What's your latest tech purchase?

i must have been more drunk then i thought.
i bought this strange size model for 62$ yesterday

just ordered a ryzen 5800x3d (it was my plan all along, but microcenter was out of stock, hence had to settle for my 5600 non-x)

shipped and sold by amazon 296 today, so I jumped on it. my irl buddy is buying my 5600 for 100, so only a 30 loss overall, not bad!

should be a solid rig that will last me a couple years more. if my 6800 xt doesn't sell, going to cancel my 7900 xtx plans. either way pretty happy with it all. :toast:

You are going to have that smile that compelling hardware brings to a PC Gamer when you install that,

But aren't you focused on your Deck, saying you don't game at your desktop that much for the time being?

Just cancel it, or send it back and order a 1/2GB..
Damn one day delivery services, and my other nvme is pcie x3. so i felt an inside pressure to stick it in my brand new 5800x3d.

yeah, overall this is true. I still play AAA games and FFXIV on PC though and 5800x3d was always my plan, great upgrade with almost no loss of money. Can't complain on my end.

next gen just has too many issues, so pretty happy with the way all this worked out. Also, this chip will take me to higher fps in several games, for example Starcraft 2 I play on a regular basis, like I will quit for a few months, come back, etc. SC2 loves x3d cache... I won't get a single dip in fps ever again... on my 5600 non-x, I would get dips that would ruin the immersion they were so big in large battles with lots of units on the screen... so the fact I will have that smooth factor is worth the $190ish upgrade tag to me. not just that game, but several of the games I play benefit from x3d cache.

also, when I play AAA titles on PC, I tend to do medium/high setting mixture, most benchmarks don't show this, but when you do that x3d cache goes fucking nuts and says nom nom nom. in God of War for example, benchmarks mostly show i will gain what 8 fps maybe? but thats on ultra/high settings. you go down to "original" in graphics setting with a 5800x3d, and the gains are nuts, even for a 6800 xt level card.

so yeah, pretty happy the way it all worked out really. got some great deals. still love my steam deck. solid combo.

@oxrufiioxo you were correct a week or two ago when you said I have a good setup having multiple outlets, i have the best of a few different worlds, not just a single high end system which for some reason i was focused on heavily for a long time (don't get me wrong, I'd still like a 7900 xtx if my 6800 xt sells, but honestly don't care at this point, its a good rig, been rock solid stable for me since day 1, which i can't say the same for when i tried 13600k (I had mobo issues, nothing wrong with the 13600k itself, Intel LAN specficially was giving me a massive headache disconnecting all the time, I'm glad I use realtek LAN now) and then i tried 7700x because microcenter was giving away free ram with it (but then the mobo for that had insane ear bleeding coil whine, and the ram at expo gave errors... even though the ram was QVL)... that's when i said ok, next gen just isn't there yet, got a refund, and here I am. glad it worked out this way, been really happy with the stability and smoothness of old gen so far. all my games have been super smooth, now that smoothness is only going to get better.

Well......hate to disappoint, but some realistic expectations are in order......

Regardless, ladder games should be smooth sailing, since it's mostly AI actions that slows SC2 down the most. 5800X3D is a great way to get rid of the hardware itch. Install and forget, spend time doing more valuable things.

Aye butt i shoulda bought a 1 gig or higher
Send it back and get the 1tb model! They are only $23 more, pretty much everywhere right now. I nearly picked up that very drive (great choice btw)but opted for the
WD sn850x 1tb instead...just cuz. Price was the same.

I only do co-op games with friends, so its mostly AI on the board.

I agree with you about the itch part, and if it wasn't for my friend buying my 5600, i was happy to stay with 5600. but like I said i am losing almost no money on this, so its a solid plan. :toast:

I do have a tendency to get sweet deals, speaking of which, I only pay 1% tax on this 5800x3d cause of the cash back on my card feature. :rockout: so its truly only like a $201 upgrade out of pocket. not bad, all things considered. My Steam Deck was $360, my steam dock was $7, and the list goes on, on , on!

Looks like it's made in 2022! Yessss! (UEFI-BIOS version P2.40, like what I have in my daily driver)

Looks like I won't be popping in that Ryzen 7 3700X, unlike past motherboards.

It does have different caps for the audio, it looks like, clearly a different batch that looks like a very-late revision.

The caps that I believe are for the onboard audio, look smaller, but they are Elna-branded. There are 5 of them, like in my daily-driver. Will it even sound different?

Looks like Elna usually only does audio caps, BTW.

Got a new tablet, with physical keyboard and a digital multimeter. Concerning the tablet, I thought that given the Mediatek SOC and an unlockable bootloader that setting up root would be easy.... not so much. Kinda pissing me off actually. It's a decent tablet, but without root, it's usefulness for me is limited.

Also needed a few new microSD cards and BestBuy was having a sale. $14 for the 128GB and $26 for the 256GB. Hell yeah!
Forgot I snagged one on clearance a few months ago :)

The motherboard is booting into the BIOS and I was able to make changes. Haven't tried to install an OS yet. I disabled SVM, as I plan to use my Arc A770, for a reported issue.

Popped in my Samsung 970 Pro 512 GB NVMe SSD.

Panasonic is my favorite brand, good choice!
Honestly, I can't think of a single crappy Panasonic product I have owned ever... that's a pretty good endorsement in todays disposable tech world.

Theres probably one out there somewhere, but I have yet to find it, lol.

Intel Xeon E5-2696v3
It was 65 usd from ebay. 18 core 3.8ghz max turbo.
And still usable for gaming. Not optimal but usable. (2698v3 is almost the same cpu)
Rebar is supported with bios efi module mod on x99 and server versions.
