Jelly Key Launches New Zen Pond Artisan Keycaps Group Buy

For those unfamiliar with Jelly Key, I highly encourage going through our previous coverage of the Vietnamese artisan's works wherein we've seen several different examples of highly detailed themes which get put to life on your keyboard courtesy artisan keycaps that use a resin pour over a layer-by-layer assembly incorporating individually molded tiny pieces. In particular, we've covered a keycap each from the Zen Pond III and Zen Pond IV group buy series that depict a school of Koi fish swimming in a pond. This was the design that made Jelly Key famous and also where it introduced the so-called "Eden Effect" that makes the resin background feel like it is part of the scene itself.

Jelly Key's latest group buy is active now and it builds upon the previous two in the new Zen Pond V series group buy titled "Zen Pond - Lost then found". Thanks to some shipping logistics issues, once again the prototype sent over came after the group buy had begun so I had no time to do a quick look article on it. Instead, I figured those interested in the Zen Ponds theme that were not able to pick one up last time should know now is the time to do so, especially given the new Droplet profile that makes for spherical corners and an overall rounded structure to make the resin and craftsmanshop more easily appreciated at a typical viewing angle. The Koi fish models are larger and look more naturally swimming in the resin pond too, including with wakes left behind the tail fins. The new group buy started Jan 18 and is scheduled to end Jan 25, however they usually sell out a few days earlier to where you might want to jump into the pond early if these keycaps interest you. The Zen Pond V keycaps are available in five designs, four keycap profiles, and 12 sizes. These cost $55-105 each and, as seen on the group buy page, there are further discounts and free shipping for those buying multiple keycaps. Read past the break for photos of my prototype space bar keycap.

Update: Jelly Key had kindly provided TPU readers with a 5% discount code: 5%-tpu-498djh9

The first planned series of 3D printed peripheral upgrades are limited edition custom keycaps, designed to fit on HyperX and most other mechanical keyboards, available to consumers over the coming months.

"We know gamers love customization, spending a lot of time and effort to update all kinds of in-game items, from characters to skins to weapons and beyond," said Daniel Kelley, global head of marketing, HyperX. "HX3D is taking this love of personalizing a gaming experience to the physical world and enabling a wide range of fun ways to update and customize our award-winning HyperX gear."

Jelly Key Launches New Dragons of Eden Artisan Keycaps Group Buy

For those unfamiliar with Jelly Key, I highly encourage going through our previous coverage of the Vietnamese artisan's works wherein we've seen several different examples of highly detailed themes which get put to life on your keyboard courtesy artisan keycaps that use a resin pour over a layer-by-layer assembly incorporating individually molded tiny pieces. In particular, a little over an year ago saw the previous Dragons of Eden theme being covered and this week marks the latest group buy from Jelly Key that further builds upon this with finer detail and an expanded "Eden Effect" that makes the resin background feel like it is part of the scene itself.

Jelly Key had sent over a prototype keycap but it arrived just before the group buy started to where I was unable to do my usual quick look style article on it. Instead, I figured those interested in the Dragons theme that were not able to pick one up last time should know now is the time to do so. The Dragons of Eden: the Rise of Supreme Power artisan keycaps from Jelly Key are currently available under the group buy option that ends 22nd December 2022, with no further sales planned. The keycaps are available in five designs, two keycap profiles including a brand new Jelly Key "Droplet" profile that looks amazing for these artisanal works, and ten sizes. These cost $58-100 each and, as seen on the group buy page, there are further discounts and free shipping for those buying multiple keycaps. Read past the break for photos of my prototype keycap.

NVIDIA Introduces New "RTX On" Keycaps as an Exclusive Social Media Giveaway

NVIDIA today announced the latest in the trend of branded PC customization. Taking the form of the new "RTX On" keycaps, NVIDIA has brought brushed aluminium reflections outside the scope of virtual worlds, and straight towards gamer's (and fan's) keyboards. Built "exclusively for the NVIDIA community", the new "RTX On" keycaps don't require a powerful RTX 30-series graphics cards to enable any eye-candy, which will come as good news for the many users still looking to upgrade their GPUs in the current pricing climate.

NVIDIA's keycap is prominently shown as a replacement "Escape" key - the most common of keycap replacements. This seems like a wise decision, considering how the RTX logo is a textured affair that might otherwise interfere with frantic gaming, typing or programming scenarios. The keycaps, which NVIDIA has said won't make it into retail products, will solely be distributed via the company's social media channels throughout Spring and Summer this year. The company has seemingly been investing more and more in similar community and social-media based offers - perhaps because scalpers have a harder time running away with stocks of these limited distribution products.

Cougar Rolls Out Vantar AX Black: You Can Finally Read the Keycaps

Cougar today rolled out the Vantar AX Black slimline keyboard. This is a variant of the original Vantar AX keyboard the company launched in mid-2020, but with a big design change—the keycaps are finally legible. The original uses frosted, translucent keycaps with black lettering, which are hard to read with the lighting turned on. The new Vantar AX Black uses more sober-looking black keycaps with the letters being illuminated (like on most illuminated keyboards). The underlying scissor-type switches are unchanged from the original, as is the aluminium unibody with diamond-cut edges. The keyboard measures 445 mm x 127 mm x 15 mm (WxDxH), weighing 626 g. The company didn't announce pricing.

With about 60% of the size of a full-sized keyboard, the Huntsman Mini still retains all the essential keys for gaming. Functions normally assigned to dedicated keys on a full-sized keyboard are still present as secondary functions, printed onto the side of the keycaps. Even more functions or macros can be assigned to any key via Razer Hypershift within Razer Synapse 3.

Quick Look: HyperX Doubleshot PBT Pudding Keycaps (White)

We took a close look at HyperX's new keyboard, the Alloy Origins, earlier this week, and were left impressed with it. The company had sent along also a set of their new replacement keycap set for us to check out, and this seemed like a great product to trial out a shorter article format to cover products that otherwise would not merit multi-page reviews. Let us know what you feel about such posts, and if you would like us to expand coverage accordingly.

The HyperX-branded PBT plastic keycaps with doubleshot injected legends use the so-called "pudding" construction, with the top 1/3 of the keycap sides only left opaque to allow for more light to go through. The black and white set was originally sold beginning late last year, and there must have been enough demand for HyperX to dedicate a new SKU for an all-white edition. Read past the break for more on the new keycap set, including fit and finish on the Alloy Origins keyboard too.
