Seems to me w1zzard is trying pretty hard to work those few adds on the home page around add blockers

And that is his right. He is the site owner.

So maybe advertisers are now insisting on it and is why things are going as it is atm.

Or it's just a technical problem that needs to be worked out.

There is nothing nefarious going on. W1zzard's selection of ads are easily the least offensive on the net. Anyone who has a problem with them is picking nits and really needs to be a bit more chill.

Ad block is doing the same no telling for how long some others have said for months not sure anyone would be happy dealing with this that long so attitudes are on lol

That's an idea, move the image server to the primary domain(techpowerup.com).

Won't work. tpucdn.com is served by cloudflare's cdn, so images come to you from like 100 km away, and not from NYC where our servers are. Also the domain is cookie-free which saves a few hundred bytes for every request

Putting techpowerup.com behind cloudflare doesn't work due to the highly dynamic nature of our site.

I got that. But TPU can't be the only site that uses different hosting for main and forums. Why is it the only one affected? What's the difference? (I know, not helpful, just an engineer's mind going into diagnosis mode)

They can't figure out how to block our ads, so they make their filters wider and wider, blocking a lot of legitimate content in the process

Niice. The sad part is, I'm whitelisting TPU, but I was affected when surfing using Vivaldi where I had no blockers installed - default behavior, the worst kind And I kinda like that browser, I may have to raise the issue over there.

Actually this whole "broken" thing seems to be working in our favor. With the site being SO broken, a lot of people are whitelisting TPU, Patreon subs are also up significantly in the last days.

Probably a side effect of keeping ads in check: if you don't annoy people enough, they won't bother whitelisting.

So in other words, they are being blatant a-holes!

Hi, hourly/daily reader but infrequent poster - please be kind

I can't access forums on my andriod phone - just blank, used to work, then stopped about 2 or 3 days ago (latest Firefox, android 11). Not sure i have any adblock on android (is it even possible?) - I hate the system and don't tweak much at all. Could this be related to this uBlock shenanigans?

Hi guys, thanks for the nudge - I looked at my Firefox and I had uBlock/privacy badger/others installed, dont remember doing it but that kind of thing is sort of automatic. Anyhoo disabled uBlock and all good, phew, thought this was going to be an ordeal.

So on my phone (Xiaomi F2 pro) with latest firefox and uBlock I get squat other than the header - not no ads but no website at all! Without uBlock everything is peachy. The internet got fucked by adverts, just like everywhere else.

I'm leaving blocking off TPU, feel guilty I don't Patreon but that's a bit weird for us old-timers, maybe soon.

It should be noted, you want to whitelist TPU not disable your adblocker entirely.

This isn't really a technical issue, but just a suggestion I think might be helpful.

Where it says Recent Discussions and then the other side says Recent Headlines. It would be nice if the Recent Headlines was a link I could click on to take me quickly to the forum post with all the recent headlines, instead of having to scroll all the way down and search for it in the main forum. Sometimes, I remember a news article I thought was interesting and want to go back to but can't remember the name of, so I do that sometimes, going over older headlines until I find it.

It just would make it easier if where it said Recent Headlines at the top of the main forum page I could just click that and it takes me there directly.

Again, not a big deal if you don't want to bother with that or don't agree with it, just throwing it out there. @W1zzard If I am the only one who you think would use this feature, do not bother yourself, lol just throwing it out there is all.
