Good idea, and it's kept cold too.

Very cold! 58-ish degrees in Cinebench all-core. Not to mention, the dreaded VSOC sits at 1.02 V with 4800 MHz RAM, which lets the CPU go under 40 °C at idle with the AIO fans switched off. The slower RAM comes with no performance loss in my configuration and settings. And AMD said 6000 is the sweet spot? Bollocks!

Testing the Crosshair once again. Saw a new bios release, installed it + using the exact same settings as with my Gigabyte board, seems to work so far. I'll continue testing...

Just a clean Win11 install + Firefox + chipset & GPU drivers so far. Youtube playing a video and Latencymon running. If it works after hours and some software installed, I'll install a clean Win11 install on my NVMe drive (put the test OS on a 120Gig drive)

edit: Put my old install to this and no problems. I get high latencies from ACPI but so far I hear no crackling or other issues with the audio when watching youtube.

I've seen reports on reddit that AGESA 1.2.0.A has fixed the EDC bug at last (It's possible it was fixed in 1.2.0.8, some boards skipped that release and went straight to A)
Considering users mention different boards throughout the thread, it seems like its globally fixed

Keep in mind latency spikes can be caused by a thousand things - this could be a mechanical hard drive slowly waking up, or a software issue (like effing wallpaper engine)

And an obvious thing too, is that when idle windows is going to smash out a ton of background tasks - just ran into that trying to check things on my ITX rig, as it downloaded an update, and then ran some cleanup processes only at idle.
Had to disable the screens sleep timer and leave task manager up on the screen to spot what was using power at idle.

3700x on air is doing well for itself, this is with R23 running
Gigabyte x370 Gaming 5, 3700x (ECO mode) 4x8GB SR 3200, GTX 1080
This PC has a niggling stability issue that i think is the GPU over long time periods, so i'm not working on the RAM or CPU tuning yet. This made it a bit unpleasant with VR, last person to game on it nearly vomited when it crashed.

ITX Aorus B550-I, 5800x + 3070 8GB are being finalized now - waiting on the results of BACON testing

The plan is for the ITX rig to be setup for wired and wireless VR streaming, so it can be dedicated to the Rift S, but also run my quest 2 over wifi if my main PC is busy or out of action.
Since i got the ram running at 3600 easily on the new BIOS, i'll aim for ECO mode with a curve undervolt and the ram at 3800, and the 3070 undervolted.
Previous testing had this CPU at around 80W and the GPU at 130W, more than easy to cool in ITX.

At least the problems didn't go away with my older install. I may do more research later but I went back to my B550 board as this works flawlessly..

Yep. Fixed 4.5 GHz base clock with no boost.

Try a fixed core overclock. It's what I do, and I can clock close to 5GHz before I start to get very many heat or stability issues. Still runs pretty darn cool.

That works too, I guess.

The third option that I thought of is lowering the TDP in the BIOS. That way I would keep at least my low-threaded boost clocks.

The fourth option is getting a 7800X3D, which doesn't only run cooler, but is also faster in games which could be useful later. Damn temptation!

I've just had a run with boost enabled, and TDP set to 95 W (128 W PPT), RAM still at 4800 MHz, 1.02 VSOC:

18,888 points (nice!) in Cinebench R23, which is a mere 1% lower than stock, while CPU temperature peaked at 91 °C. I think I'm good for the summer.

Next update on my "cool the 7700X in the summer" project: TDP at 65 W (88 W PPT) - The highest all-core turbo clock decreased from 5.1 to 4.8 GHz, and I lost 7% in Cinebench compared to stock (17.2k vs 19k points). CPU temp maxes out at 70 °C. I think I've found the new sweet spot.

When I had mine, the sweet spot for me was 95w TDP, -20 CO all core. That kept temps down and scores up. I think I had a pretty decent 7700x as well as it did 6000/CL30 at 1.02v SoC. Probably shouldn't have sold it.

Yeah, a 7700 non-X with a slightly higher max boost clock. Today I saw 74 degrees on it while Windows update was running. I guess it gets a bit warmer when the load isn't evenly distributed among the cores (which is still fine).

Yeah, single core loads tend to run hotter with the higher boost frequencies. Good thing is, you're still capped at 88w so still much cooler in the room.

Not really. Even at stock, it's been my 6750 XT that heated the room, not the 7700X. Chiplet CPUs don't make my rad/cooler as warm as monolithic ones do for some reason.

Oh. Well, I might buy a 7800X3D later out of pure curiosity, but I'll probably keep the 7700X in case something goes wrong.

My ITX rig is absurd with the 5800x and eco mode, currently only a -5 offset.

Gaming comes nowhere near the power limits, overall its less efficient than my 3D is - but the weak 240mm AIO cant get overloaded in summer with eco on

Got my grey X13 today (the one I wanted to cancel) and black X13 coming on Wednesday, I'll return the one that's is worse overall. By now pops should also be getting his T14s G2 (5825U)

Anyone have a clue why my 5800x is smashing latency values with C18 ram, when it was always much higher with the prior kit with similar latencies?
It's tuned now, but was still doing 60ns out of the box at 3600 c18

that's fixed, btw. latest windows updates caught the issue.

RAW data from input devices was being polled by many programs at once, instead of all receiving the same data - so anything with a cursor or clickies (overlays etc) multiplied the CPU usage, and high Hz rates added to the problem

The values changed moving the CPU between the boards, but if I'm an idiot and that USB toolkit has an old aida, that actually explains it all
