AAEON Unveils BOXER-8642AI Edge AI Box Featuring 8 Independent 10Gbps USB and up to 275 TOPS

AAEON Technology Inc. (stock code: 6579), a leading designer and manufacturer of industrial and embedded computers, today announced the release of the BOXER-8642AI, a fanless embedded AI computer featuring eight independent 10 Gbps USB ports, powered by either a 32 GB or 64 GB NVIDIA Jetson AGX Orin module.
Built for the smart retail market, the BOXER-8642AI is able to support multiple Intel RealSense D405 3D cameras for high and wide bandwidth image processing to facilitate inferencing tasks conducive to applications such as AI-assisted self-checkout kiosks.

The BOXER-8642AI's design is suitable for reliable, around-the-clock operation in various retail environments, as indicated by its 12 V to 24 V power input range and -25°C and 55°C temperature tolerance. Moreover, AAEON claims the device's standout feature, its selection of 10 Gbps USB ports, have been tested to ensure they can withstand continuous on/off cycling while maintaining a drop-rate of less than 0.1%.

As enterprises race to adopt generative AI and bring new services to market, the demands on data center infrastructure have never been greater. Training large language models is one challenge, but delivering LLM-powered real-time services is another. In the latest round of MLPerf industry benchmarks, Inference v4.1, NVIDIA platforms delivered leading performance across all data center tests. The first-ever submission of the upcoming NVIDIA Blackwell platform revealed up to 4x more performance than the NVIDIA H100 Tensor Core GPU on MLPerf's biggest LLM workload, Llama 2 70B, thanks to its use of a second-generation Transformer Engine and FP4 Tensor Cores.

They're also more efficient since they only activate a few experts per inference - meaning they deliver results much faster than dense models of a similar size.

For the Nintendo Switch 2, NVIDIA is said to utilize a customized variant of NVIDIA Jetson Orin SoC for automotive applications. The reference Orin SoC carries a codename T234, while this alleged adaptation has a T239 codename; the version is most likely optimized for power efficiency. The reference Orin design is a considerable uplift compared to the Tegra X1, as it boasts 12 Cortex-A78AE cores and LPDDR5 memory, along with Ampere GPU microarchitecture. Built on Samsung's 8 nm node, the efficiency would likely yield better battery life and position the second-generation Switch well among the now extended handheld gaming console market. However, including Ampere architecture would also bring technologies like DLSS, which would benefit the low-power SoC.
