I don't think there's much of "defending" a company. Prices are higher, consumers who used to pay for a product line before now have to spend more (like you), and those customers ofc don't like that.
Issue is that the broad customer has changed. GPUs are now more valuable since they can do stuff other than games. Whereas previously GPUs were bought mostly by gamers, now there are other people demanding those devices, and thus pricing rises.
There's not much that can be done. Of course there will still be some gamers with deep pockets that can still afford keeping their hobby, but your average gamer will need to downgrade, while prosumers buy those products happily since it's still cheap from their point of view.
The current pricing scheme so far seems to be acceptable for the overall market, thus nvidia can keep at it, much to the dismay of the gaming crowd.

The "issue" is that nvidia is not catering to the gaming crowd anymore, and that's ok.

Oh, a lot can be done:
1. Nvidia exits the gaming market, no one will miss them.
2. Nvidia abandons the GeForce brand, and uses its "valuable" GPUs for those who will pay - miners, the ones that demand those GPUs.

Gamers are not interested any more. Because there is no generational uplift. Whatever you got 5 years ago, the same you will get now.

1. Nvidia exits the gaming market, no one will miss them.
It still brings them a lot of cash, and people do buy those GPUs still, why would they exit?
CUDA got to be where it is at today because many folks manage to get their compute running easily in a entry-level GPU back at their undergrad years ago.
Also, I don't think having 1 less player in a market with only "3" players would do any good to anyone.
2. Nvidia abandons the GeForce brand, and uses its "valuable" GPUs for those who will pay - miners, the ones that demand those GPUs.
They are doing so with the geforce brand already, marketing lots of features that are not really relevant to gamers.
Gamers are not interested any more. Because there is no generational uplift. Whatever you got 5 years ago, the same you will get now.
Doesn't seem to be the case, looking at charts like steam's hardware survey there are still plenty of gamers interested, even if this number is not the same as 5 years ago.

"i wish this brand would disappear" is a really weird take.

The RX Vega 64 has a 2048-bit bus. I'm sure it's faster than anything available today. Oh wait...

And what's your point? GTX 580 was RTX 4090 level gpu for 499$.

Bandwidth is important, but it isn't like it used to be. There are many other variables at play.

Bus width isn't everything. You cannot judge a card's overall speed based on memory bus width alone.

Sad is reading in every Nvidia thread Team red users complaining endlessly about everything.
Honestly man do you have business being a mod when your stance starts here.

Are these 'team red users'? Its really funny, the shortsightedness. Did you know the system specs on TPU only really allow for one system to be placed there? Does it occur to you that people move back and forth between 'teams' all the time? That there is a third team now in GPU land? That a lot of Nvidia teammates also own a console with an AMD APU?

I really hope you will use 2025 to open your mind a little bit instead of letting your gut speak - as a mod. You've certainly not improved lately.

The 5090 appears to be double in everything compared to the 5080. It is definitely not meant to be a gamer's card, perhaps in name only.

Back in the 2000s I played CS Source with a couple friends and they told me their PC cost like 4000usd, I was like wow that's awesome (I also bought all the fastest GPUs I could afford back then too).

Now we have envious people try to mock others for spending their own money :kookoo:
This is never really what its about. I think in the end its about fair play and fair markets. The current markets aren't fair. People get sour. When the gap between have / have not widens, this is only logical.

You have done that enough from what I have seen.
So now you're excused too? That'll go well! Think, man... think.

I've been reined in enough, too, and I've changed my attitude quite a bit over the years - and that credit goes to good moderation.

I think its worth considering the above response to nguyen. People get sour. People whine and complain. Its something that has always happened, but currently, the market's really bad, and the marketshare is leaning towards a full monopoly. The hobby we all love, is slowly going to shit. And yes, we will complain about the biggest catalyst to that movement, of course! That doesn't make anyone anti Nvidia. It makes people anti bad competition. Stop thinking in camps. Our goals are, ultimately, aligned.

I'm not sure that's why. I think it's just become unaffordable. It's hard to be interested in something when the cost is nearly unattainable.

Negativity is being spewed because the current situation is dire, on many fronts... of course someone will piss over the sunshine. And it gets tiring, yes. But reality is a b*tch.

There are very few positives to be said about the current GPU market, you've even underlined this yourself, having to buy several tiers below what you would have wanted over the years. I feel very little need nor motivation to sprinkle positives here to be honest. And when you enter a topic called 'next gen GPUs will be even more expensive' .... yeah. :D

Perhaps in forum land the solution is to underline the requirement to make clear and descriptive opening posts and topic titles, so you can more deliberately swing the ban hammer if people rain on a positively intended parade. (or whatever parade with a certain intent)

I think the two are connected. If you look at the lower market segments, you'll see similar performance for the same price that you did 2-3 generations ago. Whereas on the higher end, brute force has taken innovation's place. The newest architectures have extremely minor differences from older ones. It's only that newer high-end GPUs contain more parts and cost a lot more.

The only positive is that they will be stronger gen over gen.

The pricing sucks all around, especially here in Canuckistan where our government is currently imploding.

I mean 512bit bus and gagantic die size.
512 bit bus, sure, but everything else was the same as the GTX 275 or 260 (just with slightly more enabled shaders). The price was similar, too.

I mean 512bit bus and gagantic die size similar to RTX 5090
Its going to be a crazy GPU. And I use that term loosely.

The byproduct of this card is that it can play games :D

Oh, a lot can be done:
1. Nvidia exits the gaming market, no one will miss them.
2. Nvidia abandons the GeForce brand, and uses its "valuable" GPUs for those who will pay - miners, the ones that demand those GPUs.

Gamers are not interested any more. Because there is no generational uplift. Whatever you got 5 years ago, the same you will get now.
Miners? You mean AI companies?

Gamers aren't interested? The 88% Nvidia now has in gaming market share disagrees.

You aren't wrong about stagnation of their product stack below the high end, but people still buy Nvidia whether begrudgingly or otherwise. They gained marketshare the last 2 years and AMD lost marketshare.
