Eurocom Adds Intel Xeon Processor X5690 to Panther 2.0

Eurocom Corporation, the world's leading developer of highly personalized, high-performance notebook PCs and energy efficient All-in-One PCs, is now supporting the groundbreaking Intel Xeon Processor X5690 in its line of Mobile Server and Mobile Workstation notebooks.

The EUROCOM Mobile Server Technology significantly reduces the time and cost of deploying short-term LAN based solutions and of extending usage of existing business applications to users wherever is required. Eurocom has developed a concept called "Server-on-the-Go" where a team of Engineers in the field operating under a RED Team strategy utilize a Eurocom Mobile Server to receive and process feedback while being face-to-face with customers, co-developers, final users and other third parties.

TechPowerUp GPU-Z 0.5.1 Released

TechPowerUp introduced version 0.5.1 of GPU-Z, our lightweight graphics sub-system information and monitoring utility. GPU-Z provides you with technical details of your installed graphics processors, and lets you monitor clock speeds, voltages, temperatures and fan speeds. This month's release adds support for new GPUs, improves stability, and corrects some minor bugs. To begin with, detection for the new NVIDIA GeForce GTX 560 Ti graphics processor is added, alongside GeForce GTX 480M, and GeForce GTX 485M. Detection was improved for GeForce GTX 460M, GT 445M, and GT 435M. Early support for AMD's Fusion Llano, Ontario, and Zacate-embedded APUs were also added.

With the latest driver, NVIDIA had blocked our power-throttling disable parameter. We found our way around it, and using a new method, fixed the "/GTX500OCP" parameter using which you can override NVIDIA's power throttling feature. Support for new voltage controllers used by the latest batches of Radeon HD 6800/HD 6900 series graphics cards were also added. A number of stability improvements were made, and bugs fixed. The updates notifier is less pesky, it checks for timely updates in the background when GPU-Z is launched (according to update check frequency defined by user), and appears to users only if it finds that new updates are available.

NVIDIA BIOS Editor (NiBiTor) Version 5.8 Released

NVIDIA BIOS Editor (fondly known as NiBiTor) got updated to version 5.8 today. NiBiTor allows you to extract and modify the VGA BIOS from a supported graphics card. With each release, the list of supported cards (and partially supported cards) expands, and bugs fixed. New GPUs supported from this release on include:
  • GeForce GTX 460
  • GeForce GTX 480M
"Well we have has just released a new version of NVIDIA BIOS Editor (NiBiTor) software. NiBiTor is the original and definitive BIOS tweaker that supports the latest NVIDIA graphics cards, and which is updated on a regular basis. NiBiTor allows graphics card enthusiasts, or the hardcore overclockers to have full control over some advanced features and functionality found on firmware of supporting cards. And doing so users gain some extra performance, enable certain hidden features, tweaking memory latencies, provide extensive information, adapt bootup settings, changing fan speed options and/or get extra stability on their NVIDIA based graphics accelerators which will just give them that little extra value," notes the developer.

NVIDIA Releases GeForce GTX 480M, World's Fastest Notebook GPU

NVIDIA made its GeForce GTX 480M GPU official today. The DirectX 11 compliant GPU is based on the GF100 core and packs all the features of its desktop counterpart, such as decentralized hardware tessellation, next-generation CUDA and DirectCompute 5.0. The GF100 core has a configuration similar to the GeForce GTX 465 desktop GPU. It has three of its four graphics processing clusters (GPCs), and 11 out of 16 streaming multiprocessors (SMs) enabled, giving a CUDA core count of 352. To reduce the overall board footprint, the GPU makes do with a 256-bit wide GDDR5 memory interface, with 1 GB of memory.

To make keep up with the electrical constraints of notebooks, the GTX 480M uses much lower clock-speeds than any desktop product that uses GF100. The core is clocked at 425 MHz, shader domain at 850 MHz, and memory at 600 MHz (real) or 2.40 GHz (effective), which gives a memory bandwidth of 76.8 GB/s. As mentioned earlier, the full feature-set of its desktop counterparts is packed with the GTX 480M, including support for NVIDIA 3D Vision, PureVideo HD, PhysX, and CUDA. It can pair with up to two boards of its kind in 2-way SLI. Constraints of the notebook form-factor won't allow any more boards, anyway. The GPU is open to Notebook manufacturers to plan their designs around. NVIDIA claims the GTX 480M to be the fastest notebook GPU. It finds direct competition in the ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5870, which is based on the 800 stream processor-laden Juniper core.

NVIDIA Readying GeForce 400 Series Mobile GPUs for June?

Call it a slip of the keyboard, the latest online build to order catalogue of Eurocom's performance laptops includes a new choice of graphics board, the "NVIDIA GeForce GTX 480M". It's not as much the entry, but details next to it that are interesting. This card, according to Eurocom, is said to be based on the Fermi architecture, is compliant with DirectX 11 (so it's not yet another re-branding), is built on the 40 nm manufacturing process, and has a power rating of [just] 100W. The card is compliant with the MXM 3.0b board standard. Eurocom sets the option's ETA to June 2010, and adds 271€ over the base configuration. In comparison, the GeForce GTX 285M SLI option (based on two G92 GPUs) asks for 339€ over the base configuration.

While by notebooks' standards 100W is on the higher side, it is astoundingly low by standards of NVIDIA's GeForce Fermi architecture, serving as a reasonable indication of NVIDIA's more energy-efficient Fermi-derived GPUs arriving to the scene in June. At the moment, unreliable sources point at NVIDIA expanding its GeForce 400 series lineup further down performance and mainstream segments, coinciding with Computex 2010 held in Taiwan.
