Too easy. Given all the other stuff that was missing or just plain unfinished, I think its a weak excuse to hide that more so than trying to evoke a specific idea of society. Its easy, right? 'The world is fucked up and boring, enjoy all the content we didnt make'... mhm. Sure. Also... purposelessness isn't exactly what is driving V or his arch enemies, you even get to choose on it... so where does that fit in?
V actually admits multiple times that he's got no goal and the only thing that motivates him is his fear of dying soon.
Spoiler:
The best scene that comes to mind is at Clouds, when you're investigating Evelyn's disappearance. When you're talking to the joytoy about your feelings, you have the speech option to say how lonely you are.

And even more on that philosophy... if there is no purpose, why would people be in conflict? Why would they not aspire to find purpose? Those are all angles to create content on. Even todays' modern society is full of purpose, however silly, backwards or insignificant it might be. Dunno... the theory just doesn't work for me.
People trying to find purpose in life is a noble notion, but it doesn't apply to most of us. If I look around at work (I work at a fairly large company), I mostly see people trying to feed their families and make ends meet. People without families are more interested in car upgrades and the latest iPhone. That's not purpose. That's apathy. But if it doesn't work for you in the game, I totally understand. :)

Alright, then I guess we have a different take on what immersion in a game can be all about :) Maybe the difference in AC is that even if the position is fixed (it certainly isn't for all the examples I've mentioned there) is that there is no icon guiding you there, saying 'do this thing'. You're right about the gang fights in CBP btw. Forgot about them. But still. Icons. Icons. Icons. If they're not on the map, they're on screen.
That's true. Gang fights would be a lot more interesting if you didn't get pointers on them on the map.

Its for most of the same reasons I came to enjoy Baldur's Gate 2's city as well. Even just the background noise of each area. The attention to detail. And yes, the random conversations that aren't quite so random when you walk by them the hundreth time. They still do the work.
I know it's a cardinal sin, but I've never played it. :D My favourite cities/scenery are found in The Witcher series. Even the first one. It was a relatively low-budget game with lots of reused assets, but they still managed to create atmosphere with the arrangements, the music and the overall graphic design.

As for qualifying useful or interesting... again, different take on immersion I think. Did you actually stop to listen and interpret what was spoken? And how many tongue in cheek stuff there was, how in fact the whole game is one big middle finger to religious zealotry all over the place? How people realise they're being used by it? Etc. Its really on another level, and one of Ubisoft's strongest statements ever. And note that the big bad organization you're stuck with has direct ties (even an actual level) and exists in recent days, while even from the first moment they smell power, the failure of Man shines through, in greed and everything else the deity they serve would forbid them.
I give you that too. Again, AC1 is a great game in many aspects. :) Immersion in city life is just not one of them for me.

Haha interesting take on purpose. I did say, however insignificant it might be - you call it apathy. But I think that is a judgment on another's purpose. Apathy is what might describe best the world of Night City if you take purpose out of the equation. But purpose can indeed be a simple as feeding a family, loving them, and raising a child. Purpose can also be ambition to achieve goals, it doesn't mean you're achieving them all the time.

As for V and his loneliness - and Let's get Back on Topic with that ;) - I think that statement is exactly the criticism Cyberpunk has on todays' society and its own: you can have all the things, but you'll still be a lonely materialist sucker for it who effectively has nothing. Also, his buddy died early on in the game. And let's move on to the ending sequences of the game with that thought. You get a very, very meaningful choice in front of you, don't you? One that could be defined as purpose. And even prior to that, you're on an actual soul search for your purpose, its a choice you have to make. Johnny talks about it a lot too.

Perhaps another take on purpose, especially for V, could have been 'there is only limited time'. Its another theme around him, it just depends on your interpretation. Its the absence of enough time that gives V his purpose, basically.

Trying to find a job that pays enough to support your family, or to cut down on your own expenses so that your family can have a better life is purpose. Or to earn enough to support your hobby that makes you feel at peace. Happiness (yours and/or that of your family) in any form is purpose. Working overtime in a job your don't like just to have money for food is not. But that's just my opinion, I guess. :)

Exactly my point! :) The world gives you nothing - all you need is within you. Though it is really hard to materialise a message like this in a video game in a way that people also find entertaining. That's why I don't judge CDPR on the game's flaws, but try to focus on the bigger picture instead.

That's an interesting take too. I like it. :)

The way we're discussing the potential message of the game is proof that CP77 isn't as bad as people find it fashionable to think. I mean, when do people discuss the theme and morals in the latest CoD or BF?

Absolutely! But this is really the story 'mode' we're discussing - my point with AC was how the world could do a better job to tie in with that story. CBP definitely did convey some sense of theme to me too, that the world can absolutely do. But it didn't bleed over into gameplay. There are no places in the city that really draw you in to just stand there, look around and see what might happen, and the events that are there fail to really become an immersive quality too. Some of them are borderline stupid - as in whole squads of NPCs just standing in places looking tough for no reason.

That line was direct from the game devs, the only reason they launched the game unfinished was fear of death from the corporate overlords :p

Well here's a little something cool

Minus points not having a 60FPS video. It is inexcusable when coils are involved. Considering it is Cyberpunk and 60FPS may naturally come as a hard target, but not this time.

How's the game with the latest patch? I'm interested in picking it up. Don't mind visual bugs and glitches but stuff like frequent crashes and bugs making me reload or corrupting saves would make me rage lol.

I want to finish all the main stories in this game, however, after reading some of the endings, from the worst ending to the best ending, how come it all seems to suggest that the main hero, V, will still die prematurely, making me feel bad and hesitating to finish this rpg game.......

Not necessarily. My V didn't die at the end.

The thing that annoyed me, though, is that I couldn't do 2 side missions because their level requirement was too high. After completing the main quest, you're "transported" back to the point in time before you started the final mission, and so is your character progress. Meaning, I still can't finish those two side quests unless I grind, which I won't.

I got the most shitty ending fast. Just as I did with Witcher I will not replay it again till the first big DLC hits, and then maybe again. There is no need to hurry really.

What is still unclear to me is how much your ending is based on the way you played the whole game vs. your choices during the final mission.

What is still unclear to me is how much your ending is based on the way you played the whole game vs. your choices during the final mission.
Well, just do it fast, just the main quests, don't get the scene in junkyard, well where afterward you get the 911, and then some things depending affairs with girls, Panam isn't my cup of tea

I got the most shitty ending fast. Just as I did with Witcher I will not replay it again till the first big DLC hits, and then maybe again. There is no need to hurry really.

the timeline is always moving away from us, so you may have to wait a while, like a lot that's what i mean. I also got the shitty ending in 1st play, and it's worth it to at try the others. My opinion anyway

How's the game with the latest patch? I'm interested in picking it up. Don't mind visual bugs and glitches but stuff like frequent crashes and bugs making me reload or corrupting saves would make me rage lol.
Bugwise there aren't many problems, but don't expect too much from the story. The game is still disappointing. :(

I still saw a lot of bugs in the campaign when i last played last month.
I sticked to the campaign this time. I imagined that's where they would have worked first and hardest but now not even that. It wasn't as bad as at launch that's right.

It still needs a lot of work done on surface collision as I'm still finding stuff I should be able to pick up but can't because it's stuck in whatever surface it's on
