EVGA Announces Z490 DARK and Z490 FTW Motherboards

EVGA today announced its flagship socket LGA1200 motherboard, the Z490 DARK, aimed at PC enthusiasts and professional overclockers. The company also announced its Z490 FTW and Z490 FTW WiFi motherboards targeted at high-end gaming PC builds. The Z490 DARK leads the pack with a 90° CCW rotated compute stage, which sees its memory area moved to the northern side of the PCB; and the CPU VRM to its west and south, cooled by elaborate heatsinks. There is only one DIMM slot per memory channel, so you don't bother about memory slot topology affecting your memory overclock.

The LGA1200 package is wired to two reinforced PCI-Express 3.0 x16 slots (x8/x8 with both populated). Storage connectivity includes two M.2 NVMe slots, and one U.2 port (some lane sharing involved). The board draws power from a combination of 24-pin ATX, two 8-pin EPS, and a 6-pin PCIe power connectors. The EVGA Z490 FTW (and its WiFi) variant feature a more conventional ATX layout, and targeted at conventional gaming PC builds. A premium 11-phase VRM powers the processor, which is wired to four DDR4 DIMM slots, and a pair of PCI-Express 3.0 x16 slots. Both boards offer dual-BIOS, and elaborate onboard diagnostics.

EVGA Introduces the GeForce RTX 2080 & 2070 SUPER KO Graphics Cards

EVGA today announced availability of their GeForce RTX 2080 & 2070 SUPER KO graphics cards. Much like their original RTX 2060 KO graphics card, which came in an attractive price point that undercut NVIDIA's own $299 MSRP for the graphics card, the new graphics cards also carry a new, lower price point than the company's (previous) cheapest offerings, the Black series. The EVGA GeForce RTX 2070 SUPER KO will be retailing for $499.99 (2560 CUDA cores, 1770 MHz Boost Clock, 8 GB GDDR6 memory @ 14 GHz over a 256-bit bus), while the EVGA GeForce RTX 2080 SUPER KO (3072 CUDA cores, 1815 MHz Boost Clock, 8 GB GDDR6 memory @ 15.5 GHz over a 256-bit bus) can be had for $699.99. This is a lower pricing than most competitor's offerings in this market for a custom-designed RTX 2070 SUPER or RTX 2080 SUPER.

To achieve this pricepoint, some cuts have had to be made. The cards ship without a backplate, and the cooling solution seems to be slightly less dense than the company's other, more expensive designs based on NVIDIA's chips. The PCB in these graphics cards is a custom design - and going to the trouble of redesigning what was an originally beefy engineering feat means that some cuts were likely done in this area as well. The new SUPER KO graphics cards also drop the Virtual Link port, featuring only 3x DisplayPort and 1x HDMI as display outputs. EVGA's Precision X1 overclocking utility is bundled with the graphics cards.

The larger fan and carefully tuned profile creates a quieter experience than the B3 power supplies.

ASUS Unveils GeForce RTX 2060 DUAL Mini, Possible RX 5600 XT and EVGA KO Competitor

ASUS unveiled the GeForce RTX 2060 DUAL Mini series, a new pair of RTX 2060 graphics cards purpose-built to compete with AMD Radeon RX 5600 XT, and possibly priced to match the EVGA RTX 2060 KO. The series consists of two otherwise identical looking cards differentiated with clock speeds - the reference speed "DUAL-RTX2060-6G-MINI," and the slightly overclocked "DUAL-RTX2060-O6G-MINI." The DUAL Mini common board design measures 19.7 cm in length, 12.1 cm height, and is strictly 2-slot thick. Under the hood is PCB that's built to cost, and probably repurposing the company's GTX 1660 Ti series PCBs, since the TU116 and TU106 are pin-compatible.

The cooling solution of the ASUS RTX 2060 DUAL Mini features an aluminium fin-stack heatsink that makes direct contact with the GPU at the base; ventilated by a pair of 90 mm Axial-Tech fans that are designed to guide all their airflow axially. The impellers of these fans feature IP5X dust-resistance coating. The card also offers idle fan-stop feature. As mentioned earlier, the base RTX 2060 DUAL Mini ticks at NVIDIA reference clock speeds, while the DUAL Mini O6G offers overclocked speeds of 1365 MHz base and 1725 MHz GPU Boost (vs. reference speeds of 1365/1680 MHz). The memory clock is untouched on both cards, at 14 Gbps (GDDR6 effective). The card draws power from a single 8-pin PCIe power connector. Display outputs include one each of dual-link DVI-D, HDMI 2.0b, and DisplayPort 1.4 connectors. The cards don't appear to feature a back-plate. We expect the DUAL Mini to be priced at USD $299, and the DUAL Mini O6G at a $20-30 premium.

EVGA Unveils BA and B5 Series Mainstream PSUs at CES

EVGA unveiled a pair of entry-thru-mainstream power supply series at CES 2020. These include the BA series at the very bottom of EVGA's pile, an the B5 series that combines a mainstream feature set with some aspirational features such as fully modular cabling. The BA series will eventually replace the BR series. We spotted a 600 W model, although the lineup could include 450 W, 500 W, and 600 W models. The BA is 80 Plus Bronze certified, and features a single +12V rail design, along with fixed, sleeved cabling that includes flat black ribbon-type cables for all connectors except the 24-pin ATX and 4+4 pin EPS.

The B5 series is slightly more upscale, in that it features fully modular cabling, and comes in capacities of up to 750 W. The B5 series succeeds the B3 series from the current product stack, and comes with updated innards, and possibly a quieter 135 mm fan. The 750 W model includes two 8-pin EPS connectors, in addition to four 6+2 pin PCIe power. EVGA is backing both the BA and B5 series with 5-year warranties.

EVGA RTX 2060 KO Already Price-Matched with RX 5600 XT SEP at $279

EVGA's cost-effective GeForce RTX 2060 KO graphics card debuted at CES, at an attractive price of USD $299, a pricing that very likely had the blessings of NVIDIA. This card may very well be the first of many RTX 2060 custom-design cards by NVIDIA partners to compete with AMD's new Radeon RX 5600 XT being launched at $279. AMD claims performance leads over the price-matched GTX 1660 Ti, which held NVIDIA's fort under the $300 price-band, until now.

Over the weekend, EVGA formally launched the RTX 2060 KO, and already offered pre-order discounts on both its own web-store, and popular U.S. retailer Newegg, with the base RTX 2060 KO going for $279, and the factory-overclocked RTX 2060 KO Ultra priced at $299, with a $20 "instant rebate." This would put the RTX 2060 KO price-matched with the RX 5600 XT, and it would be interesting to see if AMD can respond with lower prices (which would then pancake both NVIDIA's and AMD's product-stack south of $250). EVGA is expected to ship the first orders of the RTX 2060 KO from this week.
