Good morning TPU, and what are we offended by today? /s <--I'll be using this alot, I assume...
I have sat and watched all of this devolve into chimps flinging poo.
I will not directly quote anyone, but if this post feels like its pointed at you, it likely is.
I myself have kept a very nebulous role here at TPU for many reasons, which is why I have lurked here under various pseudonym for the better part of a decade and a half.
Point One:
TPU is a business, and advertisements bring in money, some serious money at that. For those of you who think that the paltry sum coming from Patreon is enough to operate this, may want to revisit basic economics classes. also please point me to that hosting service that would charge such an insignificant sum... i will literally buy them out. <--- Yes, i am using literally properly in this case.
Sidebar:
You are free to consume content or join a community anywhere you please, but as I stated above, I have been around the industry for quite a long time (since the 80's/90s). This is one of the most open and forgiving forums on the web, and i would love to see you rail on another forum/namesake and still be there in the morning. W1zz is an awesome dude and a personal friend over the past decade+ of my life.
Just because you pay to "support" the site does not mean you man the helm, the business still needs to run; The same way you can be a Patreon to a Tech Tuber, and I guarantee they will not let you flip tables and try to control their content.
Point Two:
Nicehash, is NOT in any way shape or form the reason for the GPU shortage. If you wanna know the truth about how mining is hurting the industry you really need to look at the larger distributed pools of Etherium mining/miners this is where the GPUs are most efficient and most are applied related to mining. Nicehash's most profitable algo is Etherium, but miners only make 90% of what they would make mining for a distributed pool such as Ethermine/Nanopool/etc.
Sidebar:
Now that you know Nicehash is not the culprit for making GPUs scarce (we will dig into that shortly), but whats your excuse for the farce outrage? I am sure many of you will glance past logic due to your need to take up pitchforks, but I digress.
Point Three:
For those of you making vast assumptions about the GPU shortage should really educate yourselves on the global economy of scale especially related to silicon. It is not just GPU availability that is suffering, it is lack of availability across the board which is impacting GPUs. Im sure some of you have heard, at least I hope, that vehicle (yes cars) production is on hold in many ways due to lack of availability of the silicon based parts they need for the vehicles. Mind you that is just one part of a very convoluted supply chain. But you also have on top of this increased reliance on silicon for everything from new phones coming out every damn year, to smart watches, digital cameras, and virtually anything else with the ability to work electronically. Add to this that we all have seen how the pandemic which has impacted several things globally and foundries are not agnostic to this effect as well.
Sidebar:
Damn, People must be using their cars, phones and even smart thermostats for mining on nicehash as well
/s
P.S.:
I know this will further likely inflame many of you who want so badly to hold up these pitchforks and have a reason to be offended. However im not here to make your feels get better, im here to provide logic and truth to the discussion.
P.S. Sidebar:
Please find something better to do with your time, being offended by an advert is silly and nonsensical.
If you want someone/something to be mad at, lets all pick up pitchforks against the robo dialers offering me vehicle warranty 3+ times a day.
For those of you who took the time to read the information I am offering, thank you and I hope it helped broaden your understanding of what is happening presently in the marketplace. If you are still pissy about the advert, and TPU offering you a community free of charge, well I got nothing for ya...
Be well.
