Windows 11 24H2 is driving people to Linux

If you know me you know I have already spoken on WIn 11 since the latest update. Well you have not heard anything yet.


1. Sleep is totally broken for me. I actually changed the Power plan in Windows to never go to sleep and yet my screen still freezes. How the hell can that be happening.
2. AMD software keeps resetting. I have to regularly reset my fan profile
3. Playing City Skylines 2, first thing that happened was my save was corrupted that I had to start a new one
4. Gamepass once again wants me to re-download Forza 7 a Game that I own
5. They have gone to a full subscription model. I have said this before I have 2 hotmail accounts and MS wanted me to a minimum of $3 a month to maintain the 2nd box.

For the past week I have been reading up on Linux distros. I like the potential of Bazzite.

This is old data, but even then, I question how reliable it used to be, since it's likely to be collected through browser user agents and...

The rise of retrofitted browsers like Supermium that artificially extend Windows XP, Vista and 7's browsing capabilities will also report Windows 10 as the host OS; so in general, there may be a lot more Windows 11-based computers out there than the data points out to.

24H2 is fine. It's easily the best release of 11 so far. Sure, it's no Windows 7 and it's certainly no Mac OS X Snow Leopard - we're in dire need of that type of OS being released again - but it's safe to say, it's not coming back.

This is a quite extreme opinion. Yeah, maybe 11 42H2 is stable, but Windows 10 is more stable, more feature-rich, more user-friendly and more convenient for use.
As of now there are no reasons to move away from Windows 10, other than some paper shenanigans, which make you think is obsolete.
It is not.

And even worse for Microsoft, if it doesn't rethink its dictatorship strategy to push new releases down people's throats against their will, things will become very bad for it.

No, it is not, nor is it an extreme opinion, it's simple statement of fact. Windows 11 has workflow consistency issues (largely remediable, although I agree you shouldn't have to do it), but it is stable. I'm also unaware of any important features that Windows 10 has that Windows 11 does not. The OS is largely the same, you're caught up in a mental trap of marketing and branding. Windows 10 and Windows 11 are one in the same, it's just that they stopped releasing Windows 10-branded builds after 2022. It's still Windows NT 10 underneath; the same OS you've been using since 2015.

If anything, the Windows 11 branding was introduced to signify the fact that Microsoft intends to drop support for older hardware and has slowly but surely implemented checks (which could largely be bypassed) and then coded in instructions that older chips can't run. Over a decade later? Reasonable.

Regarding the topic: No, Linux does not "check" if your hardware is "up to date", as in "your hardware does not support our spyware, so please spend $/€ so we can more easily check your "usecase"".

I'd be surprised if open source software had any reason to spy on you - but really, the fearmongering is insane.

Maybe. But only if we set aside the fact that OG i3 CPU's can run Windows 11(debloated) in a reasonable fashion. It's not super snappy, but it is smooth and doable as long as you have an SSD and at least 8GB of RAM.

Microsoft is removing a number of built-in Windows apps from the OS image. Starting with this release, Cortana, Mail, Calendar, Maps, People, and Movies & TV will no longer be installed by default. WordPad will also be removed in a future update.

I wonder what's left in this pathetic windows 11 after these removals...

The vast majority of PCs in service globally are using these "older" chips. Even Ryzen 2000 is one of these.
The restrictions won't make the owners spend huge amounts of cash to upgrade. It's not worth it.

Only global class-action law-suits would wake up Microsoft and save the world from its monopolistic behaviour.

I doubt anyone truly loves Windows, but it is what it is. And people won't leave it for an even more convoluted "free software solution", Linux has been around forever and it's safe to say that the only way it goes mainstream is if Microsoft ceases to exist overnight. I just have to call you out on this though, it seems you are fiercely opposed to Windows 11 but you have not given it an honest shot, not even remotely so.

Ms doesnt care like they did after the flack they got for vistas poor performance, 7 was their best OS, and the assholes tried burrying it to push 10 on us, and I hate 10 to this day.

I had to leave Fedora in my laptop because while idle power consumption was lower, 2.5w Vs 3.5w in 24H2, WiFi power consumption spikes were much higher, 12w Vs 9w each time the module transferred something.

It's most likely because of the Realtek drivers in the kernel, but that's reason enough to force me to stick to Windows for now, and 24H2 uses much less power than previous Windows versions.

Some other priorities have (clearly) overtaken market satisfaction/needs.

Windows 7 was "Hi I'm Vista, but I'm all better now", and I have to give kudos to MSFT for managing to successfully 'rebrand' the product as new, and make it desirable.
Conversely, Windows 10's "push" was trendsetting for what was to come...

About when 11 started getting pushed, I left the Consumer branch/channel of Windows to get away from (some of) what MS is forcing onto end users. At least LTSC will never auto-upgrade to 11, or pester me for such.

Though, the Steam Deck showed me that 'Linux' is a competent Desktop OS now, I am and will continue to be primarily a Windows 10 user.
(probably until 2032, when 10.Ent.IoT.LTSC.2021 finally senesces-out of support).

Android is not a desktop OS, that is supported by AMD and Intel.
