What's your latest tech purchase?

Got bitten by the curiosity bug again. A year ago on A770 it was kind of rough with annoying bugs (OS-wide sound crackling all the time anyone?), let's see how good or bad the experience is now.
I would like to try A770 16GB. Gives me the same vibe as a 5700XT when it came out.

Not a purchase, but something cooler: Some time ago I bought an old Fractal Design Refine R4, for not much money. The USB 2.0 ports on the top were busted, but whatever. No big deal. Recently I started looking for a spare USB thing, and ended up mailing Fractal and ask if they were selling spare parts. The answer I got was basically "send the serial number and I'll send a new one", and they did. It's a decade old case, bought used, and they just sent out a spare part, no questions asked. That's how you do PR.

Ordered a new cable modem Arris Surfboard S33 32x8 channel bonding 2.5Gbps WAN + 1 Gbps WAN port as well for some kind of later performance expansion possibilities. Technician had to be sent to the house from ISP to fixing signal integrity issue outside the house, but download speeds are drastically improved. At best it was getting about 128Mbps previously on older DOCSIS 3.0 cable modem and now is about 375Mbps DL though UL speeds haven't really changed.

Sorry that these are in Finnish, but..

2nd times a charm!

Retailer's website glitched the first time and payment didnt go through. Although paypal registered the transaction on the dashboard I wanted to wait and see if paypal would take my money first before attempting my purchase again. The last thing I need in life is being charged twice and chasing paypal for a refund. (I guess the transaction timed out due to the retailers website glitching out and it was deleted from my transaction history after a day with no further action taken so here we are with the second attempt at a purchase)

Its the 3rd Gen tablet - despite what GSMArena says. The retailer lists it as having a Snapdragon 680 processor.

Im half annoyed because I could have gone and picked it up today or saturday as they actually had stock ready for collection. Im busy monday so fingers crossed they'll have some for collection before then.

On my way to replacing my 3 WD Red 5400 spin drives with SSDs for my plex server.

20240111_214410.jpg

2TB is for the OS drive, it'll also be used for hosting games my brother and I play - like 7 Days to Die and Valheim and whatever other online game we may come across - also as a fourth spot to back up digital photos/phone videos.

4TB is for replacing one of the 4TB spin drives that holds about 2.7TB of complete TV series. I need to get one more for the other 4TB spin drive that houses about 2TB of movies, but sadly MicroCenter couldn't find the 2nd 4TB MX500 they said they had in stock. Also, don't let the price tags fool you, I picked up the 2TB drive right at the start of December last year and it was only $79.99. The 4TB one I got today for $206.99 (nearly $100 cheaper than the next 4TB model they have in stock from either Samsung or WD, I forget without looking). The 4TB was $10 cheaper in December, but the two they showed they had on hand back then they couldn't find....at least I got one this time around!

If the MB my plex server was running had a spot for a M.2 I'd get one, but sadly it doesn't. So I'm stuck with needing 2.5" SSDs.

I went ahead and got the drives installed to format them so I can copy data over to them. After I turned the server back on Windows 10 is doing a fricking auto update! Son of a.... That's one of the reasons I need to get off the spin drive as the OS drive because at 5400RMP on these WD Reds I'm using it took almost 2 hours for the update to install and it literally just finished as I was typing this post out.

Time to format and let data copy from one spin drive to the 4TB and let it run as I head to bed.

@neatfeatguy
even if its not m.2, at least your IOPs are times better.
iirc, those have build in power loss protection, good ide on a storage rig.

Just my habit to translate them anyway :D
It's appreciated. I think I read somewhere that Finnish isn't related to ANY other language on Earth!

Couple of fans to make my 3d printer a bit quieter. Had to get a buck converter too to switch from 24v from the printer to 12v for the fans.

What I've heard that it's a hard language to learn for foreigners?

Well, I've set a mission to myself, to learn the basics of Korean that I'll learn in 2024 so even with my ok English, I'll still have a language to learn.

Noctua in 3D Printers are not that great idea. There sunon are a much better choice. ;)

These are quiet/er than stock. Why use sunon?

They have the power i.e. to cool the hotend/Model(Print area) at FDM. They also offer 24V fans. One doon't need to speed up to full rpm's. So they keep more quiet. The are real reliable. They have a higher quality...

I think the nocs are good enough quality. i have ordered now so will try them and see how they go. I have also printed myself a better hotend cover, so am gonna try that and the new 40mm fan. The 80mm is for the bottom of the printer, the stock one makes more noise than the smaller hot end fan.

I went to goodwill with Mom. Found this brand new sealed and got %25 off too. The rare tech bargains always excite.

I wish we had Goodwill up here. Our major thrift chain, Value Village, is notorious these days for having horrible value.

Valueless village. I feel you. I go sometimes without any intention to get stuff, but i do come across decent things like keyboards and decent monitors. I got a wii once for like 19 complete.

@FoulOnWhite
while good quality, noctua is not close to decent value to me,
compared to arctic doing the same everything "~10% less", at sometimes 1/3 the price,
while some even offer longer warranty than noctua, and no need for adapters etc.
and short of the multipacks, didnt have any problems with life (bearing getting noisy).

and for 24V stuff, look at blacknoise/noiseblocker, they actually do real industrial stuff,
including IP55 fans..
while maybe not as quiet vs noctua on stock rpm, i never had any BN/NB fans that didnt allow throttling/fan curve control.

24V

This for my 1080Ti FE cause no way in hell will I install the original cooler.
