Raijintek announced the Morpheus Core Edition, a matte-black variant of its popular universal VGA cooler. Armed with a large monolithic aluminium fin stack of 129 fins, the cooler features a nickel-plated copper base, with mirror finish. Six 6 mm thick nickel-plated copper heat pipes with dark / gunmetal finish, spread heat across the fin stack. The cooler can hold on to two common 120 mm fans for ventilation. It can soak up thermal loads of up to 360W, making it fit for a variety of feisty high-end GPUs, such as the GeForce GTX 780 Ti, the Radeon R9 290X, and other GPUs based on the GK104, GM204, and "Pitcairn" silicons. MSI is reportedly holding off on launching an overclocking-grade GeForce GTX 980 graphics card that you can ride into record-setting competitions, based on its coveted OC Series Lightning brand. The company probably wants to avoid a repeat of last year, when launch of its GeForce GTX 780 Lightning graphics card was closely trailed by NVIDIA's launch of the inherently faster GeForce GTX 780 Ti, and resulting price-cuts for the GTX 780, throwing MSI's inventories in jeopardy. The year before that, MSI launched the Radeon HD 7970 Lightning just weeks before AMD launched the faster HD 7970 GHz Edition.

MSI could stick to selling its Gaming Series GTX 980, equipped with the new Twin Frozr V cooling solution, even offering factory-overclocked variants of the card. This also leads one to wonder if NVIDIA has a third, high-end graphics card based on the GM204 silicon, on the 'cards,' one with higher clock speeds, or a higher temperature-based clock speed throttle, which is currently at a hair-trigger 80°C on the GTX 980.

Following the launch of its GeForce GTX 980 and GTX 970 graphics cards, NVIDIA announced discontinuation of three of its top-selling high-end graphics cards, the GeForce GTX 780 Ti, the GeForce GTX 780, and the GeForce GTX 770. The $549 GeForce GTX 980 cannibalizes the GTX 780 Ti and GTX 780; and is cheaper to make, with 2 billion fewer transistors, four fewer memory chips, and a lighter VRM; while the GTX 970 targets several key sub-$350 products, blasting the GTX 770 to irrelevance. NVIDIA also tweaked pricing of its GeForce GTX 760 performance-segment graphics card, which now starts at $219. The company is expected to launch its replacement, the GeForce GTX 960, some time in October, 2014.

Apparently, NVIDIA is convinced that it has a pair of winners on its hands, with its upcoming GeForce GTX 980 and GTX 970 graphics cards, and is preparing to price them steeply. The GeForce GTX 980 is expected to start at US $599, nearly the same price as the GeForce GTX 780 Ti. The GTX 970, on the other hand, will start at US $399, danger-close to cannibalizing the GTX 780.

Across the brands, the GTX 980 is launching at the same pricing AMD's Radeon R9 290X launched at; and the GTX 970 at that of the R9 290. AMD's cards have since settled down to $449 for the R9 290X, and R9 290 at $350. Both the GTX 980 and GTX 970, will be available in non-reference board designs, although reference-design GTX 980 will dominate day-one reviews. Based on the 28 nm GM204 silicon, the GTX 980 features 2,048 CUDA cores, 128 TMUs, 32 ROPs; while the GTX 970 features 1,664 CUDA cores, and 104 TMUs. Both feature 256-bit wide memory interfaces, holding 4 GB of GDDR5 memory.

A Coolaler.com community member claims to have scored a GeForce GTX 870 sample, ahead of its September 2014 launch. GPU-Z cannot correctly detect the GPU at this point. It is, however, programmed to pull out some details of unknown GPUs. It reads the card's name as "D17U-20" featuring a GPU name "13C2." The Device ID and BIOS fields are conveniently redacted, so we cannot say for sure if this is genuine.

The card's CUDA core count is 1,664. Given how streaming multiprocessors in "Maxwell" GPUs launched so far feature 128 cores, this particular chip features 13. Other features read out are 138 TMUs, 32 ROPs, and a 256-bit wide memory interface, holding 4 GB of GDDR5 memory. The sample features clock speeds of 1051 MHz core, 1178 MHz GPU Boost, and 1753 MHz (7012 MHz GDDR5 effective) memory, yielding 224 GB/s of memory bandwidth. The test-bed including a Core i7-4820K "Ivy Bridge-E" quad-core processor. The card was put through 3DMark 11, in its performance (P) and extreme (X) presets. It scored P11919 points in the performance preset, and X4625 in the extreme preset; which makes the card roughly as fast as a GeForce GTX 780. And these are pre-release drivers, and probably a pre-launch qualification sample altogether. Color us intrigued.

KFA2 launched an updated version of its factory-overclocked GeForce GTX 780 HOF (hall of fame) graphics card, the GTX 780 HOF OC+. Based on the same exact board design as the original, the card features clock speeds of 1019 MHz core (1006 MHz on the original, 863 MHz reference), 1071 MHz GPU Boost (1058 MHz on the original, 902 MHz reference); while leaving the memory untouched at 6.00 GHz. It features 6 GB of memory across the chip's 384-bit wide GDDR5 memory interface, double the standard memory amount. The company didn't announce pricing.

Colorful showed off the most over-the-top GeForce GTX 780 graphics card out there, the iGame GTX 780 Buri-Liquid. The card features 6 GB of GDDR5 memory (double the standard amount), and a factory-fitted closed-loop liquid cooling solution. Colorful appears to have innovated the cooling solution all by themselves, and not sourced it from one of the liquid cooling majors. It consists of a full-coverage water block on the card, with the pump+reservoir assembly being located at the 240 x 120 mm radiator's end. The card features dual-BIOS, with one running it at NVIDIA-reference speeds, and the other at factory-overclocked speeds of 1006 MHz core.

Galaxy launched a 6 GB variant of its GeForce GTX 780 Hall of Fame (HOF) graphics card (model: GF-GTX780-E6GHD/SOC), which features the company's signature white PCB, and a meaty cooling solution. Barring the 6 GB of memory, the card is identical to the original GTX 780 HOF Galaxy launched last July. It comes with a huge factory overclock, of 1019 MHz core (compared to 863 MHz reference), and GPU Boost frequencies of 1071 MHz (compared to 928 MHz reference); while the memory clock is left untouched, at 6008 MHz (GDDR5-effective). Based on the 28 nm GK110 silicon, the GeForce GTX 780 offers 2,304 CUDA cores, 192 TMUs, 48 ROPs, and a 384-bit wide memory interface.

The GeForce GTX 780 Hall of Fame 6 GB features a 10-phase VRM, which draws power from two 8-pin PCIe power connectors. It offers dual-BIOS, with the toggle switch being located at the I/O bracket, so you don't have to open the case up to flip a switch. Display outputs include two dual-link DVI, and one each of DisplayPort and HDMI. Its cooling solution features Hybrid Vapor Chamber (combination of a vapor chamber plate and direct-contact heat pipes), which conveys heat to a large aluminium fin-stack heatsink, over four nickel-plated copper heat pipes. A base-plate with heatsink fins cools the VRM and memory. The heatsink is ventilated by a pair of 90 mm fans.

ASUS Republic of Gamers (ROG) today announced Poseidon GTX 780 with DirectCU H2O, a new graphics card with an exclusive hybrid thermal solution that enables extremely efficient cooling by either air or water.

The new card is powered by the latest NVIDIA GeForce GTX 780 GPU (graphics-processing unit). With DirectCU H2O on board offering users the unique ability to cool either by air or water, ROG Poseidon GTX 780 achieves running temperatures that are up to 24°C lower than reference designs - that's up to 140% cooler for gaming performance that's up to 12% faster in both Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag and BattleField 4.

As if one GTX 780 Lightning wasn't enough, MSI is currently preparing the release of another such card, a 'Lite Edition' with the same features but lower clocks. The LE model comes with 889/941 MHz Base/Boost GPU clocks while the already-released GTX 780 Lightning is set to 980/1033 MHz.

The card's price tag has not been revealed.

Here are some more pictures of ASUS' Republic of Gamers Poseidon graphics card, after its unofficial unveiling last week. SweClockers scored a few interesting tidbits about the card, which is being exhibited at DreamHack, Europe's biggest gaming event. The biggest news of them all is the chip underneath that hot-rod cooler - it's a GeForce GTX 780, and not a GTX 780 Ti, meaning that it offers just 2,304 CUDA cores and 192 TMUs, and not the 2,880 CUDA cores and 240 TMUs of the GTX 780 Ti. The card is expected to come with a minor factory-overclock (not disclosed), but large overclocking headroom backed by not just its 10-phase Digi+ VRM, but also its cooling solution, which fuses an aluminium fin-stack heatsink with a full-coverage liquid cooling channel.

Zotac rolled out special edition bundles of its various GeForce GTX 700 series graphics cards in Japan, which include 30-day gameplay coupons to Final Fantasy 14: A Realm Reborn, Square Enix' smash-hit RPG. Among the cards with the offer are GeForce GTX 780 and GTX 780 AMP! Edition based on the company's dual-slot Triple Silencer cooling solution (ZTGTX780-3GD5FF14R03 and ZTGTX780-3GD5AMPFF14R04); GeForce GTX 760 TwinCooler (ZTGTX760-2GD5FF14R04); and GTX 660 Dual-Silencer (ZTGTX660-2GD5FF14R02). The cards don't appear to come with price-premiums.

Right after the launch of iGame Kudan 780, Colorful Technology finally releases its iGame 780-3GD5 graphic card. It continued the important features of iGame family -- adopting one-key overclocking, high quality IPP inductor and SPT (Silver Plating Technology). Although the performance of iGame 780 is under iGame Kudan, yet the performance of Game 780 is 17% better than GTX 780 reference card, especially while playing AAA title games.

In the aftermath of AMD's Radeon R9 290 launch, which at $399, makes the $499 GeForce GTX 780 look undesirable, NVIDIA could be pushing its partners to come up with factory-overclocked SKUs that make the GTX 780 competitive at its price point. The first such card is the Gigabyte GTX 780 GHz Edition, which was earlier mistaken for an official NVIDIA SKU. Granted, the card is based on the new B1 stepping of the GK110 chip, but that doesn't constitute a new SKU. The card features out of the box clock speeds of 1019 MHz core, 1071 MHz GPU Boost, and an untouched 6.00 GHz (GDDR5-effective) memory. It's beginning to appear on European online retail websites such as OCUK, at a roughly 10 percent premium over regular GTX 780 cards.

NVIDIA's upcoming GeForce GTX 780 Ti is configured to be a notch above the GTX TITAN after all, as leaked specifications sheets reveal it utilize all components available on the GK110 silicon. Specifications sheets of a Galaxy-branded GTX 780 Ti was leaked to the web by @asder00, which reveal it to feature the full complement of 2,880 CUDA cores on the GK110 silicon, which work out to 240 texture memory units (TMUs). Other specifications include 48 ROPs, and a 384-bit wide GDDR5 memory interface, holding 3 GB of memory. Clock speeds include 876 MHz core, 928 MHz GPU Boost, and 1750 MHz (7.00 GHz GDDR5-effective) memory. With these specifications on paper, the GTX 780 Ti shouldn't have too many problems beating the GTX TITAN, and with it, the Radeon R9 290X from AMD. It features everything there is on the GK110, half the memory of the GTX TITAN, but one that's faster.

With AMD's Radeon R9 290X and the upcoming Radeon R9 290, both NVIDIA's GTX TITAN, and GTX 780 are disrupted at their price points. NVIDIA is fixing its GTX TITAN competitive woes with the GeForce GTX 780 Ti, but it's looking like the GTX 780, despite its price cut to $500, could face trouble from the cheaper Radeon R9 290. NVIDIA's more hands-on solution? Launch a new SKU, that's and backed by non-reference designs for the most part, which some of its add-in card (AIC) partners are referring to as "GeForce GTX 780 GHz Edition."

Simply put, the "GeForce GTX 780 GHz Edition" is your ordinary GTX 780 with increased clock speeds of 1006 MHz core, 1046 MHz GPU Boost, and an untouched 6.00 GHz memory. The card is based on a new stepping of the GK110 silicon, labeled "GK110-300-B1," compared to the original's "GK110-300-A1." Expreview discovered its Inno3D GTX 780 iChill HerculeZ 3000 graphics card to be based on this new silicon, and at its given speeds of 1006/1046/6008 MHz, found to to be about 15 percent faster than a standard GTX 780, and about 7 percent faster than a GTX TITAN. It's also about 6.2 percent faster than an R9 290X on the same test-bed. Power consumption isn't up significantly, and the cooler that's an Arctic Cooling solution, does a good job at keeping the temperatures manageable, and keeps throttle limits away. Launch of AMD's Radeon R9 290 (non-X) is reportedly pushed back by a week, to Tuesday, November 5, 2013. The card was expected to launch on October 31, 2013. The reason for this delay? AMD reportedly developed a new driver that significantly improves performance on the R9 290. AMD pushed this driver onto reviewers at the last minute, and asked them to re-bench their R9 290 samples from scratch, extending their NDA till the 5th. The driver reportedly makes the R9 290 extremely competitive with GeForce GTX 780. A side-effect of that would be that the recently launched Radeon R9 290X could be rendered unattractive. It remains to be seen if the driver also proportionately improves performance on the R9 290X, and how AMD ends up pricing the R9 290.
