On my way to replacing my 3 WD Red 5400 spin drives with SSDs for my plex server.
2TB is for the OS drive, it'll also be used for hosting games my brother and I play - like 7 Days to Die and Valheim and whatever other online game we may come across - also as a fourth spot to back up digital photos/phone videos.
4TB is for replacing one of the 4TB spin drives that holds about 2.7TB of complete TV series. I need to get one more for the other 4TB spin drive that houses about 2TB of movies, but sadly MicroCenter couldn't find the 2nd 4TB MX500 they said they had in stock. Also, don't let the price tags fool you, I picked up the 2TB drive right at the start of December last year and it was only $79.99. The 4TB one I got today for $206.99 (nearly $100 cheaper than the next 4TB model they have in stock from either Samsung or WD, I forget without looking). The 4TB was $10 cheaper in December, but the two they showed they had on hand back then they couldn't find....at least I got one this time around!
If the MB my plex server was running had a spot for a M.2 I'd get one, but sadly it doesn't. So I'm stuck with needing 2.5" SSDs.
I went ahead and got the drives installed to format them so I can copy data over to them. After I turned the server back on Windows 10 is doing a fricking auto update! Son of a.... That's one of the reasons I need to get off the spin drive as the OS drive because at 5400RMP on these WD Reds I'm using it took almost 2 hours for the update to install and it literally just finished as I was typing this post out.
Time to format and let data copy from one spin drive to the 4TB and let it run as I head to bed.
