I did not know Flora meant margarine in the UK, interesting how vastly those two different words are. Usually I am ok navigating American English vs British English, but sometimes a surprise comes along once in awhile, and that is one of them!

I will try to find a butter one infused with garlic, I'm too lazy to do it myself.
As mentioned, Flora is a popular brand of margarine.

If any of your UK friends have Tesco Club Card. Tesco are doing these for £1. Normally they are like £2.30. Better fatten yourself up a bit more before you leave us.

I have lost 10 pounds (4.5 kg) since being here for a month (and I have been eating terrible), not having illegal chemicals (food additives that america uses) in your food is doing wonders for me I expect (plus walking every day to be fair), MURICA #1

Guys...

It is with great pain that I'm writing this. I will be disappearing from the forum for the next week or possibly few weeks.

Long story short, my mom passed away on Thursday due to an extremely quick variety of cancer that brought her down from 100 to 0 within a mere 2-3 weeks. We didn't even have the chance for a proper talk during this time which hurts me like crazy. She meant the world to me, and my soul is completely devastated. I don't know what will happen next. Without her, I'm completely lost in this wilderness we call life. Only the family I've got left (dad, brother and the missus) shine the light that keeps me going. But where to? I don't know.

All I know is that I will be flying to Hungary soon to help my dad and brother with the funeral and anything else they might need, although I'm dreading entering the house and seeing how empty and quiet it is. My mom's role in the family was similar to a motherboard's role in a computer, she was the heart and brain of us all, so you can imagine that things are a bit messed up right now.

In the meantime, I might pop up here and there, I might drop a like or two to your messages, but I don't think I'll be actively contributing. I feel empty, I've got nothing left to contribute. I know I'll get through this, I've had some tough shit before, but this is such devastating pain that I've never experienced in my life. It'll take time to heal.

Until then, take care and keep gaming, friends. See you soon.

Losing a loved parent is horrendous. It changes you forever. There is no comfort to offer, but only the rationale that it is the natural order of things. You will get through it - you must for your family. You look after them now. This is what completes our transition to adulthood. You choose to step up to the plate, and be there for them. Be strong for them. When my dad died I had to be strong for my mum, because my older brother was a wreck. You'll push through this. Do it for your family.

My partner had a bad time when her mum died of bowel cancer, she was there when her mum died from what i can work out, quite horribly too. She has had to have a fair bit of counciling and still has not fully come to terms with it. You just have to accept that at some point you will lose your parents, and i guess that your kids will have to go through the same.

That's the only attitude that works. My girlfriend is the best one I could ever have. She deserves an amazing life. If not for her, I don't know where I'd be right now.

Luckily, my brother gave up being a wreck about a year ago, although he still lives with my dad. He can give any physical support, while I'm here for emotional, and financial help if needed.

Sorry to hear about your partner's mum. :(

No kids here. There's a high chance that I'm gonna die alone unless something unexpected happens, like my mum's quickly spreading cancer. She was 58, while my dad is 72 and still rocking hard, thank God.

Huh, I said I'd leave for a couple of weeks, didn't I? I guess it's nice to talk a little while I'm waiting for further news.

As sad and as shit as this is. Its reality. Treasure and love those you hold dear because there will come a day when its their turn to cross the rainbow bridge.

@AusWolf Wish you all the best

when a family member dies in my family, loads of people bring over food, and I know it sounds silly, but it actually did help the healing process for me, because food helps us heal in more ways than one imo

also, here is my favorite lunch I had again today, I took a picture this time to show you, since you didn't know what I meant before

ciabatta bread toasted with goat butter and tuna steak/mayo with cucumber, I eat the halves, I don't put it together like a sandwich

Toasted ciabatta is mouth shrapnel. Tasty. But a test of gum endurance. And my dentist says I've got beautiful gum health.

Someone around here seems pretty obsessed with food :D @AusWolf ............... So sorry to hear about your loss, all loss is hard to bear but the loss of a Mum especially is life changing, I lost mine 26 years ago, I was 38 and she was 66, she died in an accident but it sounds that for you it was almost as sudden. The only thing I can say to you is that in time the many thoughts you will have of her will all bring a smile and a warmth to your life, wherever it leads.

Damn, man... I don't know how you got through it. This feeling is soul shattering. I'm 34 now, she was 58, but I feel like I'm 4 again when she and my dad first took me to kindergarten which I didn't understand why and felt totally lost without them. We had such a deep connection and now it's all gone. I cherish all of our good memories together, I just wish I cherished them a bit more while they happened.

I actually did hurt my mouth once, but it's been a long time, I am more careful when I eat it now, also I try to not toast it too much these days to avoid just that.

yes, it's one of the few pleasures in life, speaking of which Aldi's has a pre-made hamburger you an buy on the cheap, its giant and tastes delicious. I like to bbq sauce on it and a special bun I buy from the local co-op

I'm glad you had such a good relationship with your mom, I don't even talk to mine. My mom treated me terribly growing up.

It will come back, when it will return is different for all of us and when it does it will be changed but not lost. You may not even believe it at this difficult time but you will get there eventually, well I did and it took me a year to grieve properly, my wife was a huge support (my Dad died when I was 13) as it seems your partner is, hold on to that.

Its better eaten with some thick minestrone or tomato soup. I love me some sour dough bread just for this!

Spread it with a topping (I like cream cheese as a base layer) and let it sit for a few minutes to take the sharp edges off.

Cream cheese, Italian sausage, and basil/oregano with some grated Mozzarella on top.

Now I am hungry.

public transport is running horribly today where I am at in the UK, 10-15 mins late so far.

bleh

also, I hate your toothpaste here, in American movies where you see their mouth foam up a lot when they brush their teeth, that is actually all I have known my entire life, but for some reason your toothpastes here don't foam at all, it feels so weird brushing my teeth, the foam makes it fun I guess

You need patience using public transport outside of London, bus timings these days tend to be an estimate rather than a promise.

Random probably private and very nosey question....

(its fine if its too private and dont want to answer)

At what age did you want to join the military or knew in your heart that you wanted to join? I am childhood friends/acquaintances with a select few that dreamed of it as early as the ages of 6-10. Not all of them joined though. One became an Infantryman although Im not quite sure which regiment he was apart of may or may not have been deployed and done tours of Iraq. The other joined the Royal Corps of Signals. Another two did make it to the RAF but I am unsure what happened to them as I've lost contact with them over the years.

--- Im just being pretty damn nosey and wanted to know if Tatty_Zero knew. Either way, Im sure he would have been pretty damn proud. Tatty_Mum too! (We all are! Im sorry for being nosey)

I think I first thought about it around the age of 10 or 11 but the town where I lived in Worcestershire (Malvern) had little to no prospects for school leavers as half the population were older retired people and there was no industry or manufacturing to speak of so I think I made up my mind around 13 or 14 and applied and got accepted when I was 15.

I loved sport and was pretty good at running representing the county in athletics etc. I saw it as the only route of interest, most of the kids who were a couple of years older than me were either not working or had moved away.

Being only 16 when I enlisted my Mum had to give written consent to which she refused, with me being an only child and my Dad dying of Heart Disease only 2 and a bit years earlier I can understand why she wanted me to stay home with her, I told her that if she would not consent all I would do is sit at home for 2 years doing nothing until I was 18 at which point I wouldn't need her consent so she reluctantly conceded and off I went, that decision and the impact it had on her was a leading cause of around 10 years of absolute guilt after she died.

I see. It seems I have been to brazen and stepped on a bit of a landmine...

I'm sorry for being nosey, But THANK YOU and much Respect for sharing.

One hell of a catch 22... I think the most important thing here is that as much as Mum hated the idea of it. You went all the way with it and didnt bail half way. You didnt waste the chance that she gave you.

public transport is running horribly today where I am at in the UK, 10-15 mins late so far.

bleh

also, I hate your toothpaste here, in American movies where you see their mouth foam up a lot when they brush their teeth, that is actually all I have known my entire life, but for some reason your toothpastes here don't foam at all, it feels so weird brushing my teeth, the foam makes it fun I guess

Our toothpaste isn't made of sugar in the UK
