Samsung Samples 8GB Memory Card Chip

Samsung Electronics, announced today that it has begun shipping samples of an eight gigabyte (GB) memory chip to major mobile electronics manufacturers - the highest density embedded flash memory developed to date. Samsung's high-density moviNAND memory solution consists of four 50-nanometer, 16Gigabit NAND flash memories, a high-speed MultiMediaCard (MMC) controller and associated firmware. It can store up to 2,000 songs or enough map data to implement global positioning system (GPS) and points of interest for the entire western world. In addition, it can also be used with removable media cards to permit virtually unlimited memory expansion.

Kingston releases new USB drives

Famous memory manufacturer Kingston has released new ultra-portable USB drives. Under the name DataTraveler Mini, the company has made some of the smallest USB sticks on the market, while at the same time it boasts licensed technology from Migo Software.

The sticks are available in 512MB, 1GB and 2GB capacities. The Migo software allows users to efficiently transfer data between computers, thereby allowing them to have all the required data always with them. Kingston has also bundled some games, specifically The Atlantis and Magic Vines.

The two gig stick retails for £14.40 (~$30), while the 1GB stick will set you back £7.20 (~$15). The 512MB version costs £5.75 ($12).

Sony Launches 8GB Memory Stick Pro Duo

Sony Japan has increased the maximum Memory Stick Pro Duo capacity to 8GB with their new 'MSX-M8GS' Memory Stick Pro Duo. The new Memory Stick will be compatible with digital cameras and laptops sold this year. Backward compatibility is not certain. PSPs running firmware ver. 2.81 will be compatible with the new Memory stick. 8GB does put a lot of free space for disposal, as you can load up 19 hours 20 minutes of QVGA video in MPEG-4 format at 768 kbps, 2500 JPEG images and 4100 songs in Atrac format at 64kbps.

Sony will start selling the 'MSX-M8GS' 8GB Memory Stick Pro Duo from March 9 in Japan for 38,000 Yen ($ 325).

Solid state flash disk manufacturer Adtron Corporation, announces today the immediate availability of its most advanced generation of the Adtron Flashpak Family of products including the IDE and Serial ATA (SATA) flash disk models, the I25FB and A25FB, respectively. A company called Duck Image has released plans to produce a USB drive that brings new levels of security to the market. Most USB drives can now be secured fairly easily by software, but Duck Image has taken this a step further introducing their 007 USB flash drive that can be physically locked to whatever you chose.
