i wish arctic was still doing gpu coolers, never any issues (besides fitting it on non compatible cards :D ),
were always silent at idle/low load, even the mid 2000s stuff using blower type cooler with small high rpm fan.

Today's thrift store find...

...a Sony Ericsson Xperia Play for $9.

20240113_213055_HDR.jpg

Also known as the PlayStation Phone.

I remember when this came out back in 2011, I thought it was pretty cool. At the time, I was addicted to my PSPgo.

This one was sold as "for parts," and initially, I couldn't get it to turn on with a 5V 1A power supply.

Plugging it into a more powerful charger made it come back to life.

The touchscreen seems to have intermittent issues, but the battery still holds a charge.

boys didnt keep me waiting long.

for £130 it feels fairly premium. I know the CPU in it is a bit of an old dog though because the first update is taking super long time. Like them memes on youtube where some dude finds an old Intel 386 machine and tries to install windows XP on it.

::EDIT::

Compared to my 2015 Nvidia shield K1 that was running a custom 8.1 rom. This tablet is obviously leaps ahead. It will play just about everything. Even 4k blu-ray rips albeit mxplayer resorts to software mode and a bit suttery.

Screen isnt too bad either. 1080p is pretty crisp compared to the shield. I can actually read some of the in game chat on some of the youtube videos I watch that would otherwise have been impossible to make out.

Audio wise its a few million steps forward and a few steps back. 4 speakers on the M10 vs the two on the Shield. Music sounds a lot more fuller and vibrant on the M10 but it lacks the punch that kick drums would give. The shield has some punch due to it having 'bass reflex' ports built in but the audio doesnt sound as full bodied as the M10. Dolby Atmos does a hell of a lot for the M10

Definitely a worthy upgrade.

Some minor annoyances being that the youtube app still only gives me 1080p and not 1440p which the tablet is capable of.

Why 4 bt speakers?
Each additional pair pass the first has a -50% depression effect.
I want to be able to surround myself and my people with sound anywhere.
These sound much better than they look, and you want at least a pair. Great battery, waterproof, rubberised case, app equilizer. Party cast, up to 100 can be paired (as said by manufacturer).
Still needs time for proper burn in.

I just bought a K70 on ebay from a charity. Sold as spares/repairs, came boxed with manuals...had a good feeling there was nothing wrong with it, except the missing + key on the num pad.

£19.99 delivered and £3 for a key cap. Works perfectly.

Should also get a 6700XT Nitro tomorrow. My guess is it's got a mining BIOS on it. Will reflash and test

This SSD is already rocking non-activated W10 22H2. Everything works exceptionally well, this system even feels faster than my main PC with W11 planted down on a Samsung PM981 NVMe SSD.

Didn't bother nitpick testing, so far so good.

Updating my workstation. Switching to Noctua Redux, all 120mm, so I needed some 120/140mm adapters. Case comes tomorrow. Phanteks 500a-the one iwth no fans. I also got another Thermalright brace, since im taking it all apart, might was well. Ill snap some pics of the finished build tomorrow night, depending on when UPS comes.

Update. 6700xt works fine. Didn't need a flash. Ad said it crashes when drivers are installed and would need a BIOS flash.

It runs SuperPosition on 1080p extreme on each BIOS absolutely fine. 65c under 100% load, fans at 50% (stock BIOS)

Clean install of latest driver.

Not bad for £200 del.

I have the need to knead speedily? (or the knead to need speedily?)
Philips (HR7962) Need to knead.jpg

Because I love to make cake and pies but kneading manually hurts my hands, so hence I bought the Philips HR7962.
Not as silent but mos definitely less painful and cleaner.

i wish arctic was still doing gpu coolers, never any issues (besides fitting it on non compatible cards :D ),
were always silent at idle/low load, even the mid 2000s stuff using blower type cooler with small high rpm fan.
Not necessary, modern cards run perfectly cool, and even have features such as the ability to remove the shroud to clean without disturbing thermal paste/pads etc.

Old gen cards benefitted, modern ones the only upgrade you want is moving to water for noise/OC reasons.

If you have an itch you can deshroud and run standard case fans.

I only did it for modding purposes. Stock fans were fine... until they ultimately died. I could buy the same stock fans and be cool but I decided to make it an art project. Fugly, brutal, yet it's still my art.

@dgianstefani
not always.
for me, even large copper HS and twin/triple fans still make too much noise for me on med loads,
and on lower end card (i use for others) its sometimes still cheaper if i switch the cooler (e.g. non alu HS). vs buying the next "better" cooled card.

Netgear Nighthawk X4S router for $35 off the local Craigslist. Mint condition, I've bought things from the seller before and they've all been like new. He even delivered it to me.

Ive done over a hundred builds over the years and I am less excited about this rebuild than I have ever been. Usually Im gitty just to get the packages. This time is different. Hopefully Ill get more into it as the build progresses.
