I'm defecting to nVidia...

Sometimes it plays out. I bought a BenQ GL2450HT for like a third of it's retail price and it's been great for ... coming up on nine years of heavy use.
PPL don't bin monitors. Stay away from cpus and gpus openbox because there's no telling the abuse those components have seen. And with a strict 30 day return, you know the vendor has ideas...

Should be less than that, like 48h you know.

The key is you paid 1/3, for me to even considering somthing used it would need to be at most 1/2 retail but even then I don't feel it's ever a good investment unless you know the person you're purchasing it from.

Gpus I would rather drop a tier than buy a used one too many variables on top of no warranties and usually you save peanuts in the neighborhood of 15% assuming it isn't 2-3 generations old.

If the price seems too good, it's for reasons..
TBF in the UK, you'll be lucky to get a few % discount from open box items, maybe £30-£40 cheaper than their selling RRP for something like a GPU, maybe @Blaeza can enlighten us? though who's buying a 6900XT at nearly £700 when you can get a 7900 GRE for a little over £500 that should in all accounts be better whilst using quite a lot less energy, better perf/watt, newer architecture etc etc

This really depends on where you live tbh.
I did not buy a brand new GPU since 2015 cause the retail prices are completely insane around here, on the second hand market I can find good deals for like half of that so its more like 2 tiers down for the same money or so.
For example when I've bought my second hand TuF 3060 Ti with still 1 year warranty on it 2 years ago it was either that or a brand new 6600 XT and that I wasn't willing to pay for a 6600..
I always buy from reputable sellers/solid second hand site and if possible I meet in person and this way I'm yet to have any issues with second hand hardware. 'knocks on wood:oops:'

For sure it depends a lot on location.

I'm also very aware that in some countries these cost what people make in 2-3 months salary so every dollar counts.

Yeah I rarely get to upgrade and then I try to get the most out of my budget and for my use case so I rather take some risks but I always try to minimize it. 'aint buying from sketchy ppl nor anything with no warranty left on it at all'
Smoker hardware is also a big no-no for me so that would be a hard pass for me.:D

Open box items tho, that depends on the retailer.
The one I know about gives you full 2 years tho I wouldn't exactly call the price that much different vs a brand new one either. '12 months is like by law if its sold by a retailer'

What smoke, cigarettes smoke is bad for PCs, are you serious ?

I smoke cigarillos.

I think it was a discount of about £150 in December '22

I think a GRE at just over 500 is in my future...

If you can wait for rdna 3 to be very discounted or RDNA4 probably both will happen at the same time never good to buy a previous generation gpu at the end of a generation unless heavily discounted.

I know, but I always seem to be right between launches when I actually have money for stuff.

Put it in an pc fund trust

My GPU went bowling, slipped, got some glass in the eye.

I recently quit smoking cigarettes. 30 years. Like 90th time trying to quit.... maybe I should just smoke weeds man. Ya man.

Dave's not here man.

Everyday

What's the problem with the GPU, smoke of joints got it oily ?
Oily and the heatsink is full of cat hair and gunk. I'm ashamed. Fans were spinning max 2730 and they usually hit 3200! I did clean the vans vaguely and they went back to normal.

I would just take it apart, but its huge and has many fiddly little ribbons that I do not cope with.

Where you in the UK?

For a year nearly before I noticed hot spot hit 90C max! That's why it's such a shame it didn't even get to use pcie gen 4 full performance... But a GRE is cheaper, faster, better RT, same wattage and less transients

Cats hair problem can be solved, put your PC higher, like a furniture screwed to the wall at 1.5 metter, less smoke too (i hope).

If it's RT, get 3000 cheap (my 3060xs 12gb sold 250 1 year ago) and keep 5000's money for the day i t's out, instead.
Buying GPU asap it's out at full price and use it better than wait price going down enough to justify waits is 2 years for 25% off..

My 1060e 4070ti is now 914e, 1 year 8 months for just 150 buck i'm happy i grabbed it asap.

Don't get 80, just 70, 60 series is crap (i know well that's all iu got all my life before)

PNY builds good GPU

My walls barely hold a picture... I'm going to get some very thin tights and put it over front intake....:kookoo:
I don't like nVidia, don't know why. And a gre has16gb ram,

Make the cat pay for it:)
Cats don't pay, we pay cats for existing, it''s the better living animal god created.

Anyway RT will be in next ATI... not that good, but here. A lot games have infact lite RT, like RE games.......

Make the cat pay for it:)
Oh wait, selling a racial cat, yeah, the tiny babies cost an arm.

  • Haha
Reactions: izy
I believe this should be moved to The Lounge now, way out of context...

FFS, I can't afford a '4070! Looks like I will go to my Sparkle Arc A770 16 GB.
