing and it's on the floor and not in space and you made the right choice man! It's my go to game now. I tried ED, and I can't even dock or launch... Of course I'm home sick and medicated.. I can say ED in VR is really good and one of the biggest reasons I bought it.. I have to find my flight stick, because the default Xbox 360 controllers I don't like... I can use the 360 controller on Star Citizen just fine.. If someone has the configuration file to make the 360 controller fly like SC, then hook me up. :toast:

the first killing floor got bring after 2 hours.

im not a fan of multiplayer space battles because the kids always win with their $200 flight sticks. ive got a full time job and kids. aint nobody got time for that. i wish i could JUST play against parents who work 40 hours a week and have young kids who take up their weekends. at least we would all be at the same playing level.

This M&KB control has broken my mind. Too used to games like Freelancer. Horizontal rotation being mapped to A and D while vertical rotation is mapped to mouse up and down seems wrong. I keep speeding up and down when I actually want to pitch.

I take it you are not a big fan?

@erocker is a huge space sim fan and he said it gets redundant. What is your beef with it?

I actually preordered it for much more and ended up hating it. lol

I refuel between jumps and that's really it...fuel is cheap at stations too. I spend more time in combat and doing missions that I like to run. :)

Elite Dangerous Horizons is coming with planetary landings, surface exploring, etc.

Idk, I think all that should've been included with the game in the first place.
Flying around in the void of space is cool and all, but there is only so much of that you can take.

I did have a lot of fun playing Elite with other people. Solo it gets kinda rough unless you just want to grind for something.

All of these new space games confuse me. Is this the roberts space industry one?
The one you're thinking of is Star Citizen :)

This game a while ago got me absolutely furious, I actually gave up on it and thought I'd never return to it. I will some day though, maybe when I have a Vive :)
I even felt the need to make a rant thread about my previous experience - "I'm DONE with Elite: Dangerous"

The default keybindings on the keyboard are a bit strange. You may need to move them around a little bit to get a better feeling with it. There is at least two where I swap positions and invert it but, I don't recall exactly which movement it was that I did that with. It has been too long since I've played. Maybe I'll give it some time in the morning.
