A factor of 2 (or more) efficiency and longer lifetime...

Me want!

You probably won't get that same efficiency even if tou manage to get your hands on that bulb.

E.g. Dubai mains voltage is 230V@50Hz vs. US mains voltage is 120V@60Hz

Going to fall at two different points on the efficiency curve. Just looking at the operating voltage the lamp when plugged in at the same wattage will draw less current less frequently (peaks).

Seems like a strips of LEDs inside a bulb?
I really doubt the efficiency since they seem to be comparing it to conventional light bulbs instead of other LED products

Because 'muricans don't care about energy waste. (I'll show myself out)
Please do because that's NOT true of all here.
I went to the trouble and expense of changing all incandesant bulbs here to LED and glad I did. I even have a lamp that only uses 3W yet is good enough to illuminate the room where I use my computer - Been using it for the past few years now and even bought extras in case this one goes out.
Didn't matter to me if it was an indoor or outdoor light, they all got changed.
Installed an LED strip fixture out in the shack not long ago and I'm also glad I did it - PLENTY of light for less than half of what power it was using before.

I compared against normal LED bulbs; 2 - 3 times more efficient.

I went the whole hog; first changing to CFLs and then LEDs.

I really prefer the warm white over daylight.

Considering how much it cut the powerbill for me, I'm more than glad I went with it.
At first these lights weren't living up to the "Long-life" expectation because they were failing everytime I turned around but as of late it's gotten alot better.

I hated early LED lights because of the cold light, but I have a standing light and ceiling light now that are both great, with warm color like old lamps.

I got a stack cheap knowing that they would not last long, but turns out I was wrong and not one has failed so far.

But now I want these ultra-efficient units.

The warm ones are real nice.

Probably good considering your 94+"s of screens use more energy than most peoples light fixtures.

I didn't even know these existed... very interesting. I wonder if they have as long a lifespan as regular LED bulbs? If they do, then it doesn't make sense, these should be the only ones made imo.

Remember the swirly "Ice Cream" bulbs?
I have a pair of those that still work in my bedroom lamps.

I don't use all monitors at once, when I sit at the pc the TV is off. :p My monitors use about as much energy as a old bulb.

wow... that is a shame these are not being mass produced like other LED bulbs... that was the whole point of going LED to begin with in such a rapid period of time, was in the name of efficiency for the greater whole...

this really needs to be done again, except with these... every little bit helps, as Koko the Gorilla would have said.

I wonder how the 220V version performs at 110V; of course I would prefer one designed for 110V.

Unfortunately, the email dubailamp@philips.com no longer seems to work

I like the LED bulbs and I prefer the daylight ones, but a couple of spots we use the soft white just because they work better for the location they're in. Recently I had one LED bulb (it was a correct bulb that was rated for the light fixture it was in and the bulb was maybe 3 months old) start smoking. My daughter came running out of her room saying, "Dad! Dad! My light bulb is smoking! It's smoking! Dad!"

I meet her at the bottom of the steps and I ask her, "If the light bulb is smoking....why didn't you turn the light off?" as I see the light is still on in her room. I got a, "I didn't think about it." response. I went into her room and sure enough one of the LED bulbs had a little white colored smoke coming out of it. The bulb was still on and lit, but it was smoking. I turned the lights off and the LED bulb that was smoking was too hot to touch. I had to remove it with a towel and it smelled awful.

I never had a light bulb start smoking before. I've had CFL bulbs fail numerous times and of course incandescent bulbs fail (get that pop sound when you flip the light on and the filament has failed) but this was the first time I had a bulb start smoking.

Well well well, if it's not one of my favourite videos from clive.

Why can't we get them? Phoebus cartel's legacy, not in the sense of "there's a conspiracy made and The Rothschild doesn't wants us to have better tech" but as in, if you made a bulb that can last for say 25 years, you'd run out of people you can sell bulbs to at certain point until it's not profitable anymore to keep manufacturing them, even if you could have a contract with ALL construction companies and contractors in a country as big as the US the amount of bulbs you'd sell wouldn't be enough to keep your company afloat.

The typical incandescent bulb is made to last no more than 2 years by using an extremely thin filament, CFLs meaning the tube itself can last for more than that, but there's a trick, the electronics on them will degrade faster due to overheating -again, no conspiracy- by people unknowingly installing them incorrectly, most houses around the world have ceiling lamp holders, while they're good for incandescent bulbs they're terrible for CFLs as the components in them will eventually overheat due to physics, heat rises, that's bad. I'd say a spiral type CFL is really similar to a nernst on how it behaves (of course the internals are completely different) so they should be placed "upside down" (glass facing up) so that the heat FROM the ballast and transistors heat up the glass -therefore the gas- providing better heat dissipation and light. Unfortunately this technology has been bashed so much for their supposedly short life that manufacturers came up with LED bulbs.

About LEDs we have the surface mounted LED models with the plastic diffuser on top that are usually cheaper and similar to CFLs suffering from the same overheating issue, and the incandescent copycats with a "filament" inside, these generate a bit less heat and most don't feature a capacitor. The LED overvolting in order to get more lumens is indeed an issue so unless you mod a bulb or make your own there's no way around it.
Something that most people don't know is that getting DC LED bulbs is better, why? there's only a filter cap inside them, the conversion is made by a power supply that's far away from the bulb itself so the LEDs will work at a lower temperature, there are plenty out there that work with 48V and all you gotta do is adapt the holder or lamp to work with DC, oh and make sure you don't screw in a DC bulb into an AC holder, that's a nice way to burn money.
Energy saving is a nice bonus, we have some really old chandeliers at home and the big one alone could eat up over 1300W with incandescent bulbs, it's 144 now (8W per bulb) so almost a 90% reduction, what I like about the glass bulb LEDs is that they nailed the right colour tone, it's the same as an incandescent, can't say the same about CFLs, tubes or plastic dome LEDs.

I've been experimenting with LED filament, I have a whole box of it, the only downside is that, of course, I can't blow the glass myself so... that's a problem, I don't have a bulb factory. If I could do it myself it'd look like one of the early carbon based filament bulbs with the nipple at the top, that'd be nice for sure.

That's a crazy story, hopefully won't happen to anyone else.
