I'm gonna check it out. This went totally under my radar so far.

Oh gods yes please do, with the caveat that you're in for a lot of reading, but it's great reading. This is better than Planescape: Torment. Also, if you like me prefer to NOT have every line read to you there's an option for "Classic mode", which means that only the first few lines are voiced and the rest is just text and personally I very much prefer it that way.

But seriously, the writing is beyond a game, and so is the game. Don't go in as you would a Game, meaning min-maxing skills and mathematics and all that stuff one would use to BEAT the game. This is something to experience, not beat.

Oh yes I will be on classic mode fo sho then. I always read faster and most people talk too slow for my taste :D I'm one to skip or mute spoken dialogue quickly too if its not voiced very well. Reading is king.

I'm completely lost in System Shock and don't know where to turn...
Oh, I know, a walkthrough
Yeah I'm not doing that. Figured out how to activate the radiation shield yesterday. Great moments when you finally find that place you missed. Did I screw around for long? I don't know... I'm 7 hours played now and I've cleared Medical & Research and Reactor is nearly done, though apparently the radiation shield doesn't fix the radiation around the reactor... (don't spoil pls). Also cleared the initial stuff in Maintenance and found a laser sword, its awesome.

But yeah the pretty large degree of freedom after the first two levels is pretty interesting :D Easy to get lost into, for sure.

I'm about to play Riven (2024), wish me luck!
Me too. I hope I'm not too stupid for it right now, as my friend and I played it almost 30 years ago. I've tried one of the Myst remasters not so long ago, but that thing is just hardcore. Can't really remember how much different the Riven is, but I'm sure it ain't easy peasy. Let's check on those brain cells. :D

I have a rule - if I don't play a game in 3 months it gets uninstalled.

That's like throwing away tools or spare parts if you don't use them for three months.

JEDI SURVIVOR IS INCREDIBLE!!!!

I don't think I have had that much fun in a decade. the ending fights have left me fucking speechless. i was literally gasping and yelling through half of it, fuck me that was good.

10/10

my goty.

still not finished yet, im at a meditation point, but i know i am close to the end. just needed to catch my breath. absolutely one of the best final boss battles in the history of gaming. experience it at 120+ fps 1440p+ or don't experience it at all. cause holy fuck that was something else.

I was using my new hall effect stick controller

They keep introducing new controllers by the time you figure out if the last one was... Considering pre-order on this even though I'd rather the PS layout their XBOX controllers have

$$$ features that will never get used < refinement of physical elements and internals

Pretty much. I do back up the +100GB ones.

Finally starting to get far enough in Ghost of Tsushima frequency of random encounters and opponents require more attention. Granted I did 100% as much of the early game as possible. Greatly extending time reaching this point.

Considering another few dozen runs of FTL. That game is addictive even though it is technically badly designed.

No real point in doing that on a SSD though just wasting endurance writes. There is a performance angle somewhat with how full the drive, but doesn't seem worth the trade off to potential durability concerns around installing and uninstalling a lot of games based on playing habits. I mean it really depends I'm sure you know your own usage patterns best so if it works for you and makes sense fine. I've certainly left some stuff uninstalled to save space, but any game I might replay within a year I generally just keep installed.

Optane.

Durability isn't a concern of mine, and the drive has identical performance whether 99% full or completely empty.

My 990 Pro is for other media and work, I don't typically put games on it.

Reinstalling games isn't something I regularly do. It's either a singleplayer game and I've done everything there is to do, I've tried it, and found it's not very good, or it's a multiplayer game that is no longer interesting/fun.

If a game doesn't fit in the ~80 GB of space I have available on my Optane (12 GB Windows install and 30 GB of other stuff), then I might put it on the 990 Pro, but it's not common.

I tend to remove anything that's unused. Tools and backups are on an external disk.

I have the first version of that controller, it was 20 bucks as well, thats insane they are doing hall effect triggers and sticks for 20 bucks now... 30 for wireless. absolutely insane. shame on Nintendo/Sony/M$ for not having hall effect sticks in their 60+ dollar controllers.

I mean, i really like that peach color, and 20 bucks ain't shit these days. i might as well just to have an extra as backup. or if i get a gf who wants to co-op a game with me someday, i will be ready. get i can dream! i just wish the 30 dollar version had an easier battery popout section, some of their most expensive controllers have that, so when the battery starts to wear out you can pop in a new one easily. but hell for 30 bucks you can't beat it anyway

on topic: i didn't go to sleep last night, its 2pm, and im still binge playing Jedi Survivor. its just so fucking good. 10/10

so many little random quirks in this Jedi Survivor game, like one time this droid accidently shot his grenade at the back of another druid and he started juggling it, and the voice it made before detonation was pure gold.

thats only happened once, but thats what make it so great, there are loads of hidden gems like that in this game.

I'm starting to hate UE5. Nice lighting and textures, but FPS drops from 165 to 80 are just feel like playing at 30FPS in some of the scenes at the very start. Panning movements making terrible blur and latency as well. Microstutters...
Otherwise a great nostalgia setup, was nice to experience it again with my friend I've used to play the OG in the year 1998-99. I wonder how good is it in VR, when the FPS is all over the place.

Might be because UE5 makes pretty good use of RT and you're on RDNA 2.

It's still early days for UE5 though, developers need to learn it, and most games don't use the latest version either.

No it doesn't, UE5 uses lumen by default, and this game isn't RT-ed AFAIK. And please don't start with that narrative... I just made a minor observation on the game's performance on a fairly powerful rig. End of discussion.

just cap it to 60? (yeah i am one of those who don't see improvement above 100hz/fps and find a sweetspot in the 60-75 range ... )

Are you referring to Riven? Some micro stutters yes but overall it's smooth

It's not a narrative. I didn't know which UE5 game you were talking about, and Lumen uses hardware RT units if it can.

It's as simple as turning on a switch for the developer to enable RT.

Myst remake used RT, but I guess Riven doesn't.

Myst was UE4 though, so it's odd that had RT while UE5 game doesn't.

A little over half way through Uncharted 4.

The puzzles in these games are always hit or miss for me.
It's either blatantly obvious or I am hopelessly flummoxed
