Downloaded the new drivers, in the notes I noticed they fixed the DXR Feature test so decided to give it a go.

Hi! i'm new here, currently own a 3080 with a zotac 5080 coming later this month (unsure if im getting the solid or the amp infinity, depends on what stock my retailer gets later this month) and was starting to get a bit worried about the connector. Initially i wasnt quite worried cause it wont be as power hungry as a 5090 or even 4090 but after seeing someone actually get their cable melt i'm starting to worry abit. Im gonna get a strimer v2 for it too but at this point i might just take the light strips from it and put it onto my native 12vhpwr connector from my psu instead. Outside of that is there any other precautions i should be taking with the 5080 once i get it? Thanks!

The 5080 isn't the card that seems to be melting connectors. The 5090 is the card causing this problem and it would seem to be a combination of cables not made to exacting specs and the connector not making a firm connection. You really shouldn't have anything to worry about.

BTW, welcome to TPU! :toast:

I’m using a msi mag a850gl to drive my zotac amp infinity 5080 and even after benchmarking and heavy gaming, my cables and connectors are not hot. I used the MSI cable and not the zotac cable. Also welcome, I too, am a noob here.

Well that 12vhpwr or 12v 2x6 is a hot topic now (pun intended) but I wouldn't worry about it too much. I would just use the cable that comes with your PSU or the adapter and not others, connect it once and connect it so that you don't have doubts about it going all in (no pun intended this time).

I have mine connected to be quiet Pure Power 12 M 1000W, with the included 12VHPWR cable and so far no problems, cables are only little warm to the touch when running FurMark at 450W.

BTW today finally found out that this slider that comes with Gaming OC can be removed fully, not just slide left to right so now I don't have Gigabyte logo on the side, looks better :D

Thanks for the warm welcome y'all! my retailer got back to me and i'll most likely be picking my 5080 amp infinity on monday after classes.

There's been 1 case i've seen so far with a 5080 but i suppose thatcould just be an outlier.

That's nice to hear honestly, thanks for letting me know.

Looking forward to getting my card in a few days

Hi all, I've managed to buy at launch an rtx 5080, msi trio white. The card is running fine (with some coil whine). Running with the included adapter. Before installing, I pre-bended the cable, I don't know if it's supposed to look like that, on the 4th/last little cable where it says MSI. Is that little cable not connected or just cut or what's wrong with it?! As I said, the card is working fine since I bought it ~2 weeks ago, but this thing is concering me a little.
Also, I was thinking to try to send an email to MSI support and ask them if the adapter comes like this for their 5080, cuz I'm sure I didn't do anything do the plug there, I just gently pre-bended the cable towards the 8 pin connectors only.

That looks like the sense wire got partially pushed out during insertion of the connector. Try pushing that one wire in towards the card.

You have a problem. No power cable should be reach 69C. Unplug that cable and re-seat it making sure all the cable/pins are properly aligned.

There's been 1 case i've seen so far with a 5080 but i suppose thatcould just be an outlier.
Yeah, since making that statement I've seen it too. I'm starting to think that Jay(JayzTwoCents) is on to something with that loose cable pins thing. This is another indicator that the design of that connector/jack is flawed and is not acceptable.

Ah I should add that was during a benchmark the card itself was above 70+ :) will edit my post

Tbh I have no idea how to do that.. I prefer staying with it like that for some days, because anyway I plan to just get a PSU with a connector 12v-2x6 and hopefully no melting issues.

Still, the cables should never get that hot. I'd recommend reseating them just to be sure.

I have multiple times and figure its because the hot air is being blown directly onto it. It follows the gpu temps, goes down to <45 when my system isnt heatsoaked.

Instead, you’ll have to rely on the CPU PhysX solution, which is similar to what AMD GPUs have been offering all these years.

50 series don't have PhysX support anymore (32bit).

With all of the continuing problems with melted connectors and heat damage, I would still be concerned. Saying this not to criticize, only of concern for your safety.

Luckily, I am not affected.
Hope the rest of you have fully working cards as well!

Now, if only I could figure out why GPU-Z reads my clocks wrong after I use Afterburner to OC...
3 - GPU-Z - Afterburener OC applied after startup - Stress Test 1.png

4 - GPU-Z - Afterburener OC applied after startup - Stress Test 2.png

EDIT:
It makes perfect sense; the issue with GPU-Z clocks is due to editing the V/F curve

When can we expect that the different issues that are plaguing the 5000 series are going to be resolved?
In the summer I'm planning on getting a new pc.
