I'm also skeptical even before on how they can bench so many hardware configs so fast

That's because they probably don't, they also have extremely sketchy, unexplained methodology. Especially in games such as Starfield that don't have any standardized benchmark scene. It's SEO crap.

That said my protest isn't over stronger than usual AMD numbers (even the D3D12 library they use in this game is from AMD, so that's expected), it's over the methodology and origin of these numbers

Seriously I'm so glad I bought a 7900XT. It falls royally above 60 (min) FPS almost everywhere I look in recent titles. And that's not common it seems anymore. Damn

Also, beating a 1200 dollar card feels pretty neat, and that's rapidly starting to look like a common thing as new stuff comes out.

Serious hype over here but I shall resist :banghead:
If you have it, I say play it. I played for 5hrs without 1 crash. Its 4am, I have work in 5hrs, off to bed, 12hr shift with on 4.5hrs of sleep.

On the STEAM Forums are some folks complaining that they bought the "Premium Edition" and are unable to launch the game since release. Some are suggesting that it would work if you restart STEAM or restart your PC. If you got similar issues just give it a shot.

Its sitting at 90% positive reviews on metacritic for both pc and console how is that a flop by any measure?

I don't wanna spill the beans, but the game is rigged. ;) According to ComputerBase the outlets who got a review sample 2 weeks prior where "cherry picked". ComputerBase, Rock, Paper & Shotgun and Eurogamer all had to buy their copies at release with their own money. If you look at the reviews at MetaCritic those who got review samples are the "usual suspects" who hand out ratings of 80-100 for basically every game, no matter how trash it is. (compare it side by side with the Battlefield 2042 critics reviews and you'll get the bigger picture)

That's how tricky publishers shape public perception to increase initial sales. And before the other outlets get their reviews done the review score will stay there for a while. And tons just fall for it.

And more importantly game reviews are not objective, as taste differs, and we agree with the reviews we already agree on. Personally I think Betsoft games are 8/10 games, at best, and thus I am sceptical of anyone claming any Bethsoft game is GOTY material. But in the end I think it's meaningless to base purchases of reviews, because again, they are subjective. User reviews are pretty silly too, IMO. The older I get the more I realise that I disagree with most people on most things.

Fired it up last night to just make sure everything worked. Decided on going the combat medic route. Game looks nice and I think will be interesting enough to keep me engaged. Will play for real this evening.

A guy I trust was showing a comparison of a 3080 vs 6800XT and the 6800XT obliterates the 3080 12GB so the numbers might not be far off for this game. The 7900XT was only slightly slower than my 4090 and destroys the 4070ti as well. Hopefully Wiz gets a chance to do some comparison numbers soon but I think this will be a good performer on AMD.

Because most of them have huge egos and think they are special somehow, and their opinion is better than gamers, worse still some people believe them.

After my system unpacked the game which took 5-10m I had to restart steam to get it to launch.

I do fine that interesting but it surprises me that RPS didn't get early access they reviewed Fallout 4 pretty well. The Eurogamer reviews was critical but mostly positive as well. I don't even know who or what ComputerBase is so I can't comment on them.

It's an AMD sponsored game, so surely it shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone that it performs better on amd gpus...

That german site is so massively pro intel - includes newest and fastest intel cpus, but doesn't include the new amd cpu's...

Although they also seem to hate 12th generation testing it with comically slow memory....

They do that mostly to hurt amd - they are affected by slow memory speeds way more.

The memory is part of it but even then it looks sketch.
I agree. The difference is too great to be explained by the roughly 27% faster memory for the 13900k. The 13900k has nearly 65% better 99th percentile frame times.

So can you actually land on planets like No Man's Sky or Frontier Elite II of 1993 fame?

No it's more like ME/Destiny but you can fly in space though but not from planet to planet. While that would be cool it doesn't bother me how they decided to handle it. I can understand why some are disappointed with this approach though.

The space combat is actually better than I expected.

Bethesda isn't the most tech savvy studio anyone who expected them to make a giant free roaming galaxy that is actually performant on anything is unrealistic.... Look at Star Citizen and how much of a mess it is with its bazillion dollars of backer funding I much prefer Bethesda approach partly because it was actually finished in my lifetime lol.

I would be interested to hear from them as to why you cannot land or take off from planets yourself though... I remember them mentioning it during their showcase but they didn't go into detail from what I remember.

Video review.

I like his channel and while I think his results are good indication of general performance people should wait for HUB or TPU results which likely have way more passes etc for a definite performance review.
