I like finding things. Found some first discoveries in my Viper, despite it being jump range lame (I bought it almost by accident, long story that ends in me being stubborn, lol).

Anyways, check out this sector if you want some "First Found" ice balls courtesy me (CMDR OSlov):

Scorpii Sector KC-V A2-3

PS: My recent binge in this game was inspired by Pluto. :p

A ASP fully kitted out will set you back around 35m and for the others higher than that you want to hold your breath before finding out.
This. I had something like 6m on hand, traded in the Vulture for something like 25 or 30 and I'm left with 2m. The big ticket item was the most powerful FSD. I can jump 30LY though. :3
PS: My recent binge in this game was inspired by Pluto. :p
I stopped for a bit but, it's because if I go too gung-ho with a game for too long, there is a good bet that I won't return. The whole pluto thing was a push but, I had already been thinking about doing some 'splorin'. :p

What I really like though is going so far out that every scan I make is going to be a new discovery and a bonus for me. I won't return to civilization for several days so I can accumulate as much as I can before going back. Plus, going back takes time.

Side note: It's times like these where I wish I had a single GPU so I could run ED in windowed mode. I tend to multi-task while I explore for some pretty obvious reasons. :)

Yeah did that a few weeks ago for a fraction how ever gets really boring after a while made some creds though but most were not though actual exploring but though the challenge.

And yeah need to do some thing while doing it how ever i only id planets\systems that were worth doing and just put some tunes on lol. Be nice if they made that part of the game more coop too :p.

I just want to see cooperative space station missions at the least so people can get together and gain ranks.

Yeah, but when you fly out *really* far, every jump has worth-while things to scan, so long as it's not a single star that's 500k ls away. :p

Between today and yesterday, I've scanned maybe 4 or 5 systems with ~6-15 plants each that had not been explored at all. It adds up when you go to turn them in. :p

Example, this is the system I'm currently exploring. No names on it yet. :)

By time you scanned all those i would of scanned 30 systems and when in a community challenge it will pay off even bigger. i made 25 mill just from the challenge excluding systems i found i stayed at the 15% marker. The time it takes to scan every thing is just not worth it while in a challenge unless you have more time to play than a life to actually get high percentage in challenges.

And tbh i could of done 3-4 other challenges and made more in the time frame and it's much faster to kill a bunch of hostiles made more credits than to scan a system.

Now wouldn't it be cool if a wingman could id stuff with you and for you as there has to be more than me who don't care about having their name tag on systems, people have a such hard time sharing these days.

edit: just noticed they have broken the system search lol. One that should have my name on lol, SYNUEFE XC-J B29-1 never know some one else might of handed it in while exploring haha. One thing for sure i cannot search for it.

How long do you think I played to do those? I do have to work today and I did work yesterday. That's just me playing for a few hours. It's also less about having your name on it and more about doubling the worth of the scan.

Also, I have been fighting hostiles to make money, I wanted a change of pace, not a way to make faster money. If I wanted to make faster money, I would have kept on trading and doing black market stuff. :p

Sometimes it's more about having fun than making money. If I'm having fun, who gives a shit? It's a game. :)

I should also add that since I have a family that loves to interrupt me while I play games, exploring is nice because I can simply "Full stop," and walk away in solo this far out or if I'm traveling 300k, I can multi-task or walk away for a moment. It's more about flexibility since I can't always dedicate more than 15-20 minutes without getting interrupted. Children aren't conducive to playing video games until they get older.

Side note: I hated mining. Tried it and couldn't get into it.

was not trying to imply any thing just saying if you want the top 5% on the CC and have a life you cannot go around scanning every thing as scanning will give you extra credits but wont get you the top 5% as the planets scanned is not whats counted it's the systems found.

And to be honest the bonuses are not that good really, but yes it's what ever your in to at the time to make it fun is what it's all about for many of us.

I did some mining when I was playing, but haven't for a few months now. Have they introduced the mining probes yet?

I know. That's just not my goal. I also don't scan systems where it's not worth it, like when planets are too far apart.

Just collection limpets AFAICT. It seemed like a lot of work for not a whole lot of gain while being rather boring and not being able to multi-task all at the same time.

Just came across a pretty big system. Probably one of the bigger ones I've come across.
2015-07-17_00003.jpg

Also, just to add. I learned that certain types of planets offer more money for being discovered and scanned than others. For example, icy planets tend to be worth not that much where class 2 gas giants are worth over 10x more. The more "valuable" a planet is or the more dangerous (hotter) a star is, the more the scan is worth from my initial observations and research. It will be interesting to see how much I pull in when I decide to go back to civilization.

Side note: I finally convinced myself to get an interim GPU while I wait to see what Pascal brings to the table. After a lot of thinking I ended up getting a R9 390. I just some level of justification for it that doesn't belong in this thread but, just to keep it simple, the 8GB is in case Pascal is a disappointment, and a second 390 ends up being the best upgrade in the future so it's looking forward. Needless to say that ED will be running smooth (and anti-aliased which it currently isn't,) in the near future. I just need to wait for the GPU and an active DP->DVI adapter to come in the mail.

So I returned to civilization and made 4m credits from just turning in scans. It seems that new discoveries give you a 50% bonus on the planet's detailed scan value. I'm also now 96% into Trailblazer.

It's worth noting that once I got within 800LY my return target that I started seeing names on a lot of systems, so it's worth keeping in mind that if you want to "be the first" that you'll want to go something like 1000LY out which is where the jump distance of the Asp comes in nice.

I should note that I started by not knowing exactly what I was doing, so I was randomly jumping to systems. Once I started going to just F, G, and K type starts the amount I was significantly higher because I started running into a lot more metal rich, gas giants, and water worlds. Almost 10 pages of scans-ish and I only found 1 Earth-like, but it was worth almost 100k after the discovery bonus.

I can't wait for the new graphics card so I can turn everything up again and EF in Eyefinity could be fun. :p

So I got the R9 390 and ED runs smooth as butter with graphics cranked up. MSI afterburner is hard to read because of how GPU usage fluxuates. The GPU clock also is changing so I suspect that is just boost.

So! #1: Multi monitor isn't bad unless you're dragging something. Active 2D work will clock memory up to 1.5Ghz (6Ghz effective,) then back down to 300Mhz (1.2Ghz effective,) when nothing is going on. If the 390 adjusted usage based on need, idle usage for multi-monitor should be optimal. Downclocking memory until something happens that actually needs it. That sounds incredibly efficient to me. Under load I'm using about the same as the 6870s in CFX but, on average I would say I'm using 40-50 watts less on idle with the 390.

People shouldn't bash this card, it's f**king nice for the price. Granted, I came from 6870s. :p

FWIW: I'm using 1.8GB of VRAM in ED with the graphics maxed. It's a smooth 60FPS and runs like a dream. Damn nice video card if you ask me.

This is why having 3 displays is awesome. What I haven't does is try ED in Eyefinity. Might not be perfect but lets give it a go! Brb while I have some fun. :)

Edit:

No joke, it's playable in eyefinity. What even blows my mind more is that I can still have AA! This is either a really nice card, or I've had a little too much to drink. :)

So I'm mixed on the new expansion. On one hand planetary exploration sounds cooler than cool, but on the other hand they are charging a nearly new game price for what should be treated as an expansion pack at best IMO. Any comments?

I'm not, sun don't shine were they can stick that, i will just wait it out until there is a massive sale. They still not added more coop tot he game which is a real shame.

xpac 2 we added aliens for only $50.

I believe they plan to release a bunch of them over time.
