IF you look closely at the pics of the MERC 310 RX 7900 XT, you'd find that it has only 2x 8pin, place where the 3rd 8pin connector's supposed to be is empty. As for the pic of the Red Devil RX 7900 XT at newegg, I think they had used pics of the RX 7900 XTX instead. The PowerColor site itself states that the Red Devil RX 7900 XT has two 8pin PCIe power connectors.
I meant to copy the link for Taichi, not XFX - https://www.newegg.com/asrock-radeo...c-20go/p/N82E16814930082?Item=N82E16814930082

The spec said 3x8 pins - https://www.asrock.com/Graphics-Card/AMD/Radeon RX 7900 XT Taichi 20GB OC/index.asp

I currently have one RTX 3080 and 3070 and use both but the 7900 XTX can be purchased if I need it. But I don't need it.

I don't think so. Now is still a very bad moment for buying a new GFX. Between two generations and prices still fluctuating up and down...

Radeon RX 7900 XTX - 1299.00
Radeon RX 7900 XT - 1049.00

7900 XT is only 10% faster than 6950 XT, while costing whole lot more - 859 vs 1049 euros in Germany.
Prices need to normalise further but AMD needs to launch the new generation Navi 32 / Navi 33 aka 7800 / 7700 / 7600.

In 2 weeks time?

Some announcements are expected at CES in January.

Radeon RX 6950 XT - 859.00
Radeon RX 6900 XT - 829.00
Radeon RX 6800 XT - 694.95
Radeon RX 6800 - 524.38

Radeon RX 6750 XT - 439.00
Radeon RX 6700 XT - 399.00

Radeon RX 6600 XT - 347.15 (this is still a very bad value considering the newer 6650 is cheaper)

Radeon RX 6650 XT - 314.18
Radeon RX 6600 - 269.00

Radeon RX 6500 XT - 169.32
Radeon RX 6400 - 135.51

Maybe in 2-3 years as a second hand one. Just got a 6700 XT and even this felt expensive.

Same here. Just got a 6750 XT about a month ago for a bit over 400 quid. This is as much as I'm willing to spend on a graphics card. No FPS number or shiny RT effect can convince me otherwise.

Exactly. RT isn't that groundbreaking, I'll play happily at 4K with this card.

The thing is that the replacement 7700/7800, whatever it is called, is coming soon.
You got your cards too late in the product lifecycle.

I disagree. We got our cards during their highest discount (so far). There's still no news on 7700/7800 launch dates, and there probably won't be for a couple of months - a time we can spend gaming.

No need to upgrade and RDNA3 is not efficient enough. If I had to replace my current GPU I would look for a last gen replacement or hope for price cuts by nVIDIA (I am not willing to pay more than 700-800 bucks for a xx80-class card).

Agreed - the 6700xt hellhound is going for around $300 here. $/FPS at 1440P this card cant be touched, runs everything. Used two of them in builds so far and everyone is happy as a clam.

I wonder when will AMD make us happy with a news along the line - we make a new graphics card for you - it is very fast and yet we managed to keep it very efficient with only 200 watt TDP, but its performance is comparable to our competitor's 500 watt monsters?

It is AMD that is using much more power. On paper Ada looks very power hungry but in reality it's much more efficient than RDNA3 so far. RDNA3 is more or less a revival of what AMD has done with Vega and that's bad. I really would have liked AMD to be competitive in all aspects, but so far the only thing speaking for RDNA3 is it's price - if you are willing to ignore everything else. Don't get me wrong, I do not like nVIDIAs behavior lately but currently it looks like the GPU market is heading in the direction the CPU market was before Zen. An undisputed market leader will not behave like Spiderman after his uncle told him some wise words.^^

Imo, a 35% increase in performance with no increase in power consumption and price compared to last gen is pretty nice. It's not good enough to make top dogs at Nvidia wet their beds at night, but good enough to stay afloat like they have been. It's their first chiplet design, that's where most of their efforts probably went, kind of the same way Zen 4 is just a higher clocked node shrink of Zen 3 on a different socket.

You are right, compared to RDNA2 RDNA3 is an improvement. The chiplet-design is innovative, no doubt. If we were living in a world without alternatives it could have been a great product...

...but - as you said yourself - there is no need to upgrade if you are already on a last gen GPU and if you need a replacement it's still possible to get last gen GPUs at a now reasonable prices. Performance wise last gen still is also fast enough for almost all users and all use cases. In future - with the disappearance of new last gen GPUs this might change but there will also be a very compelling second-hand market for RTX 3000 and RDNA2. Maybe even intel will join the fight... we'll see.

I would be willilng to upgrade for a better ray tracing experience at 1440P, but not at these prices. I am content with my RX 6800 for mixed usage light RT and ultra/high for games without RT. None of the current gen prices look appealing. If I had to upgrade right now, with what I would value as improvements, I would probably choose a 3090/Ti on used market TBH

It is ok if you are happy.
Just saying that there is another approach. In January at CES 2023 AMD will present the new generation and later I will also be gaming. The thing is that the following years I will be gaming with my RX 7800 XT while you will be using your older RX 6700 XT.
If it's fine for you, it's fine for me, too ;)

As long as it does at least 40 FPS in every game at 1080p, I'm more than happy. :)

If not, It's never too late to sell it and buy something else.

I hope there will be some compelling entry-level and midrange options in that future, as they would be enough for the vast majority of people, but looking at where the whole market is going, I have my fears.

Maybe it is time to switch to 2160p gaming, since this card can comfortably run it, even if you need to change a setting or two down.

Nah, I would need to upgrade my PC sooner to play newer games. I'd rather be comfortable as long as possible, even if I do end up upgrading eventually. Who knows where the GPU market will be in 2-4 years time.

It's not a bad suggestion, though - it's just not for me at the moment.

The only model from the RDNA3 lineup I'm interested in is Navi 32, aka the one with 60/64 CUs and 16 gigs of vram.
If that offers meaningful increase in performance relative to my current 6700XT I'll be getting it towards the end of 2023 when the prices are likely to slide down some and I'll probably get a 5800X3D to go along with it.
And if not I'll be doing a completely new config once the Zen5/RDNA4 parts roll in.

In a French shop the Gigabyte RX 7900 XT is 70 € cheaper than the XTX one (same model), 1130 € vs 1200 €
So ... if i should choose, i'll go for the XTX !

This is exactly the card I have, got for for $330 a couple three or so months back. I don't see any reason to have more than this, but then I've always bought cards right at the middle of the pack performance wise and held them for 2-3 years.

I will say, AMD drivers are not as good as Nvidia. Nothing major, but after years of zero problems with Nvidia today I suddenly got this. Guess I'll be turning off automatic updates once I fix it :
