Talk about a selective quote...
It's a rhetorical technique called reductio ad absurdum, im showing you that you can't just say it's subjective. 4k looks objectively better than 1080p, right?

He said that DLSS Performance is equal to Native, therefore it follows that DLSS Quality > Native.
That's a separate point to the point about VRAM.
DLSS performance has similar image quality to native, and DLSS quality looks better, at the same texture settings.
DLSS quality mode with low-quality textures (which are used if your GPU doesn't have enough VRAM) looks much worse than native with high quality textures.

But you don't need low quality textures, 8gb can handle HIGH.

I can indeed, and i will again. It's subjective, and depends.

The fairly low video quality / res is what helps selling it as real. A sqeaky clean 4k presentation would have been alot less convincing, and appeared much more computer game'ish.

Medium, if you don't want to have any issues with textures loading in correctly.

You can't even say that. At the same pixel pitch and viewing distance, they'd look the same but for the 1080p display being 1/4 the size. Or say you've got a 4K display the same size as a >150ppi 1080 panel. Your pixel density (and thus hypothetical image quality) is higher, but it'll be hard to tell without sitting closer to the screen. Neither of those scenarios are realistic, but apparently we're going all reductio in here.

This really reminds me of the Empire Earth II intro. It's a game from 2005, but the intro cinematic looks hyper-realistic, and blew me away when I first saw it. They used poor lighting and a very low resolution to hide the imperfections.

No, that's not what they said at all.

In this video, Tim compared - among other things - DLSS Quality and DLSS Performance to native and fsr in Hogwarts. He said that DLSS Performance is equal to Native, therefore it follows that DLSS Quality > Native.

Whether DLSS is better than native or not has been contested and argued over dozens of pages in other posts, so let's not go there, please. As for me, I'll always consider it a subjective preference.

Yeah, that is indeed the way to sell realistic visuals in games - unless you actually scanned in the entire gameworld, like in battlefront 2015, which looks amazing at very high res due to this.

can we please stop comparing consoles & games to their PC counterparts

one built for PC game optimization, one is not
one is checker boarding its games in most cases the other is running them at native resolution in most cases
one is running them them at specific settings to lessen the hardware burden the other is running them at ultra settings to bring the GPU to a halt and overwhelm the ram
one has a decompression chip the other does not

and lastly one gets prioritized in terms of man power and money and one gets a far smaller budget for porting

i would say there is always a chance you get it right with so many combinations of software and hardware we have, but it seems most aren't pleased. I suffered this before with a gpu i won't mention, lots of us had insane amount of issues, some had none. It's PC.
They do have to account for, i wouldn't say everybody, but at least most of the buyers

Is it? So if I said textures on low look better than ultra therefore 8gb cards are fine, you can't say im wrong can you?

Game is unoptimized as hell if it needs 18GB of VRAM. Almost no GPU has that much except the (very, very) high end ones. I imagine its only at the highest settings though, which might just be some sort of "let's do this because we can" thing.

Well,, the game unlike some other amd sponsored ones actually have some really high quality textures if you pay attention up close. Like, really really high quality. Im not sure if it makes sense to require 18gb of vram, but at least the game looks nice, way better than your usual amd sponsored vram hog disaster (tlou,, im looking at you). This is 4k native screenshot from TLOU, textures are set to ultra. It freaking looks like a ps3 era game.....

Yeah, sure, show us..

The 12900k runs better than the 7800x 3d in this game, so please, go ahead.
There is way to compare Image quality directly, that's not a factual statement which can be proven with data. That is an opinion based on "HIS eyesight" alone.

VRAM usage started to grow and you cut off video. :p

Game delayed to achieve best possible version = development limbo.
Sorry she only had a few minutes to test it during her lunch break.

But your suspicions were right. When we tested again we saw VRAM usage creeping up. Like every time I sat down I saw it was adding another GB of VRAM so I kept making short videos.

By the seventh video, you can see VRAM usage reach over 13GB.

This is 1440p, FSR: Quality to scale to 4K. Everything else Ultra except AA I think I left that on low or medium.

Here's the play list and each video is about 30 seconds or so.

It's pretty smooth game play and looks fantastic, but maybe not so much on my ancient phone :D

This is because

A: Current Gen consoles have 16GB VRAM

B: Microsoft has a big push for DX12 to read directly from NVME, with direcstorage negating this "Soon"

It's probably loading in more and more as you progress and currently coded for the consoles to cull old data at a higher threshold, without an accurate way to read/estimate available VRAM for whatever reason
