To whom exactly do you "highly recommend" this card over similarly priced RX6000 and RTX30 cards?
What exactly would you buy instead? and why? Curious to understand your train of thought. I shared my thoughts on that in the last part of the conclusion. I've updated all prices in the review 2 hours ago today, so they should be accurate and good for you to use

Good perf/watt, 3070 like performance and VRAM with -80watt for FHD is good, but 400$ for all around perf in 2023 and only 8GB are too much.

Just ignore the awards on TPU. They're meaningless.
So why have them? Seems like it's just damaging the site's reputation to slap "Highly Recommended" on overpriced, anti-consumer garbage like this when every other reviewer out there is taking a dump on it. I've already seen TPU's impartiality called into question (to say the least) elsewhere over this review.

I remember people complaining about the high power draw on ampere. Well there you have it folks, you don't want power draw = you don't get performance. That's how it works.

Ouch, $550 Canadian. I still see this selling really well given the crazy GPU market.

Tough sell for me, though, compared to paying:

GTX 570 for $450 (retail)
GTX 780 Ti for $650 (HWC review unit)
GTX 1070 Ti for $450 (BNIB from HWC member)

And of course it sitll gets their second highest award designation. Pretty sure Nvidia or AMD could release a product that catches fire 5 minutes after you turn your computer on and it'd get an award here. Maybe the "innovation" award.

Hey TPU: show some integrity for once and not semi endorse this crap. Notice all the likes from your readers for previous posts in this thread calling you out on this. Read the room for goodness sake.

power efficiency and frame generation make this appealing to some people, so your award makes sense to me.

everyone has different wants and needs, and that's how we should look at the awards. they make sense when the context for the specific buyer is inserted.

Nothing wrong with the performance. The issue is that this should have been the 4060 at $300 and then the reviews would be praising it for offering a very good perf/$ improvement over the older 3060 with maybe some niggling issues around 8GB vs 12GB but with the price point it would get a pass.

The entire NV stack outside of the 4090 is a tier higher than it should be and this is the result.

"Higly Recommended" ????????????????????????????????? Come on TPU....... Its barrely faster then the 3060Ti
It's actually slower in many titles than the 3060 Ti. Techpowerup done messed up their review. It should be a 16GB card for $350 at best, the 16GB RTX 4060, or 8GB 4050 Ti.

I can never recall such a bad release. You should never get less performance for the same money almost 3 years later. In any circumstances.

Maybe Wizzard paid a lot to whomever designed them and wants to get all his money's worth :p. I haven't been on TPU as much as most, but there's usually a lot of drama around the awards and it certainly creates a lot of user engagement.

I see so many people typing "it should be" .. unfortunately "it is", and it is $400 because AMD has nothing and people will still buy it at that price. If that changes NVIDIA will lower the price

6750XT for $330, 6700 for $280 - 300. even the 6800 for $485 if you are willing to spend 20% more (still less than the 4060Ti 16GB though)

EDIT: Also worth mentioning that in TLOU Pt1 and Hogwarts legacy the 4060Ti is barely better than the 3060Ti and in 1440p it is worse. Infact in TLOU at 1440p the 3060 is faster than the 4060Ti

The product is embarrassing tbh.

Actually the "Highly" part is just there to fill the empty space, but I had no better idea at the time and still have no better idea

Considering the $400 price tag I would want a card which is able to play EVERY AAA game in 1080p with MAX settings (including RT but without FG) at 60 fps or more without stuttering. We're talking about a card made for 1080p gaming for $400! For esports games I can buy an RX 6600 for half of the price of this.
So in that regard this card is a pos. It's worth ~$300 max because low power consumption, newer, blabla.
The performance of the RX 7600 should be around the RX 6700 (non-XT) so that won't catch up to the 4060 Ti. But it will be much cheaper (if the rumors are true).

Interesting .. so power/heat/noise is irrelevant for you and you don't like DLSS 3 and have RT disabled. $330 to $400 is just 20%, or one AAA game, that's not tempting for you?

I think RTX 4060 Ti does that?

Who plays with a "1080p" card and enables RT ? :D What is going on here :D

I just checked eBay, $360 for serious offers. You would really not spend the extra $40?

Just stating my observation, I wouldn't enable RT either

Edit: actually probably a lot of people, and there will be no visual difference and they'll still feel good about the awesome RT graphics

True.
And that's telling really.

It's becoming clear that the hand outs of review samples DO indeed have a cost.
Duh, those awards exist for perceived positivity. People who really read the review know better every time. Been like that since forever and not just on GPUs.

I just checked eBay, $360 for serious offers. You would really not spend the extra $40?

Well if you consider the 2080ti has 11GB...
The 4060ti is definitely running into constraints at higher resolutions, it drops positions against a plethora of other cards, even Ampere. Certainly not always because of VRAM, but rather the whole GPU falling short. If you compare its position to where the 6700(XT) and 6800(XT) are at... its a bloodbath the higher you go beyond 1080p

And that's really a little view on the near future as demands go up. The 2080ti won't fare much different but it will likely drop in price further.

I'm willing to bet that there will be some titles where the 6 yo 1080Ti that can now be found for $150 will beat this.

Maybe make one with "Highly" crossed out. That would be hilarious. I would personally cross out the Recommended as well while at it.
Sounds very professional
