ASUS Reveals 500 Hz ROG Swift Esports Monitor With E-TN Panel and G-Sync

Back in 2012, ASUS released the world's first ever 144 Hz monitor, and we've been chasing high refresh rates ever since. From the first 240 Hz NVIDIA G-SYNC display we released in 2017 to the first 360 Hz display in 2020, ROG is committed to pushing competitive gaming to new heights at every opportunity. Now, we're ecstatic to announce that we've done it again: introducing the ROG Swift 500 Hz, a groundbreaking new gaming monitor that refreshes 500 times per second, for the most fluid, fast-paced motion you'll find in modern Esports.

In competitive, intense firefights, every single millisecond counts. The ROG Swift 500 Hz draws frames more than eight times faster than typical 60 Hz displays in a single second, which means you have that much more time to get a leg up on your opponent in esports titles like Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, Valorant, Overwatch, and Rainbow Six Siege. With super low response times and unprecedented improvements in input lag, the ROG Swift 500 Hz is the new benchmark in Esports, offering the same competitive advantage that made its 360 Hz predecessor the official display at last year's DOTA 2 The International championship. The ROG Swift 500 Hz features a 24.1-inch Full HD (1920x1080) panel, allowing your GPU to push as many frames as possible. ROG was able to push refresh rates to the limit by using new Esports TN (E-TN) technology, which offers 60% better response times than standard TN panels, allowing us to reach a new milestone in speed and clarity.

MediaTek Launches First mmWave Chipset for Seamless 5G Smartphone Connectivity

MediaTek today announced the Dimensity 1050 system-on-chip [SoC], its first mmWave 5G chipset that will power the next generation of 5G smartphones with seamless connectivity, displays, gaming and power efficiency. Through dual connectivity using mmWave and sub-6 GHz, the Dimensity 1050 will deliver the speeds and capacity required to provide smartphone users with an incredible experience, even in some of the most densely populated areas. The Dimensity 1050 combines mmWave 5G and sub-6 GHz to fluidly migrate between network bands, and is built on the ultra-efficient TSMC 6 nm production process with an octa-core CPU. Supporting 3CC carrier aggregation on sub-6 (FR1) spectrum and 4CC carrier aggregation on mmWave (FR2) spectrum, the Dimensity 1050 will be capable of delivering up to 53 percent faster speeds and greater reach to smartphones compared to LTE + mmWave aggregation alone. The SoC integrates two premium Arm Cortex-A78 CPUs with speeds reaching 2.5 GHz and the latest Arm Mali-G610 graphics engine.

"The Dimensity 1050, and its combination of sub-6 GHz and mmWave technologies, will deliver end-to-end 5G experiences, uninterrupted connectivity and superior power efficiency to meet everyday user demands," said CH Chen, Deputy General Manager of Wireless Communications Business Unit at MediaTek. "With faster, more reliable connections, and advanced camera technology this chip delivers powerful features to help device makes to differentiate their smartphone product lines." In addition to 5G optimizations, the Dimensity 1050 offers Wi-Fi optimizations alongside MediaTek's HyperEngine 5.0 gaming technology to ensure lower-latency connections with the new tri-band - 2.4 GHz, 5 GHz and 6 GHz - that extends game time and performance. Additionally, high-end UFS 3.1 storage and LPDDR5 memory ensure ultra-fast data streams to accelerate apps, social feeds and faster FPS in games.

AOC and Porsche Design Launches Agon Pro PD32M Mini-LED Display

AOC has launched a new gaming monitor under its Agon Pro brand and the PD32M has been designed in cooperation with Porsche Design, which for clarity's sake, isn't the same company as the car manufacturer. The PD32M is based on a "frameless" 32-inch 4K 144 Hz capable mini-LED display and carries a Display HDR 1400 certification, with a peak brightness of 1600 nits. It is also said to deliver 97 percent of the DCI-P3 colour space, which would make it a decent display for work as well as play. The display also supports Adaptive Sync, but it's unclear if it's FreeSync or G-Sync compatible.

On the connectivity side there are a pair of HDMI 2.1 ports, one DisplayPort, presumably of the 1.4 variety, one USB-C, although no mention of display input via USB-C is mentioned, as well as a USB-C four USB-A 3.2 (most likely 10 Gbps) ports and a headphone jack. Based on the picture of the rear of the PD32M, there also appears to be a couple of additional 3.5 mm jacks and another port of unknown type around the back. It's also clear from this picture that an external power brick is being used, although AOC hasn't provided any details about it.

Dell Launches Pair of New 32-inch Gaming Monitors

Dell has launched a pair of very similar looking 32-inch gaming monitors, but looks can be deceiving as they say. The two models are the G3223Q and G3223D, with the G3223Q sporting a 4K 144 Hz Fast IPS panel, with the G3223D also using a Fast IPS panel, but dropping the resolution to 2560 x 1440 while upping the refresh rate to 165 Hz. The G3223D is only rated for HDR 400, while the G3223Q gets HDR 600 support, although both appear to be edge-lit panels. Other common features include a 1 ms response time (grey-to-grey), a contrast ratio of 1000:1 and a 95 percent DCI-P3 colour gamut.

Both monitors support AMD FreeSync, but the G3223D is also NVIDIA G-Sync certified. As far as connectivity goes, the G3223D offers a pair of HDMI 2.0 ports, a DP 1.4 port, a USB-C port with DP-Alt mode and 15 W power delivery, as well as two downstreams USB 3.2 Gen 1 (5 Gbps) ports and a 3.5 mm headphone jack. The G3223Q on the other hand has a pair of HDMI 2.1 ports, one DP 1.4 port, a USB 3.2 Gen 1 (5 Gbps) Type-B port, as well as two downstreams USB 3.2 Gen 1 ports and a headphone jack. Both displays come with stands that support height, swivel and tilt adjustment. Dell is asking for US$719.99 for the G3223D, which is available from today in most markets and US$1,099.99 for the G3223Q which will be available at the end of this month in most markets.

AOC Launches 43-inch 4K 144 Hz HDR 1000 Gaming Display

The large screen gaming market has grown by yet another model in the shape of the AOC G4309VX/D, which is built around a 43-inch VA panel with a resolution of 3840 x 2160. The display is rated at HDR 1000, although the peak SDR brightness lands at 720 cd/m², which is still very bright considering the size of the display.

The refresh rate tops out at 144 Hz and the response time is said to be 1 ms, via the DP 1.4 port using DSC or the two HDMI 2.1 ports. There's support for adaptive sync and motion blur reduction, which should make this a good choice for both PC and console gaming. The G4309VX/D also features four USB 3.0 ports, or USB 3.2 gen 1 if you prefer. It should be noted that there appears to be two different versions of this display, with the G4309VX currently selling for around US$1,300 in Taiwan, but it lacks HDMI 2.1, although the rest of the spec appears to be near identical. No word on pricing for the G4309VX/D as yet, but we'd expect it to end up in a similar price bracket.

MediaTek Announces Flagship Dimensity 9000 5G SoC on TSMC 4 nm

A few years ago, MediaTek decided to leave the high-end mobile device SoC space as it decided to focus on the mid-range and entry level market, but as of today, that is no longer the case. The company has announced its new flagship Dimensity 9000 SoC and it packs all the latest cutting edge mobile SoC features you'd expect to see.

The Dimensity 9000 is based entirely on the new Arm v9 architecture and the chip itself is built in TSMC's 4 nm node, which gives MediaTek a lead on all its competitors, but Apple. As for the Arm cores in question, the main core is a Cortex-X2 at 3.05 GHz, which is accompanied by three Cortex-A710 cores at 2.85 GHz and four power efficient Cortex-A510 cores at 1.8 GHz. All of these new Arm cores were only announced at the end of May this year, so MediaTek has clearly been burning the midnight oil to get the Dimensity 9000 out before its competitors' new chips based on the Arm v9 architecture.

ViewSonic Launches 28-inch 150 Hz 4K Monitor with PS5 Support

ViewSonic's new VX2882-4KP seems to be the 4K gaming monitor for those looking for a no-nonsense design, as it could be mistaken for a Dell office monitor. That said, not everyone is keen on the over the top designs some gaming monitors of late have featured, so it's nice to see something a bit more normal here, especially for those that use their PC for more than just gaming.

Unfortunately the only stand-out spec is the 150 Hz refresh rate, which lands somewhere between most 144 Hz 4K monitors and the two or three that can do 160 Hz. It's not an overclock setting in this case, as it's the official refresh rate of the VX2882-4KP. ViewSonic went for an IPS panel here, although it only has a brightness of 300 nits, which is not as impressive as much of its competition, neither is the HDR10 rating.

Gigabyte Launches the M32U 4K Gaming Monitor

The M32U will be Gigabyte's fifth gaming monitor and the second not to carry the Aorus brand. Design wise it looks identical to the M32Q and the specs are very similar too, as both monitors rely on a super speed IP panel that measures 31.5-inches. The big difference here is obviously the resolution, as the M32U sports a 4K 3840x2160 panel and this time it seems like the backlight has improved slightly, as we're looking at an HDR400 certification, even though both models deliver a typical brightness of 350cd/m².

On the other hand, colour saturation isn't quite as good at 90% DCI-P3 or 123% sRGB, even though this is an 8-bit + FRC panel rather than an 8-bit panel for the M32Q. The refresh rate is up to 144 Hz for PCs and 120 Hz for consoles, with a 1 ms MPRT response time. Inputs consist of two HDMI 2.1 ports, one DisplayPort 1.4 with DSC and a USB-C port with DP-Alt mode. The display also has one USB 3.0 type-B input and three type-A outputs and a headphone jack and as with previous Gigabyte displays, this one supports KVM functionality. Finally we have a pair of built in 3 W speakers. No word on pricing or availability.

XMG Announces APEX Laptop Family with up to Ryzen 9 5900HX and GeForce RTX 3070 Processors

With the 15.6 and 17.3 inch XMG APEX gaming laptops, XMG is positioning a new model series below its own high-end range consisting of the NEO and PRO series. These new laptops combine mobile AMD eight-core processors up to the Ryzen 9 5900HX with NVIDIA GeForce RTX graphics cards up to the RTX 3070. The company is simultaneously introducing the XMG FOCUS, a new product series in the entry-level segment. Intel's Core i7-11800H and an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3050 Ti offer decent gaming performance, while good connectivity and memory round off the overall package. All four new models feature an IPS display with 144 Hz.

Until now, the XMG APEX 15 in the older E20 generation represented uncompromising desktop CPU performance, with processors up to the Ryzen 9 3950X in a laptop. Although XMG is already working on a direct successor under a slightly different name, it is unleashing the XMG APEX 15 and APEX 17 of the M21 generation for the time being with the currently fastest eight-core mobile processors from AMD. The laptops are available with an AMD Ryzen 7 5800H as well as with the slightly faster Ryzen 9 5900HX from the 54 watt TDP class, as well as with an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 or RTX 3060 in the respective maximum TGP configuration (RTX 3070: 125 watts plus 15 watts Dynamic Boost 2.0; RTX 3060: 115 watts plus 15 watts Dynamic Boost 2.0).

AGON by AOC Announces PRO E-Sports Monitors AG324UX and AG274FZ

MSI Optix MPG321UR-QD 4K 144Hz Monitor Launches in Japan

4K gaming monitors that are hitting 144 Hz or more seems to be a thing this year and not to miss out on its chance to get its share of the market, MSI has launched the Optix MPG321UR-QD in Japan, with the rest of the world likely to follow soon. The display was actually announced back in June, alongside a range of other new displays from MSI, but is only making it into retail by the end of this month.

MSI is using a quantum dot IPS panel with a resolution of 3840x2160 that offers a DCI-P3 colour gamut coverage of 97 percent. The 32-inch screen supports a refresh rate of 144 Hz, a response time of 1ms (MPRT) and is G-Sync compatible. It also sports a Display HDR 600 certification, which suggests that it has some kind of zoned backlighting. Inputs consist of two HDMI 2.1 ports, a DisplayPort 1.4a port and a USB-C port which has DP-alt mode support.

Philips Launches "Designed for Xbox 4K" Gaming Display with Ambiglow

After the introduction of the current generation of consoles, we've started to see more and more monitors with console support and now Philips has joined the fray with its new 279M1RV 4K, 144 Hz, 27-inch gaming display. It might carry a "Designed for Xbox" logo, but using HDMI 2.1 with a console limits it to 120 Hz and you really need a high-end gaming PC to get the most out of it.

Philips is using an LG Nano IPS panel that covers 98% of the DCI-P3 colour gamut, a contrast ratio of 1000:1, 1 ms gray to gray typical response time and 178 degree viewing angles. The display is also HDR 600 certified, although the typical brightness is 450 cd/m². It's also G-Sync compatible, with a slightly disappointing range of 60-144 Hz, which is limited to the DP port. VRR (Variable Refresh Rate) and FRL (Fixed Rate Link) are both supported over HDMI 2.1, but ALLM (Auto Low Latency Mode) and QFT (Quick Frame Timing) seems to be absent.
