I must add that I pay considerably extra to (1) rent a DVR box with my cable service, then (2), pay extra for the DVR service. But these extra fees allow me to record a show, then, when ready to watch, skip past the ads. For example, after Stephen Colbert's monolog and the remaining of the show, I can tell my remote to fast forward 4 and 1/2 minutes, bypassing all the commercials. :) This way, a 60 minute show lasts ~45 minutes.

I do that, too. Still on a Tivo. Paying through the nose but skip ads no problem :)

Would you walk in to McDonalds and say, "gimme a Big Mac" and expect them to just give it to you? And if they didn't would you go tell all your friends McDonalds is just a money hungry bastard?

I got free coffee from McDonald the other day and my local cafe, i can't complaint about that

I got a deal for 3 month of disney plus for less then 3 euros each month, i just don't want to pay premium price for somthing i have never payed for.

There might be a limit to my free bitdefender but don't miss anything, the same for other programs, apps i use that is free, i watch a toon of ads when playing angry birds, i just think it's to much money for youtube premium

IMHO, if you are not harming the company by bypassing their monetization and wouldn't use the service if you couldn't bypass it, I call it fair game.

YouTube knows it as well.

Come on Lex. This has nothing to do with the OP's complaint.
Really? We're not talking about YouTube ads and blocking them?
NO WHERE in my post did I say, suggest or imply that YouTube's ads should not be blocked.
Oh really? You said....
^^^This^^^ It is ironically amazing, in a pathetic sort of way, how some, who clearly are NOT destitute, living on the streets and rummaging through trash bins for half-eaten sandwiches, or sleeping under bridges to get out of the weather, using cardboard boxes for a blanket, whine, cry and complain that they can't have something for free - as though they are entitled to it - at others expense. And then when they don't get their free hand-outs, they accuse the others of being greedy, money-hungry bastards. Really sad.
...that. You may not have directly said it, but you implied it AND tried that shame-the-user crap. Blocking ads is NOT about users being entitled. You KNOW that! Stop siding with the company doing things in a way that is inappropriate.
So this is you, again, misrepresenting what others have said. Why? To stroke your own ego?
Oh, yeah, that's what happened. It's never you being the problem, it's always me and my extra super-sized ego... :slap:

Except you don't have to pay. Nothing says you MUST buy the Premium plan. You can just go get a cup of coffee or hit the head when an ad comes on - just like we do now with free broadcast TV or even cable TV (which is hardly free) when a commercial comes on.

I understand what you are saying but it is not about those who don't have too much or those who have more than they will ever need. It is about a business being paid for a product or service they provide.

Would you walk in to McDonalds and say, "gimme a Big Mac" and expect them to just give it to you? And if they didn't would you go tell all your friends McDonalds is just a money hungry bastard?

Depending on the source you believe, YouTube has ~2,800 employees. We have to assume these employees have bills, rent, need to eat. Many surely have families they need to support. How is any company going to pay their employees without some means of earning revenue.

I see this from both sides. I am a consumer, and far from being a rich consumer. I sure don't want to be ripped off by corporate greed. But I also ran my own electronics repair and IT consulting business for years. I needed my company to make money to pay my overhead expenses, to make a living so I could support my family and pay my bills, AND so I could make payroll and pay my employees from the income we made providing our services.

You would be amazed if you knew how many people came in, almost on a daily basis, asking us how to troubleshoot their computers or repair this or that electronics problem - expecting us to just give our expertise (and business and source of revenue) away for free.

Again, would you just walk into Burger King and demand free Whoppers? Or go into Walmart and demand free toys then complain that Burger King and Walmart are greedy if they did not give you free handouts?
There's a difference between paying 5 quid for a Big Mac, and paying 15, doing two questionnaires and listening to a 2-minute speech from the local WHO representative before you can eat it.

Similarly, if I have to watch an ad or two before my video to avoid paying for premium, fair enough. But being interrupted every 5 minutes with two 15-20-second ads that can't be skipped is a little bit too much. So is sentences, or sometimes even words being interrupted with an ad, forcing me to rewind and watch more ads.

I read the DMCA rules about this.
No one is using the rules properly.
Browser base adblocking has zero to do with anything written in the rules. As browser is just a window to view the web/internet.

Figured this would happen eventually, but didn't expect the super dick bundling move w/ YT Music.
YT Music is already $110 a year (annual rate), so they are just ramming it down everyone's throat @ $140 (annual rate) here.

Not a chance in hell I'm paying that much to remove ads from an otherwise free service (especially when there's other ways of doing that - AdBlock on Chrome still works).

I don't know if it's been mentioned, but Youtube Premium do have another good benefit: Videos playing in the background, which is great for tablets/mobile.

If you want to discuss how and in what way the corporations earn their money - fine.
Corporations want to operate in a monopoly way and they do what they can to achieve it. So do I care about their profit when they kill as much as they can competition that I prefer?

On my computer, I try to have as much control as I can, so I will decide do I want to see something or not.
There are applets/programs through which we can watch youtube free of ads for free, we can control our browser in the same way. There are so many tools that can help you block this that you do not want to download/see, you just need to know a little bit about how your computer works.

is it even legal for YT to enforce the end user to disable the adblocker while they are offering a free service???
Of course. They are offering it for free, which ensures you have nearly no rights in this matter. I'm honestly perplexed anyone would expect much more.

What do monopolies have to do with Google trying to monetize a service that's been constantly losing them money? Who are they killing, there's a bunch of other streaming services out there that run just fine (Idk if they're also bleeding $$$, but for the time being they're still alive).

Did you think that there aren't other people/companies that can develop similar services?
Did you think that all over the world others are so much stupid to be competitive?
Didn't you see any other competitors? Maybe you use Google to search for them? ;)
Oh, and Google loses so much money but is still so rich, poor they :'( They deserve more, and more, and more...

Your welcome.

Did you watch all the ads when you watch TV? Didn't you switch channel/go for coffee/other?

If I need something I will not just click on random ad and buy it.
If I need something I will go and will choose between all the similar products that I found because I prefer to have a choice.
And as you can read here, there are many other people who want the same thing - just to remove ads because they do not want these products.

And one more funny situation. If I go and search for something, let's say a video card, I will choose and buy it before the search engine starts advertising me cards, and it will throw ads with cards next few days to all devices in my network (because the search is from my IP). And no one in my network will need these ads - isn't this just useless spam for me and for those who pay for this advertisement?

Solution (worked for me) :
uninstall every adblocker but ublock (youtube enhancer also)
and put this code in the "My Filters" page
code:
Code:
youtube.com##+js(set, yt.config_.openPopupConfig.supportedPopups.adBlockMessageViewModel, false)

youtube.com##+js(set, Object.prototype.adBlocksFound, 0)

youtube.com##+js(set, ytplayer.config.args.raw_player_response.adPlacements, [])

youtube.com##+js(set, Object.prototype.hasAllowedInstreamAd, true)

Not really no. They have no means to know that you've already purchased the product you're after, unless you give them personally identifiable tracking data. Otherwise it's just a hail Mary thinking someone in your household or you yourself will purchase another.

Mercado Libre has been trying to sell me a computerized Celestron worth a small car the last few days though!

Youtube is actually making a lot of money already. Google just wants to keep it that way.

I don't think anybody outside Google and few inside Google know how many users use adblocking. It used to be negligible. But maybe no longer so.

Another reason against counter-adblocking is that people who want to block ads are also unlikely to click on them, so it is kind of pointless to show the ads to them. But Youtube is a bit special here: whereas most regular ads are being paid by click Youtube ads are paid by the number of successful showings (not skipped), regardless of whether the user clicks.

Finally, I think that extensive advertising inside the video (as opposed to just before) might have increased adblock use significantly.

I haven't seen a report saying YouTube was in the black. But that's not the point. The point is, you and I don't get to dictate the terms under which YouTube should serve us videos. Unless we pay. End of story.

If by resistance you mean complaints on random forums, yes, it is.
If you mean, vote with you wallet/time and stop using YouTube, then I'm with you.
