Are you creeping his post in other threads because in the actual post he made in this review he doesn't state a price.

Also the 7700X has been 330 ish since last year so if he did pay $400 without tax he's not in the US which means the 7800X3D might also be more expensive.
Time out...lets dial this back a bit. I'm seriously not sure why all the hostility. The 7700X is a damn capable CPU - fact. The poster said he bought a 7700X last week in this thread - fact. Newegg.com lists the 7700X for $395.

I simply went to Newegg and looked up the price where you linked the 7700. Its just not a $120 dealt that you claimed. If you can get the 7700X for a difference of $120, I would go with the 7700X too! My point here is from Newegg, it shows for $395 USD.

So can we chill a bit as everything doesn't have to come with the needless rage.

Hold on, I went to Microcenter and they have an outstanding combo for the 7700X.

Microcenter has the following:

7700X by itself for $389.98 - https://www.microcenter.com/product...-8-core-boxed-processor-heatsink-not-included

OR

7700X and 32GB of DDR-5 6000 for $349.99 - https://www.microcenter.com/product...x5-32gb-ddr5-6000-dual-channel,-cpu-ram-combo

If he got something like this, its freaking steal!

Good to know, really bad though you had to reinstall whole Windows to get the 7800X3D to work correctly.

Didnt know you could go from an Intel system to an AMD system, without reinstalling Windows!
You can't always expect flawless transition to new HW but Windows should at least be able to warn the user that the chipset and CPU drivers haven't been installed properly.

Unless AMD is intentionally holding back, these CPUs should be widely available for plenty of reasons. First, the performance increase is a lot less impressive than 5800X3D at its time. Secondly, demand for desktop CPUs is at a 30-year low due to an economic downturn, rising energy costs and rampant inflation in many countries across the globe. Thirdly, AM5 is still a relatively new platform. The 5800X3D was a great upgrade at the end of AM4's lifetime. There was a huge install base to potentially suck up these CPUs. That is not even remotely the case with AM5. As stated before, hardware sales have been exceptionally slow ever since the war in Ukraine started. Demand is/was very low.

There is definitely going to be a shortage in the first few days as with any and every hardware launch but unless AMD is intentionally trickling supply into the market then I'd expect wide availability towards the latter half of April easily.
Yes, my thoughts exactly!

Alright lads! W1zz has done it! I am buying 7800x3d!!! I was surprised to see it even handily beat out 7900x3d in this game. 7800x3d is def the winner of this CPU gen, and I would go as far as to say its CPU king this generation. It's even giving Intel a run for its money in age of empires 4 and spider man

yep, I am buying 7800x3d day 1. this is my stop. and I might just go yolo and get me that sapphire nitro 7900 xtx that is on sale for $1029 locally. my Ultima rig is almost complete!!!!!!!!!! :rockout::rockout:

Got the 7700x just over a week ago for 4K gaming. No regrets.
Same here since black Friday was going to upgrade to this but the delta gain at 4k doesn't seem worth the jump especially at all core oc at 5.65 ghz with noctua d15.
By adding $47 today you can get

Ryzen 7 7700X, MSI B650-P Pro WiFi, G.Skill Flare X5 Series 32GB DDR5-6000 Kit, Computer Build Combo
$749.96 SAVE $253.30
$496.66 at microcenter before 5% membership discount

I was personally hoping that at 4k the 0.1% lows were better than this.

I'm pretty sure I heard you cannot do statistics with one example;). This is why they call it "anecdote".
Also I’m glad technology is getting so different (better) that infinite legacy backwards compatibility is starting to fray. How the hell do we get more performance if we constantly shackle ourselves to incrementalism for the sake of Windows upgrades?

The 7700X was going for $340 for a long time. I purchased it at that price back in December. Perhaps recently the price has gone up. Just wait a few days.

I'm really surprised by a few edge case results. Elden Ring, for example. The 7950x3d, in it's reviews a month ago, significantly outperformed the "simulated" 7800x3d - that kinda sold me also on the notion that 7950x3d will still be better in a few very thread heavy games, and not worse than the 7800x3d in the rest.

But in this review the 7800 is outperforming the 7950 in Elden Ring... although I notice that the FPS result for the 7950 matches exactly the review from a month ago. Was a fresh test not run for the 7950? Or it just exactly matched down to the tenth of a fps?
I'd really like to see more investigation into this. There's no fundamental reason the 7950x3d should be slower than the 7800x3d, especially as much slower (in games) as this review is showing. Something very strange is going on.

There are two limiting factors that affect the 7950x3d over the 7800x3d. First, they have the same power limit of 120W, while the 7950x3d has to share that amongst 16 cores instead of just 8. Second, AMD's software hack to address scheduling for the heterogeneous cores.

The simulation test disabling the non-vcache ccd should have addressed both of these, sharing power only on the 8 enabled cores and no need for AMD's hack. If either of the above were causing the performance problem (and the scheduling hack is highly suspect), this should have brought the 7950x3d to parity with the 7800x3d (higher really, since it can boost 200MHz higher). Why the results with the real 7800x3d are so different is a mystery. (One thing I wonder is if the AMD driver bug mentioned in this article affected the simulation testing as well.)

I'm not asking for an entire re-review of the simulation, but I'd like to see some experimentation with the games that show the most extreme differences where the 7800x3d comes out ahead of the 7950x3d. A clean windows install with none of AMD's software nonsense, and two situations: 1) Same as before, non-vcache CCD disabled, 2) both CCDs enabled, but use Process Lasso or similar to lock all processes (or just game processes) to the vcache cores.

This data would help me decide whether I keep the 7950x3d I just managed to obtain today, or return it for a 7800x3d. None of the current spate of reviews help me answer this as they are all focused on the stock situation using AMD's bad software. If a little bit of tweaking on my end (Process Lasso, etc) can truly give me the best of both worlds, I'd rather keep the 7950x3d as I do occasionally have productivity tasks that will benefit from 16 cores. But difference shown in this review is correct, and not due to AMD software inadequacies, I'm not willing to sacrifice that much gaming performance.

So the gaming performance is on par with 7950x model. If you live near Microcenter 7950x are priced at $550 USD. Official MSRP for 5800x3D is $450. That $100 may/may not be worth it for more core count for your preferred applications.

Dear techpowerup,

It is 2023. It is time to up your game and include frame time data of some kind or 0.1% lows. I do not care about average FPS.
Are you trolling? he has average and lows, you want .1% for a CPU???

Isn't that what you are supposed to do when you get a new CPU architecture?

This used to be the case. It also used to be the case that you wanted to image your PC off and on because of Windows OS rot but it hasn't been the case for years. Now you just upgrade the hardware. Even OS upgrades are simply in place upgrades. One of the boxes I have went from a 7700k z77 to a 10850k z490 with of course the complete board and GPU swap with no issues and then moved to Windows 11. Stuff is much better about this now.

Looks like problem with locked driver during install and also after reboot during driver replacement. And because old driver after reboot reports that device is working properly there is nothing to warn about in OS. Result will be only in setup log. It will be resolved with new driver installer from AMD. It is installer bug.

I already decided I am buying one. Better get something decent before WW3 breaks out, and its looking more and more like that day is coming. While the rest of the world loses its shit, I am going to be chill as fuck gaming :toast:

there is a minimum FPS page, it is seperate from the main avg fps pages.

Yeah, between CPUs, mobos and video cards I have only upgraded like a dozen times. Using both Linux and Windows and never performing a clean install (except when I switched Linux distro).
But you go ahead and count that as "one example" if that gives you a warm feeling.

I'm quite sure you can thoroughly remove this driver manually (along with its likely still present overlay scheme and/or ppm profile - resetting power scheme will change nothing).

Did you actually verify this driver was disabled (via device manage or sc or even pnputil ?

Not really Athalon 64 was also faster in productivity which is what really matters for mass sales, gaming is sort of a by thought. X3D is largely a curb stomp in an edge case, gaming, while being worse than not only intel but AMDs own offerings in everything else.

X3D is going to shine and show it's real teeth in the next generation of consoles.

I'm felling very stupid asking this, but what's exactly means PBO MAX if this CPU is not overclockable?

It's CO -30 all core?
