Even amidst fears of the company closing down, GeCube has made it a point to release new products. The latest offering is a passively-cooled Radeon HD 4550 accelerator. The GC-HD4550LP3-E3 is a half-height, HTPC-friendly graphics card which makes do with a heatsink to cool it. The heatsink spans across three quarters of the length of the card.

The card is driven by the 55 nm RV710 GPU which holds 80 stream processors, and a 64-bit wide memory interface to hold 512 MB of GDDR3 memory. The core is clocked at 600 MHz, with the memory at 800 MHz (1600 MHz DDR). DVI and HDMI connectors are located on the card, with a D-Sub connector that extends out. Expect this card to be priced around €50.

AMD's graphics product group, the core division that handles the company's ATI graphics and AMD chipset product lines, is said to be engaging in a reshuffling of its add-in board partners (AIBs). These are companies that manufacture and/or sell ATI Radeon-based graphics cards. With the recent success of the Radeon HD 4000 series graphics processors, the company added two more popular AIBs: Pine Group (XFX Graphics) and Gainward, a subsidiary of Palit.

Inter-AIB competition meant that a few weaker, non-performing AIBs have come to light, which AMD is reportedly contemplating breaking partnership with. GeCube is the first brand. GeCube is the channel-vendor brand for InfoTek Corp, a manufacturing partner for AMD GPG. Speculation is rife about hardware giant ASUS also being in the league. The most plausible explanation is poor sales figures.

On the other hand, a Chinese company that is relatively unknown to the Western markets yet not new to selling graphics cards, Colorful is joining AMD's league as an AIB.

You read it. There are elements in Asia using the GeCube brand name to sell counterfeit graphics cards based on the ATI Radeon HD 4000 series graphics processors. Large inventories of counterfeit GeCube graphics cards have reportedly made it to the market and threten to dilute GeCube's market position and its image as a reputed AMD add-in board partner.

GeCube has released a few guidelines to help consumers spot these counterfeits and report them to the authorities. Video card manufacturer GECUBE unveiled yesterday its AGP 8X version of ATI Radeon HD 2400 Pro. Codenamed GC-RX24PGA2-D3, the new RV610-powered card boasts 256MB of DDR2 memory, native DirectX 10/Shader Model 4.0 support and ATI's Universal Video Decoder. The card is already starting to hit the stores and costs a little under 65 Euros. GECUBE is also expected to introduce 512MB version of the card.

At CeBIT, GECUBE demonstrated what it claims to be the fastest AGP board to date, the GC-HX195XTGA3-D3.

This board is based on a fully-fledged R580+ GPU, marketed as the Radeon X1950XT. However, the GPU clock has been changed from the default 625MHz to 648MHz. ATI Overdrive is supported, and this option in the Catalyst driver will increase clock all the way to 675MHz. The card uses 256MB of GDDR3 memory. Product manager Jeff Fu said the firm "will not abandon AGP users".

GECUBE also proudly announced what will make many AGP users very happy: AGP DX10.

GeCube Releases X1950XT AGP Graphics Card with X-Turbo Cooling

GeCube has launched a 256MB GDDR3 version of the ATI Radeon X1950XT graphics card for AGP 8X interface. According to GeCube the AGP 8X interface version of the card has the equal performance as the PCI-Express interface version.
