Semiconductor startup Tachyum Inc. announced today that it has achieved, on schedule, a major milestone in the detailed physical design of its Prodigy Universal Processor. Tachyum now has a complete chip layout, with a verified detailed physical design of more than 90 percent of the design silicon area.

Tachyum's Prodigy is the world's first Universal Processor, combining general-purpose processors, high-performance computing (HPC), artificial intelligence (AI), deep machine learning (ML), explainable AI, bio AI and other AI disciplines within a single chip. This latest milestone achieved integration of key, high-quality Tachyum IP within a multiprocessor environment, and with DDR4/DDR5 DRAM controllers, PCIE 5.0, 112Gb SERDES, USB, GPIO, PLLs and various I/Os. Results of the layout indicate that Prodigy's die size is within product design goals with top-level clocking results that are better than expected.

LG introduced the UltraGear 34GN850-B, a 34-inch, 21:9, curved, ultra-wide gaming monitor, a revision of the UltraGear 34GN850, denoted by the "-B" in the model name. The monitor uses a Nano-IPS panel by LG Display, which offers UWQHD (3440 x 1440 pixels) resolution. The panel offers 144 Hz refresh rate and 1 ms (GTG) response time, and support for a constellation of proprietary features: AMD FreeSync 2 Premium, NVIDIA G-SYNC (compatible), HDR10, DisplayHDR 400.

The UltraGear 34GN850-B offers coverage of 98% of DCI-P3 color gamut, 10 bpc (1.07 billion colors), and feature such as Dynamic Action Sync (lag reduction), Black Stabilizer (improves visibility in dark areas of the scene), and overlay crosshair. Other specs include 178°/178° viewing-angles, 1,000:1 static- and dynamic mega-contrast ratios; and 400 cd/m² maximum brightness. Non-display features include a 2-port USB 3.0 hub, a headset stand, and VESA wall-mounts. Display inputs include two HDMI 2.0 and a DisplayPort. It is available from late-April at an unknown price, although the original 34GN850 can be found around $900 in some places.

ASUS today rolled out the TUF Gaming VG279Q1R, a fast 27-inch gaming monitor. If you're willing to overlook its Full HD (1920 x 1080 pixels) resolution, on offer is an IPS panel with 144 Hz refresh-rate, 1 ms MPRT response time, ELMB (extreme low motion blur), and AMD FreeSync Premium support. ASUS offers most of its gamer-specific innovations such as GamePlus (hardware crosshairs, FPS counter, timer, multi-display alignment); and GameVisual (game genre-specific display presets). Display inputs include a DisplayPort 1.2a, and two HDMI 1.4a. The stand offers basic tilt adjustments, and can be detached to reveal a VESA wall mount. We expect a $250 price.

Japanese monitor maker iiyama has recently unveiled the GB3461WQSU Red Eagle gaming monitor. The GB3461WQSU ticks all the boxes with a 3440x1440 resolution, 144hz refresh rate, IPS panel, 1 ms MPRT, and AMD Freesync support. The panel has 100% coverage of the sRGB color range, 74% of the NTSC one and a typical brightness of 350cd/m² along with a 1000:1 contrast ratio.

The included adjustable stand allows for height (130 mm), tilt (-3° - 22°) and swivel (45° in both directions) control but can also be removed for usage with a (100 x 100 mm) VESA mount. The monitor is equipped with two HDMI and two DisplayPort inputs along with two USB 3.0 ports and a 3.5 mm headphone jack. . The monitor measures (W x H x D) 817 x 415 x 230 mm and weighs 9.7 kg. Pricing hasn't been announced by iiyama but a Dutch retailer has the monitor listed for €479 ($524 USD), with availability from next week.

ASUS today rolled out the 2020 TUF Gaming A15 and A17 gaming notebooks powered by AMD Ryzen 7 4800H 8-core/16-thread processor, and two combinations of NVIDIA GeForce discrete graphics. The TUF506IV-AS76 features GeForce RTX 2060 (mobile) graphics, a 1 TB NVMe SSD, and 16 GB of DDR4-3200 memory; while its sibling, the TUF506IU-ES74, features GTX 1660 Ti (mobile) graphics, 512 GB NVMe SSD, and 16 GB of DDR4-2667 memory.

The star-attraction with both are their 15.6-inch Full HD IPS displays with 144 Hz refresh-rates. The A17 (TUF706IU-AS76) sits between the two, with a larger 17.3-inch Full HD IPS display that has the same 144 Hz refresh-rate, but GTX 1660 Ti (mobile) graphics, 16 GB of DDR4-3200 memory, and 1 TB NVMe SSD. All three feature a pair of USB 3.1 gen 1 type-A, one USB 3.1 gen 2 type-C, illuminated keyboards, large 90 Whr batteries, 1 GbE wired, and 802.11ac WLAN. The A15 TUF506IV-AS76 is priced at USD $1,200, the A15 TUF506IU-ES74 at $1,000; and the A17 TUF706IU-AS76 at $1,100.

It was only recently that we reported on Samsung's decision to stop manufacturing all the LCD panels and focus on the production of AMOLED and QLED displays. However, it seems like Samsung will not be abandoning the LCD technology completely. According to a report from DigiTimes, we have information that Samsung will continue to offer LCD-based screens, TN-film, various kinds of VA, IPS, etc., by buying the LCD screen from a Japanese multinational company called Sharp. Sharp will be Samsung's only source of these LCD screens, so Samsung will still be able to offer products based on them. It is reported that types of panels in question are meant for the production of television devices, meaning that they are probably bigger-sized panels.

ASUS has just announced two new IPS Full-HD monitors in 24" and 27" sizes, the VZ249HEG1R and VZ279HEG1R. These two new gaming monitors both feature refresh rates of 75Hz, a luminance of 250 cd/m², a contrast ratio of 1,000: 1, and a 1 ms response time. Input is barebones with only a single HDMI port and a D-Sub connector.

The stands are VESA compatible with 75 x 75 mm mounting options and can tilt -5 to 22 °. Pricing and availability have not been announced.

Acer today announced its new Predator Triton 500 and Acer Nitro 5 gaming notebooks. Alongside significant developments in thermal performance, both devices come with the latest 10th Gen Intel Core processors and newly announced NVIDIA GeForce RTX SUPER and GTX GPUs.

Have you ever wondered how a laptop with a desktop CPU that has 16 cores and 32 threads would look like on a laptop? Well, today is your lucky day as XMG, a German laptop maker, has decided to launch a laptop that has AMD's latest and greatest desktop CPU - the Ryzen 3950X 16C/32T monster. The 3950X CPU, while featuring a regular TDP of 105 W, has been configured to 65 W in Eco Mode, and it runs anywhere from 2.6 to 4.2 GHz. The CPU also isn't soldered to the motherboard and there is a full AM4 socket, that is capable of housing any 3000 series desktop CPU.

Besides a powerful CPU, there are options for NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060 or RTX 2070 graphics cards, which drive a 15.6-inch Full HD 144 Hz IPS panel equipped with anti-glare technology. The GPUs are a "Max-P incarnation" as XMG calls it, which presumably means that they are designed for maximum performance i.e. possibly higher boost speeds. Additionally, you can configure the laptop with up to 64 GB of DDR4 2666 MHz RAM. This configuration, containing Ryzen 9 3950X, RTX 2070, 32 GB of RAM and 1 TB NVM, costs around 2631 EUR. LG today introduced their UltraGear 27GN750 monitor, which aims to bring high-speed, fluid gaming to a relatively low price-point. The 27GN750 is a flat monitor with a 27" diagonal, featuring an IPS panel and 1080p resolution. The gaming chops on this monitor are very much increased by the fact that it features a 240 Hz refresh rate with 1 ms response time. LG also touts VRR support in the form of G-SYNC Compatible certification (which means it employs VRR much like AMD first did through VRR instead of having to employ a dedicated module).

LG says this display is HDR compatible, but make no mistake, it's the lowest form supported (400 nits typical brightness with 320 nits as minimum according to LG), so that compatibility is... Arguable, to say the least. There's no VESA HDR 400 badge for a reason. Color reproduction is rated at 99% sRGB coverage (typical for an IPS panel). Connectivity-wise, we're looking at 1x DisplayPort, 2x HDMI, 1x USB 3.0 (upstream), 2x USB 3.0 (downstream) and 1x Headphone. LG quotes a Tilt / Height / Pivot Adjustable Stand. The LG UltraGear 27GN750 monitor is available for $399.

MSI today launched three new monitors on their Optix lineup, catering to budget-conscious gamers that want fast, responsive gameplay. MSI's new Optix G241 and Optix G271 differ solely in diagonal (one is 24", the other 27"), and both offer a 1080p, IPS panel with support for refresh rates up to 144 Hz and up to 1 ms response times. Both these monitors feature support for AMD FreeSync, max 250 nits brightness, and connectivity is taken care of by 1x DisplayPort 1.2a and 2x HDMI 1.4b. The MSI Optix G241 will be available for $189.99, whilst the 27" MSI Optix G271 will go for $239.99.

More interesting for gamers that want crazy refresh rates, however, is the MSI Optix MAG251RX. This monitor keeps the 1080p resolution and IPS panel, but brings refresh rates up to a crazy 240 Hz with up to 1 ms response time. MSI has also "upgraded" the Variable Refresh Rate (VRR) technology up to NVIDIA's G-Sync. There's HDR 400 support (don't read that much into that though; it's the bare minimum for entry and far from a quality HDR experience). It also sports USB-C connectivity and RGB customization on the back of the monitor via MSI's Mystic Light software. The MSI Optix MAG251RX will be available for a still conscious $359.99, provided you didn't stop reading at the mention of a 1080p panel.

BenQ today announced the latest addition to its monitor family design for professional use. The SW321C, as it is called, is a 32-inch monitor with an IPS panel of 4K (3840×2160p) resolution. The panel itself is a 60 Hz screen with 250 nits of brightness, 1000:1 contrast ratio, 5 ms GtG response time, and it offers 178-degree viewing angles, which is standard for IPS panels. When it comes to the color coverage and the ability to accurately represent them, the SW321C features 95% of the DCI-P3, 99% of the Adobe RGB, and 100% of the sRGB color gamut. It has a 16-bit 3D look-up table (LUT) and features calibration for DeltaE ≤ 2.

The monitor comes with HDR10 specification, however, due to the brightness of 250 nits, it is not capable of performing any serious HDR content editing. Another interesting note is that this monitor supports Hybrid Log-Gamma (HLG) standard, which is an uncommon one. For input, the monitor had support for one DisplayPort 1.4, two HDMI 2.0, and one USB-C port. There is a dual-port USB hub, which has an SD card reader right next to it, making this very useful feature for photographers. Exact pricing and availability of this monitor are unknown, however, it is supposed to hit the market soon.

Acer Japan has today launched two predator monitors based on IPS technology. The two monitors in question are 24.5-inch and 27-inch IPS panels based on 1080p resolution named XB253QGXbmiiprzx (the 24.5-inch model) and XB273GXbmiiprzx (27-inch model), which is not a typo and are the actual name of the models. Both of them feature Display HDR400 certifications, meaning that their maximum brightness is 400 nits. Other specifications include a maximum supported refresh rate of 240 Hz with 1 ms GtG response time that can be reduced to 0.5 ms response time with override mode. There are two options of frame syncing, where one is NVIDIA's G-SYNC, and the other is VESA's Adaptive-Sync. Both of them support up to 240 Hz refresh rate, meaning that you can use any card to get syncing at a high refresh rate. The IPS screen covers 99% of the sRGB color gamut.

For connectivity, Acer has equipped these monitors with one DisplayPort 1.2a, and two HDMI 2.0b ports used for input. There is a USB hub with four USB 3.0 ports and one 3.5 mm headphone jack output. The monitor is rocking two 2 W integrated stereo speakers. When it comes to the pricing, the smaller 24.5-inch model is priced at around ¥46,000 ($430 in the United States) and ¥55,000 (around $500 in the US).

iiyama today announced a new addition to their monitor lineup in the form of the ProLite X4372UHSU. For straters, let me tell you straight from the bat that this monitor doesn't tick many gaming boxes. The 4K resolution is its most appealing feature (and even then, most users would say that a 2560 x 1440 resolution is currently best for gaming with all but the most expensive graphics card solutions). The IPs panel comes in as a close second, though that is typically marred with slower response times - quoted at 4 ms in the announcement.

Other features include a 60 Hz framerate, which is expected given the 4K resolution. Typical brightness stands at a respectable (if nothing to write home about) 450 cd/m², and contrast is quoted at 1300:1. HDR support is therefore present, though no mention of a VESA certification (available at 400 cd/m² brightness). Connectivity-wise, the monitor features 2x HDMI, 2x DisplayPort and 4x USB (2x 3.0 and 2x 2.0) connectors. A bevvy of technologies (Flicker Free, Blue Light Reducer, HDR, PbP (Picture-by-Picture), headphone hook and remote control) aim to make the display more usable with some quality of life features, and the inclusion of 2x 9 W speakers can be a bonus for some (and will for most work environments). The iiyama ProLite X4372UHSU is available at around €490.

MSI got bored of old dark/gray/white laptop designs and decided to spice things up a bit. Say goodbye to the old boring laptops and enter the MSI Prestige 14 Limited Edition Rose Pink laptop. Designed as a premium-looking machine, it has decent specifications to back up the good looks. Equipped with a 14-inch IPS display comes in two variants, a 1080p version, and 4K edition, and it has 100% coverage of the AdobeRGB spectrum. With such specifications, we know that it is targeting the professional content creators.

Under the hood, there is Intel's 10th generation Core i7-10710U "Comet Lake" processor paired with 16 GB of LPDDR3 2133 MHz RAM running in single-channel mode. For graphics, NVIDIA's GTX 1650 Max-Q GPU is on board with 4 GB of GDDR6 memory. Storage is limited to 512 gigabytes of PCIe 3.0 NVMe SSD space, as there is no room for expansion. Connectivity options include Bluetooth 5 and Wi-Fi 6 powered by Intel Wi-Fi 6 AX201 wireless adapter. When it comes to the IO, the Prestige 14 laptop is rocking two USB 2.0 adapter along with two Thunderbolt 3 ports, one 3.5 mm headphone jack, and one Micro-SD card reader. There is also a 3-cell 50 Whr battery powering the system. Price-wise, this laptop is retailing for around $1399 on stores like Amazon and Newegg.

Display specialist AOC announces three new monitors from their entry-level monitor line-up, the B2 series. Ranging from 21.5" (54.7 cm) to 23.8" (60.4 cm) to 27" (68.6 cm) display sizes, all three models feature beautiful 3-side borderless frames and Full HD resolution (1080p), an ultra slim profile and a clean rear with VESA mount support. The monitors offer wide viewing angles (178°), which guarantees an unaltered colour experience from every viewpoint. The 21.5" model 22B2H employs a VA panel with deep blacks and popping colours, while the 23.8" 24B2XH and the 27" 27B2H are equipped with IPS panels reproducing true-to-life colours. Acer has launched the latest addition to its portable monitor lineup -the PM1 portable monitor. The PM1 features a 15.6-inch IPS panel with 1920x1080 resolution, 15 ms GtG response time, a maximum brightness of 250 nits, and 800:1 contrast ratio. It boasts a 60 Hz refresh rate and wide viewing angles, along with anti-glare coating to prevent any unwanted light reflection. Being an IPS type panel, it has 178 degrees viewing angle so you can easily view content from all sides.

The display itself is a 6-bit panel, so it offers somewhat less color accuracy as it is limited to 262,000 colors. It is powered by a single USB type C cable which provides both the power and video input. When powered by a smartphone, which can not provide enough power, there is a secondary micro-USB port to supply additional power. There is also a hinge at the back of the monitor body to support it when it stands. Pricing starts at $179.99 if you are purchasing from Acer directly or $129.99 from Micro Center.

EIZO Corporation today announced the release of the FlexScan EV2760, a 27-inch, WQHD (2560 x 1440) monitor with a frameless design for business environments such as trading rooms, back offices, and control rooms. The FlexScan EV2760 uses a 27-inch LCD panel with 2560 x 1440 native resolution. It implements LED-backlit IPS (in-plane switching) panel technology with 178° wide viewing angles. The typical brightness is 350 cd/m² and the contrast ratio is 1000:1.

MSI at CES 2020 presented the "world's very first" laptop with a built-in display that uses Mini LED technology, called the Creator 17. When it comes to the Mini LED technology itself, it allows individual LEDs inside the screen to be less than 2 mm in size, which is very small and allows for some creative solutions. For example, MSI used this advantage to enable the display to have 240 local dimming zones, representing a big improvement in this size range compared to IPS. Another big improvement that Mini LED brings is that HDR content will get an upgrade as well. Due to the nature of Mini LEDs, the display can achieve a very distinguishing level of contrast between dark and bright areas. CPU support includes options of Intel's 10th generation Core i9 processor, while the GPU option is unknown. For storage, there are slots for two NVMe PCIe 3.0 M.2 SSDs and one M.2 SATA SSD slot.

LG at its pre-CES show showed off the UltraGear 38GL950G it announced back in September, a 38-inch curved ultrawide monitor that's recommended for motorsport gaming (racing games). With a 21:9 aspect ratio, and WQHD+ (3840 x 1600 pixels) resolution, the 38GL950G offers 144 Hz refresh-rate (up to 175 Hz possible with overclocking), and 1 ms response-time. The monitor is also NVIDIA G-SYNC compatible. The Nano IPS panel provides 98% DCI-P3 coverage and is DisplayHDR 400 certified. Also featured is Sphere Lighting 2.0, the latest version of LG's ambient lighting technology that uses circular RGB LED diffusers behind the panel.

ASUS today showed off its latest flagship gaming monitor for bleeding-edge resolution and speed, the ROG Swift PF32UQX. This 32-inch flat-screen boasts of specs made of dreams: non-glare IPS panel, support for NVIDIA G-SYNC Ultimate (hardware G-SYNC), the highest-grade DisplayHDR 1400 certification with 1,400 cd/m² maximum brightness and 1,152 local dimming zones, 4K Ultra HD (3840 x 2160 pixels) resolution, and 144 Hz refresh-rate. The included DisplayPort 1.4 cable is required to let the monitor work its magic, besides three HDMI 2.0 inputs. The monitor also offers 90% DCI-P3 color gamut. The monitor will also pack all ROG-exclusive features from ASUS.

While its Full HD (1920 x 1080 pixels) resolution is nothing to write home about, the 280 Hz refresh-rate is sure to get noticed by e-Sports gamers. Besides these, you get 1 ms response time (GTG), 178°/178° viewing angles; DisplayHDR 400 certification, and support for ELMB-sync and NVIDIA G-Sync. ELMB-sync allows simultaneous variable refresh-rate and blur reduction. The best part is that the monitor uses an IPS panel rather than TN-film. It takes input from DisplayPort 1.2 and two HDMI ports. The company didn't reveal pricing.
