GALAX GeForce RTX 3090 Hall Of Fame (HOF) Edition GPU Benched with Custom 1000 W vBIOS

GALAX, the maker of the popular premium Hall Of Fame (HOF) edition of graphics cards, has recently announced its GeForce RTX 3090 HOF Edition GPU. Designed for extreme overclocking purposes, the card is made with a 12 layer PCB, 26 phase VRM power delivery configuration, and three 8-pin power connectors. Today, we have managed to get the first comprehensive review of the card by a Chinese YouTube channel 二斤自制. However, this wasn't just regular testing being conducted on a card with factory settings. The channel has applied 1000 Watt vBIOS to the GPU and ran it all on the air cooler the GPU comes with.

In the default 420 Watt setting, the card has been running with a GPU clock of 1845 MHz and a temperature of 69 degrees Celsius. However, when the 1000 Watt vBIOS was applied to the card, the GPU core has managed to ramp to 2000 MHz and consume as much as 630 W of power. If you were wondering if the stock cooler was able to handle it all, the answer is yes. The card has reached a toasty 96 C temperature. While GALAX doesn't offer BIOS like this, the ID of the BIOS corresponds to that of a custom XOC 1000 W BIOS for EVGA Kingpin GeForce RTX 3090 GPU, which you can find in our database. When it comes to performance, the gains were very minimal at only 2-3%. That must have been due to the insufficient cooling, and the card could have done much better on water or LN2. EVGA Launches SuperNova 1300 M1 Mining Power Supply

EVGA has recently released the SuperNova 1300 M1 mining power supply for cryptocurrency mining rigs. The new fully modular power supply is rated at 80+ Gold efficiency and can support six GPUs. The power supply includes a single 4+4 pin CPU interface along with six VGA power cables which each include a 6+2 pin and 6 pin connector for high power graphics cards. The 1300 W power supply includes limited SATA and Molex connectors while forgoing the typical EVGA branding with a minimalistic cardboard box packaging. The EVGA SuperNova 1300 M1 is currently listed on Newegg.com for 299.99 USD, the product is not currently listed on EVGA's site.

EVGA Enables Resizable BAR Support on X299, Z590, & Z490 Motherboards

EVGA has recently released new BIOS updates for their X299, Z590, and Z490 motherboards enabling support for the PCIe Resizable BAR feature. Following ASUS' Lead, EVGA and ZOTAC Increase NVIDIA RTX 30-series Pricing

ASUS was the first AIC partner to announce that due to increased costs in procuring supplies and components for PC component manufacture, it would be increasing prices on its motherboards and graphics cards. That announcement from ASUS seems to have opened the floodgates on other manufacturers, as now both EVGA and ZOTAC have increased pricing for their graphics cards - specifically for NVIDIA's RTX 30-series.

EVGA took a similar approach to ASUS, and announced via its website the changes in pricing and their effective date - January 11th. The company's announcement (which you can read in full after the break) sees pricing increase at around $70 across the board of already-launched NVIDIA RTX 30-series graphics cards. The company will still honor users in the queue system for a new graphics card with the previous pricing structure, should their orders complete through April 16th.

EVGA Teases GeForce RTX 3090 KINGPIN Hydro Copper Graphics Card

Jacob Freeman, Global Product Management Director at EVGA, has posted a teaser on his Twitter account for EVGA's upcoming GeForce RTX 3090 KINGPIN Hydro Copper graphics card. The KINGPIN lineup of graphics cards represent the highest-end design from EVGA, and it is built for extreme overclocking with the use of LN2 and with extreme voltages applied. The newly teased GeForce RTX 3090 KINGPIN Hydro Copper card is built for overclocking, however, this model is designed to be cooled by water as there is a water block mounted on the card itself. Called "hydro copper" the name is pretty self-explanatory as it implies that the water block is made out of copper for the best possible heat transfer.

The water block top is build using clear acrylic so the liquid inside the block can be seen. There are integrated RGB lights to customize your build and make the GPU fit in with your flashing lights using EVGA's software. The GPU is most likely going to feature a boost frequency of 1920 MHz, just like its brother GeForce RTX 3090 KINGPIN Hybrid card. Also, an XOC (Extreme Overclocking) BIOS is expected to be applied from the factory, which would bring the maximum power to 450 Watts. Pricing and availability are unknown at the moment.

EVGA Announces Liquid-Cooled GeForce RTX 30-series Graphics Cards

EVGA over the weekend launched an extensive lineup of GeForce RTX 30-series graphics cards that either feature liquid cooling, or come with preparation for DIY liquid cooling. The EVGA Hydro Copper line of graphics cards include the RTX 3090 FTW3 Hydro Copper, RTX 3090 XC3 Hydro Copper, RTX 3080 FTW3 Hydro Copper, and RTX 3080 XC3 Hydro Copper. These are essentially the same FTW3 or XC3 graphics cards EVGA debuted its RTX 3090 and RTX 3080 lineups with, but come with factory-fitted, full-coverage water blocks. These blocks are made of nickel-plated copper, with clear acrylic tops that have a plastic top-plate with a printed pattern similar to the one found on the back-plates. The tops are studded with addressable RGB LEDs which are connected directly to RGB controllers on the PCB, and can be controlled via the Precision X1 software. These cards have the same factory-overclocked speeds as their air-cooled siblings, but are priced about $150-200 higher.

Next up, are the Hybrid Cooling line of graphics cards, which feature factory-fitted, all-in-one, closed-loop, liquid cooling solutions. Much like the FTW3 and XC3 Hydro Copper series, we see EVGA reuse its RTX 3090 and RTX 3080 FTW3 and XC3 PCBs to carve out their Hybrid Cooling variants. The FTW3 Hybrid Cooling cards feature addressable RGB illumination on the radiator fans, while the XC3 Hybrid Cooling series cards lack illumination on the cards. All four variants feature 240 mm x 120 mm radiators, and a pair of included 120 mm fans. The cooling solution features a pump-block cooling the GPU, while a series of heatsinks and a lateral fan cool the memory and VRM components. These cards have a similar $150-200 premium over the air-cooled FTW3 and XC3 cards.

EVGA Unleashes XOC BIOS for GeForce RTX 3090 FTW3 Graphics Card

EVGA has today published the "XOC" BIOS version for its GeForce RTX 3090 FTW3 graphics cards. The XOC BIOS version is designed for "extreme overclocking" purposes, as it boosts the power limit of the card by very a few additional Watts. This allows the overclockers to use the card to its full potential so the GPU core is not limited by power. To run XOC BIOS on your GeForce RTX 3090 FTW3 GPU card, you need to have an adequate cooling solution and sufficient power supply. For power, EVGA recommends that you use at least 850w+ Gold PSU, at minimum. This is a sign that shows that XOC bios will boost the system power consumption by quite a bit. The XOC BIOS is enabling the GPU to have a power limit of 500 Watts. It is important to note that EVGA does not guarantee any performance increase or overclock while using this BIOS update.

You can download the EVGA XOC BIOS for GeForce RTX 3090 FTW3 graphics card here. To install it, unzip the file, run Update.exe, and after updating restart your PC. That is the complete update process for the BIOS update. EVGA uploads both the normal BIOS (so you can revert) and XOC BIOS there so be careful when choosing the right files. You can use TechPowerUp GPU-Z tool to verify the BIOS install.

EVGA Releases Optional BIOS Update for RTX 3080 FTW3 ULTRA - XOC 450 W

EVGA has just released a shocking update for their RTX 3080 FTW3 Ultra graphics card, which increases the cards' power limit to 450 W, a 50 W increase over the 400 W power limit the card ships with. The BIOS release doesn't, however, guarantee higher performance - as always, NVIDIA's Boost is affected by temperatures (which are, in turn, affected by the chips' power draw). What this power limit increase does mean is that users who want to embark in overclocking feats can now do so with more ease.

The EVGA RTX 3080 FTW3 ULTRA thus joins ASUS' ROG STRIX OC in their upper power limits; NVIDIA's RTX 3080 cards are usually capped at 320 W or 340 W, due to power efficiency and temperature concerns. EVGA's FTW3 Ultra features three 8-pin connectors to allow for this amount of power to be delivered to the boards' circuits. EVGA GeForce RTX 3090 KINGPIN Achieves 2.58 GHz Core Clock, Breaks World Record in 3D Mark Port Royal

[Update, September 29, 2020: We now have a good first look at the card courtesy the man himself. It confirms what we already knew, with a 360 mm AIO cooler and a flip-up OLED screen paired to the flagship offering from EVGA this generation.]

It's only been moments after the RTX 3090's release, but professional overclockers are already unleashing the power available on NVIDIA's GA-102 chip by resorting to exotic cooling techniques. Renowned overclocker Vince "K|NGP|N" Lucido, who works in close proximity with NVIDIA AIB EVGA, tamed the RTX 3090's temperature by resorting to liquid nitrogen. This, alongside tweaks to Vcore (1069 mV) allowed the card to reach a startling 2.58 GHz core clock (a staggering 52.2% increase over NVIDIA's base clock), and 10.750 MHz (21.5 Gbps) memory clocks on the GDDR6X subsystem, which in itself is a 10.3% increase over reference clocks.

The 16.673 3D Mark Port Royal score was achieved with a fully custom design made by EVGA with Vince Lucidos' input. This über 3090 ultimately delivered a performance increase of around 30% more than the stock RTX 3090 would be able to, which isn't a bad equilibrium between the core and memory clock increases. Some might say this is the performance delta one would expect between the 3090 and the 3080 (an overall 40% performance increase, considering the 3090 is already an average of 10% faster than the 3080 at stock clocks).

NVIDIA AIC Partners Clarify RTX 3080/3090 Crash to Desktop Issues, Capacitor Choices

Compounding the limited availability with the crash to desktop issues users have been experiencing with NVIDIA's recent RTX 3080/3090 graphics cards have led to rivers of digital ink being run on NVIDIA's latest RTX-30 series. After we've reported on NVIDIA's PG132 "Base Design" and manufacturer-specific capacitor choices and circuitry, we've now seen many of NVIDIA's AIC partners actually respond to this issue, clarifying their choices in this specific part of RTX 30-series board design, as well as the steps they've taken (if any) so as to help solve the issues (which are thus confirmed as being somewhat related to these capacitor choices, even if they are not the root cause.)

EVGA GeForce RTX 3090 XC3 and FTW3 Pictured in the Flesh

Here are some of the first pictures of the EVGA GeForce RTX 3090 XC3 and FTW3 air-cooled graphics cards in the flesh. The XC3 forms EVGA's more affordable RTX 3090 offering, while the FTW3 will be the company's premium air-cooled product. There will be liquid-cooled products based on the same PCB as the FTW3, as well as overclocker-segment products under EVGA's Kingpin collaboration.

The EVGA RTX 3090 XC3 features a simpler dual-slot cooling solution that uses a trio of fans. The card is 11 cm of (standard full-height) tall. It draws power from no more than two 8-pin PCIe power inputs. The card is expected to tick at NVIDIA-reference clock speeds for the RTX 3090, and its non-overclocked variant could be priced close to NVIDIA's $1,499 baseline price. The FTW3, on the other hand, features a meaty triple-slot cooling solution that's at least an inch taller than full-height. The cooler makes lavish use of chrome and RGB LED elements. The PCB uses a meatier VRM solution that pulls power from three 8-pin PCIe power inputs.
