ASUS GeForce RTX 5090 Astral OC

The money involved is a joke. I could easily buy this, I'm not. I could just buy a pre built desktop and or laptop with it in it, for cheaper and or at the same price.

Maybe that's their plan, I don't get it. This is robbery.

Updated, thanks!

May I ask did Asus use phase change material on the chip like they advertised? in the tear down section I see what look like TIM on the cooler. Thanks.

Hahaha Asus being Asus again. Who the hell even gets their cards anymore?! They have been having terrible prices for the last 5 years. With this generation, add 7-8 in total. 8 years of horrible prices and they are still in business? Its insane to me. You can get Asrock for a ton cheaper and its the same card, same performance and same cooling.

GG people without brains i suppose.

Normal TIM

They still have two models above that.

Galaxial for 3499 and Dark matter for 9999.

Dark matter is coated with Vantablack and nobody would presume, that the dark hole in your PC was so expensive. Only YOU know.
Event Horizon fake frames!

Soo, looking at the cooler performance, the only reason to consider this over MSI is that second HDMI port. I do run two 4k HDMI TVs and current state of DP-to-HDMI converters and their support by NVidia drivers leaves very much to be desired. For example, no VRR whatsoever.
Yet, the article totally ignores this aspect:
Display connectivity includes three standard DisplayPort 2.1b and two HDMI 2.1b.
And the next paragraph goes:
display engine that supports three DisplayPort 2.1b outputs, each capable of UHBR20; and one HDMI 2.1a

So, are those ports 2.1a or b? How do they work if only one port is supported? Does one of them run DP-to-HDMI converter under the hood? Is VRR supported on both?
I mean, this is the one and only feature aside from cooler that actually sets the products apart, I'd hope for at least some detail.

Just you wait, for the extra special individuals that will defend this product and price because its so much better :) Or 'might as well spend 2800' because you're spending 2k anyway, right?:roll:

Whatever people want to say about the Nvidia RTX 5090 FE, it manages to look 10 times better and costing $800 less than whatever this thing from Asus is.
It also throttles, and this one does not. That's what a 2 slotter does for you. Looks better yes. Do you spend actual time watching your GPU? They have treatment for that...

Still I agree, this cinder block is butt ugly, and pretty pointless overall :D

If it sells poorly (it won't), maybe ASUS will rethink their strategy (they won't). Each and every ROG Astral they made will sell...

Dear lord the coping and seething over a luxury item is absolutely bonkers. Guys, you dont have to buy this! Like, i'm not buying a 5090, but it doesnt anger me that this card exists. Some of y'all need some grass in your life (i know that's harder in winter but still).
Gaming = > 621w
Ray-Tracing = > 454w

This doesn't make sense?
It does, RT becomes your bottleneck, so your ROPs and TMUs ece are under less load since instead of pushing 120 FPS you're pushing closer to 40.

Goes to show that Black well simply didn't improve RT enough, or at all, to saturate the rest of the core.
Urgh, I see that we will only see the RTX5080 board partners reviews on the day the cards release, how the heck are we supposed to make a informed purchasing decision in time? :/
Stop being a consoooomer. Have patience. Literally every generation other cards review a few months later and sometimes they are better deals.

If you dont ABSOLUTELY need a GPU RIGHT NOW NOW NOW then just wait a few months. Or if you cant, pick up a 4080, its highly unlikely the 5080 will be much if any improvement based on the 5090's performance.

For almost three thousand bucks, I don't think I am asking too much to expect it to look the part, make my coffee in the morning, take out the trash and give me the occasional foot massage.

Luxury, lol. This not limited edition and not collectable item
TUF is now luxury too? $2450 5090 and $1700 for 5080

Nope, just pointing out that clutching pearls over luxury goods is quite silly. Honk Honk.

Neither being a limited edition nor a collectable item is required to make something a luxury.

The 5090 is a luxury GPU. It is not required for daily life nor is it required to enjoy the hobby. Being part of the TUF brand does not change that. Same, frankly, with the 5080. My 6800xt is somewhere around a 4070, and it has no issue playing games at ultra settings at 1440p. You dont NEED these cards. You WANT them. Big difference. My media PC plays games at 1080p with a RTX 4060, and it runs great. Sure, not every bell and whistle, but the games run fine and look way better then game consoles.

Are these products overpriced? Maybe, depends on the context. Are the ASUS ones worse? Yup. Does that make the whining less silly? Nope. You dont need a 5080, or a 5090, or a 4k144 hz display, or a new car, or waygu steak, or a penthouse apartment, to enjoy your life. You can play every game today on weaker GPUs, nobody needs a 5090.

It's a luxury, period.

Yes, TUF is luxury too. I know this might be shocking, but high-end GPUs (or dGPUs in general) are luxury items by default.

5090 is a flagship GPU, doesn't matter how its branded.

Kids these days, I swear. I played the horrendous GTA IV port at release on a 8600GT at medium settings and like 30-40 FPS and was happy to play at all. Get off my lawn. *furiously shakes fist at the clouds*

That "but expensive" badge needs to be worked into something like this: https://energy-efficient-products.e...nd-energy-label/understanding-energy-label_en
Instead of G->A have something like "overpriced", "severely overpriced", "ridiculous", "for the stupid" and, of course, "Asus".

I mean, I remember EVGA Classified cards. But this is doing nothing for a flat 40% markup.

On the other hand, I have always considered the xx90 cards Nvidia's dare to see how much people are willing to spend (almost like a study in psychology), I really don't care how much these go for.

We need an "Asus" badge, but instead of colored frills or a background it's just surrounded by dollar bills.

My happiest days of gaming were running my old netburst PC cobbled together with spare parts, or maybe my 550ti SLI rig in high school. The more powerful my PC gets, the less fun I have. Such a strange inverse relationship.

I remember when battlefront II and supreme commander were peak PC gaming....

Usually "luxury" products have some sort of advantage though. The cooler on this thing gets smoked by the MUCH cheaper MSI Suprim, and after an 800 dollar markup, they were too cheap to include stock PTM like they advertised. So what exactly is Asus offering here?

Sure, ALL high end cards are a luxury, but this particular one looks especially stupid.
