i have a question about the RTC's (Realtime Clocks) models Dallas DS1287 and ST M48T86PCI (or PC1?)

I asked a Youtuber about this, and he said that i can swap these 2 for each other

I checked online for the pinouts of these 24 pin RTC's and find that only 2 pins are different on these 2. (Pin21 and Pin13)

Anyone have more info?

The Dallas DS1287

The ST M48T86PCI

Pin 13 is the same. Just different terminology.
For pin 21, you would be putting RTL pin in a no connection hole.
Can't confirm if it will work, but it won't hurt anything if it doesn't.

Is it worth buying this MSI MPG X570 Gaming EDGE MAX WIFI AM4 ATX AMD Motherboard Faulty FAMD6 £59
30 day customer return, stated a faulty but no reason given. Unable to test due to no test CPU.He has other faulty boards for sale none inclued CPU.s .So could it be a case of trying a cpu in there? And is £59 pound to much for a faulty board? Can anyone see any damage there? Is it worth taking a punt on it ,or is it to riskey?

I've actually done this! There is a catch and it's not an easy one to know ahead of time. These parts are perfectly interchangeable on most, but not all, boards of the time. As MrScott said, if it doesn't work, it will not hurt anything. You have about a 94% chance of it working perfectly as is, a 5% chance that you will have to find were the RCL line(pin21) goes to and bodge a wire from that pin to the proper contact and a 1% chance it will not work at all.

You should be good to go.

EDIT:
Also Clint did another LGR Oddware thing!
Clint, you're awesome! Don't EVER change!

Here's a 'kinda sorta retro but not really' update I posted to another forum:

As part of my misadventures in retro rig building, I decided to attempt getting Win7 running on my old primary rig board, a Gigabyte Z390 Aorus Master with an 8350K I grabbed off of ebay and re-lidded with Conductonaut, a new Nextorage 1TB NVMe and Kingston Fury 3600C16 memory. I got a nearly fully updated custom Win7 ISO, and wham bam, what do you know, it installed fine. The only things that Snappy Driver and some internet digging could not install were the Wifi/Bluetooth drivers (hardwired anyway so don't need) and the non-existent Nvidia USB-C driver. It took a little digging but no issues getting the Realtek ALC1220 running either (driver from an GB X370 board did the trick). Also, the Kingston ram booted XMP with no issues and passed Memtest86+ with flying colors, when this same board absolutely hated my Gskill 3200C14 kit. Go figure.

I still have to OC this thing and benchmark it, but this should be an absolute killer Windows 7 machine for Dirt 2/3 and Crysis. It'll be fun comparing GPU and CPU performance with Crysis on this versus my Devils Canyon 4790K and Broadwell 5775C CPUs.

I basically have come full circle on all these hardware swaps. First I got into Z97 for both WinXP and 7 with an Asus Maximus Impact and an Asrock Z97 Anniversary (running in my super mean WinXP build). I originally wanted to get a max Win7 build on an eVGA Z97 Classified (went to Win10 and failed to dual boot it with Win7 because of BIOS issues. Reverted to older BIOS versions fixed the Win10 issues). Bought an Asus Z97 Hero because I wanted NVMe. And now I got Win7 running on my original main rig parts that were retired when I built my new Raptor Lake machine. Lol.....

Maybe I'll put this 8350K in the wife's rig and steal my 8086K back for this machine. Seems fitting for a beast Win7 build.

I would be interested in bench results between that and Devil's Canyon. :)
I have Z370 I was thinking of doing the same thing on. Maybe dual boot with XP?

The question there is if you can source drivers for a Z370 to run XP on. My understanding was that XP driver support ended with Intel 4th gen.

Dunno why but I dug up two older HP laptops from my closet so let's install their original OSes (Vista Home Basic & Business) with their original cd keys. Though more have 2GB more RAM than stock so Vista won't be that sluggish.

Question, is this for fun or is there a practical purpose for using XP on newer hardware?
Benchmarking. There are certain older benches that run better on XP than any other OS.

Benchmarking is about it. For any normal gaming purposes, even if you tweak the games for widescreen and modern display resolutions and max AA, you only need so much horsepower for DX9 games.

Today was a good day for the collection

GeForce 3 Ti200 - $? wont know what I'm paying until I can confirm dead or working, never had one of these, rare enough find.

This cheap and cheerful older group, all reported to be working as of last use, for the bargain sum of 5 bucks. 5$ AUD. Even if some don't I can repurpose coolers onto similar cards.

In a clockwise circle, starting top left and ending in the center.

Do you have a link to your diagnostic card? By that I mean is there a make & model for the card that you can provide us?

What BIOS are you working with? AMI? Award? Phoenix?

Nothing new to report. Been playing some Quake2 and Max Payne on the Voodoo4 socket A system mentioned in post #7033. Minus the Bigfoot drive.

Still runs perfectly. Nostalgia to the max.
