But aren't you focused on your Deck, saying you don't game at your desktop that much for the time being?
yeah, overall this is true. I still play AAA games and FFXIV on PC though and 5800x3d was always my plan, great upgrade with almost no loss of money. Can't complain on my end.
next gen just has too many issues, so pretty happy with the way all this worked out. Also, this chip will take me to higher fps in several games, for example Starcraft 2 I play on a regular basis, like I will quit for a few months, come back, etc. SC2 loves x3d cache... I won't get a single dip in fps ever again... on my 5600 non-x, I would get dips that would ruin the immersion they were so big in large battles with lots of units on the screen... so the fact I will have that smooth factor is worth the $190ish upgrade tag to me. not just that game, but several of the games I play benefit from x3d cache.
also, when I play AAA titles on PC, I tend to do medium/high setting mixture, most benchmarks don't show this, but when you do that x3d cache goes fucking nuts and says nom nom nom. in God of War for example, benchmarks mostly show i will gain what 8 fps maybe? but thats on ultra/high settings. you go down to "original" in graphics setting with a 5800x3d, and the gains are nuts, even for a 6800 xt level card.
so yeah, pretty happy the way it all worked out really. got some great deals. still love my steam deck. solid combo.
@oxrufiioxo you were correct a week or two ago when you said I have a good setup having multiple outlets, i have the best of a few different worlds, not just a single high end system which for some reason i was focused on heavily for a long time (don't get me wrong, I'd still like a 7900 xtx if my 6800 xt sells, but honestly don't care at this point, its a good rig, been rock solid stable for me since day 1, which i can't say the same for when i tried 13600k (I had mobo issues, nothing wrong with the 13600k itself, Intel LAN specficially was giving me a massive headache disconnecting all the time, I'm glad I use realtek LAN now) and then i tried 7700x because microcenter was giving away free ram with it (but then the mobo for that had insane ear bleeding coil whine, and the ram at expo gave errors... even though the ram was QVL)... that's when i said ok, next gen just isn't there yet, got a refund, and here I am. glad it worked out this way, been really happy with the stability and smoothness of old gen so far. all my games have been super smooth, now that smoothness is only going to get better.
