G4 Evacuated in bomb threat scare

Everyone is a little on-the-edge this week, for pretty blatant reasons. G4 is no exception. When a suspicious package arrived at G4 production offices, everyone was evacuated from the building. The authorities were called, and the package was inspected by a bomb squad. Thankfully, the device was not an explosive. Ironically, G4 production offices had called the bomb squad about a bomb prop that they had ordered. G4 office workers were allowed to get back to work the same day of the incident.

BlizzCon 2007 on August 3rd/4th - ticket costs 100USD

IRVINE, Calif. - April 12, 2007 - Blizzard Entertainment, Inc. today announced plans for its second BlizzCon gaming convention. BlizzCon is a celebration of the Warcraft, StarCraft, and Diablo franchises and the players who have helped make them so popular around the world. This year's event will take place at the Anaheim Convention Center in Anaheim, California on August 3 and 4, and will feature various activities for attendees to take part in.

AMD/Microsoft Tech Tour 2007 visited

As we pointed out earlier AMD in close collaboration with Microsoft and many other companies holds a tech tour this year which started in Tampa, Florida, on April 10th. The tour will stop by in several cities around the United States and you can register for it at the official AMD/Microsoft Tech Tour website.

Games Convention will be bigger than ever this year

The Games Convention in Leipzig, Germany will be held from the 23rd of August until the 26th this year. The available floor will be raised by a whooping 28 percent to 115.000m². In addition, the exterior between buildings will be used as well. Visitors will also have two additional hours to take a look at everything, as the it will be open until 8 pm on Friday the 24th of August.

World Cyber Games Championship finished

Sunday evening, the grand finale of the WCG Championship took place at CeBIT. The winners are as follows:

CeBIT gaming tournament

Those of you at the event will know that CeBIT, for the third time, hosts the World Cyber Games gaming tournament, which starts today. More than 250 best gamers from 30 Nations are there. Gamers can compete in games like Counter-Strike, WarCraft III (The Frozen Throne), FIFA 2007, Dead or Alive 4 (XBOX) and others. The finale is scheduled for Sunday.

Samsung, the main sponsor of the event, will hand over 100 000 Euro to the best player!

Silicon Valley And World Leaders To Partner, Bring Technology To Developing Countries

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., Feb. 28, 2007 - Members of a special United Nations group met today with Silicon Valley leaders to explore how the technology industry, government and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) can come together to bolster development around the world.

Intel Corporation and the U.N.'s Global Alliance for Information and Communications Technology and Development (U.N. GAID) jointly organized the summit. Intel Chairman Craig Barrett, who also chairs the U.N. GAID, said the meeting provided a critical platform for sharing ideas and forging partnerships among prominent members of government, the international development community and Silicon Valley's businesses, academia and the venture capital industry.

In the year 2000 Apple Computer, Inc. let the world know, that after 10 years attending CeBIT it won't exhibit anything at the show anymore. Now, seven years later, they finally agreed to have their own booth at this year's world's biggest exhibition.

Update: Surprisingly the situation changed a little, Apple won't have a booth but will be part of the lifestyle@CeBIT event.

Rambus to Demonstrate High-speed Interface Technologies at DesignCon 2007

Rambus will demonstrate its most recent implementation in the PLAYSTATION 3 computer entertainment system, the XDR memory architecture at this year's DesignCon 2007. Rambus demos, displays and presentations include: XDR memory architecture with data rates ranging from 3.2-8.0GHz, FlexIO&trade' processor bus offering data rates of 400 MHz to 8.0GHz, DDR technology performing memory transactions to and from a DDR2 device operating at 800Mbps (400MHz clock), Rambus Gen2 solution compliant with PCI Express base specification and LabStation bring-up debug and characterization tool. NVIDIA did not present any new technology at CES 2007

While AMD/ATI presented a lot of interesting things at CES 2007 (such as an R600 prototype), NVIDIA had nothing there except for three closed-to-public booths. There is much speculation as to why NVIDIA did not show off any new technology (excluding working G80 drivers for Vista), but chances are they want to show a lot more stuff at a later trade show.

Apple introduces the iPhone at Macworld 2007

Everyone has been waiting for this one - the Apple iPhone. It actually uses a wide screen display and touch screen with multi finger gestures. The device will run Mac OS X. 8GB memory serve as storage for your iTunes, contacts and all the usual data. You can also take pictures using the 2 megapixel camera and it is very thin: 11.6 mm. You can listen to your music through the speaker or use normal head phones. The display is incredibly dense: 160ppi. The device has sensors which detect if you put your ear to the phone, what kind of light sitation you are in and if you are holding the iPhone horizontal or landscape. The device uses quad-band GSM + EDGE. So no 3G/UMTS services, but it has WiFi and bluetooth.

IDG World Expo Announces the Official Name of its Newest Event

IDG World Expo today announced the official name of its newest event: Entertainment for All Expo (E for All Expo), scheduled for October 18-20, 2007, at the Los Angeles Convention Center. The name replaces "GamePro Expo" - a placeholder while the company held a naming contest. More than 3000 entries were submitted on popular video game site GamePro.com. The winning entry was proposed by California resident Dante Padre. E for All Expo will offer consumers the opportunity to test-drive the latest in games and gadgetry, as well as purchase products they enjoyed over the course of the 3-day event at on-site retail facilities. Additional attractions are in the works, including high-profile videogame tournaments; job fair/networking opportunities; family-friendly offerings; and the acclaimed Video Games Live concert. Macintosh to release iLife '07 at MacWorld Expo 2007

Amazon.com has listed the iLife 2007, a suite of software for the Mac OS X 10 operating system, as "coming soon". Last year's iLife '06 featured iPhoto, iMovie, iDVD, GarageBand and iWeb. This years suite should feature a similar suite, with the updated versions of said programs. Apple will release this suite in single user and family pack versions, with compatibility for both PowerPC and Intel Macintosh computers.

Game Developers Choice Awards 2007 Now Open for Nominations

Nominations are now being accepted for the 2007 Game Developers Choice Awards, the seventh annual presentation of the most prestigious honors in videogame development. Nominations can be submitted through here until January 12, 2007. The awards ceremony, to take place Wednesday, March 7, 2007 during CMP Technology's Game Developers Conference (GDC), is produced by the GDC and presented by the International Game Developers Association (IGDA).
