Samsung Debuts the S27B970 27-Inch QHD Monitor

Samsung Electronics has just launched (in South Korea first) a brand new, high-grade consumer monitor, the Premium Smart Monitor 970 aka the S27B970. Seen below, this 27-inch display features a PLS (Plane to Line Switching) panel with 178/178 degree viewing angles, a native resolution of 2560 x 1440 pixels, a 5 ms response time, 300 cd/m2 maximum brightness, DVI, HDMI (with MHL support) and DisplayPort connectors, a 2-port USB hub, plus built-in speakers.

The S27B970 comes with a three-year warranty and costs about $1,177 (in South Korea).

Philips Introduces the 221S3UCB USB Monitor

Philips has today announced the European release of the 221S3UCB 21.5-inch monitor which gets both power and signal via a USB connection. Part of the business-oriented S-Line family, this USB display features a TN panel, white LED backlighting, a native resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels, a 5 ms response time, a maximum brightness of 150 cd/m2, and a contrast ratio of 1,000:1.

The 221S3UCB also has a stand allowing for tilt, rotation and height adjustment, and it comes with a recommended price tag of 145 Euro (plus VAT).

Green House Also Releases 20-inch Widescreen Monitors

Green House also introduced a pair of 20-inch widescreen monitors under the GH-AAH203SDL series, the GH-AAH203SDLB (black) and GH-AAH203SDLW (white). The two pack 1600x900 pixels resolution with 1,000:1 contrast ratio (5,000,000:1 DCR), 5 ms response time, 250 cd/m² brightness, and 160°/160° viewing angles. A distinctive feature is a low-power white LED backlight power saving mode, which drops backlight power draw down to under 1W. The monitors include a pair of 4W stereo speakers. Display inputs include DVI and D-Sub. Measuring 478.2 x 189.4 x 350.0 mm (WxDxH), these monitors weigh 3 kg. Backed by 3 year warranty, and slated for late May, the GH-AAH203SDL is priced at 12,800 JPY (US $160).

LG’s New Cloud Monitors Combine UPoE and IPS to Create a Total Business Solution

LG Electronics (LG) unveiled its advanced P Series of cloud monitors, allowing companies to do away with desktops and laptops altogether. The new VMware-based Zero Client monitors can be networked to create a virtual comput-ing system and come packaged with Cisco's Universal Power over Ethernet (UPoE) technology, enabling centralized resources, greater system security and reduced costs.

AOC Intros New 50-Series Desktop Monitors

AOC introduced a pair of new 50-series desktop monitors, the 21.5-inch e2250Swdn, and 24-inch e2450Swd. The two are LED-backlit LCD monitors, and its makers maintain that these draw up to 50 percent less power than CCFL-lit monitors. Both models feature 1920x1080 pixels resolution, 5 ms response time, and 20,000,000:1 dynamic contrast ratio, and inputs that include DVI-D (HDCP), and D-sub (VGA). Both models feature 15 mm slim profile. The e2250Swdn is priced at US $149.99, while the e2450Swd goes for $179.99.

Acer Announces New G Series Monitors

Acer announced a pair of G Series 21.5-inch LED-backlit LCD monitors, the G225HQLAbmid and G225HQLAbd. Both monitors pack a glossy TN-film panel, with 1920x1080 pixels resolution, 5 ms response time, 250 cd/m² maximum brightness, and 1000:1 static contrast ratio. The monitors feature Acer Crystal Brite technology, and up to 100 million colors reproduction. The Eco Mode feature works to conserve power. Where the two models differ is inputs and speakers. While the G225HQLAbmid features HDMI, DVI-D (HDCP), D-Sub, and built-in 2W stereo speakers; the G225HQLAbd lacks HDMI and built-in speakers. Both will be released to market towards the end of May.

Iiyama Releases the ProLite T2234MC Multi-touch Monitor

Iiyama Corp. has just launched the ProLite T2234MC, a 21.5-inch monitor which features an IPS panel and makes use of projective capacitive touch technology to allow for two-finger multi-touch. Mitsubishi Electric Japan, launched a duo of 23-inch widescreen LED-backlit LCD monitors under its DiamondCrysta Wide series, the RDT234WX and RDT234WX-S. The two differ with the RDT234WX having an anti-glare matte coating, while the RDT234WX-S lacks it. The monitors are backed by IPS panels the provide richer color reproduction, with 1920x1080 pixels resolution, and response time as low as 3.5 ms, if its Overdrive feature is enabled. Both monitors provide 1000:1 contrast ratio (8000:1 DCR), 250 cd/m² maximum brightness, and display inputs that include two HDMI, one DVI, and a D-Sub. 545 x 170 x 394 mm (WxDxH), these monitors weigh around 4.9 kg. Other features include 2+2W stereo speakers and TV tuning (optional). The RDT234WX is slated for May 16, and the RDT234WX-S for June 15.

Acer Rolls Out the HN274HBbmiiid 27-inch 3D Monitor

Acer has this week announced the European release of its HN274HBbmiiid 3D monitor featuring support for NVIDIA's 3D LightBoost technology. This 27-inch display has a 120 Hz Full HD (1920 x 1080) panel, a built-in IR receiver, an LED backlight, a 2 ms response time, a contrast ratio of 1,000:1 (DCR is 100,000,000:1), 300 cd/m2 maximum brightness, and D-Sub, DVI and triple HDMI connectors.

1366 x 768 Most Popular Screen Resolution, Overtakes 1024 x 768: StatCounter

1366 x 768 pixels overtook 1024 x 768 as the most popular screen resolution worldwide, for computers, according to the latest statistics by StatCount. This new dominant screen resolution is a particularly important statistic for web-developers, as they can now make their designs more optimized for at least 1366 pixels-wide screens. 1920 x 1080 and 1680 x 1050 hold less than 5% of the market-share each. The growth of 1366 x 768 could have been propelled by dominance in the notebook market (across almost all market-segments), and entry-level PC monitor market. EIZO DuraVision FDH3601 On Display at NAB 2012

EIZO's 4K posterboy, DuraVision FDH3601 will be up for display on the 14th of April at the NABShow 2012, in Las Vegas USA, a convention of creative professionals and production houses. What makes this 36.4" PC monitor an eyeball magnet (literally), is that it sports a 4K resolution (4096 x 2160 pixels), and has a bleeding-edge featureset for content-creators. So high is its resolution, that it requires two dual-link DVI connections (or two DisplayPort connections, provided they transport two TMDS links each). It can deliver 100% coverage of the RGB palette, with the ability to reproduce 278 trillion colors. Other vital stats include 700 cd/m² brightness, 1000:1 contrast ratio, 176° and 176° (H and V) viewing angles, and 8 ms response time. The DuraVision FDH3601 was first announced in 2011. It costs a little over $35,000.

Philips Launches LightFrame-equipped 23-inch Moda Monitor

Philips announced a new 23-inch monitor for home and small-business consumers, the Moda 248X3LFHSB. The monitor is equipped with what its makers refer to as "LightFrame", a unique bezel that emits a soft-blue light that works to reduce eye strain and improve concentration. Its base and arm are made of aluminum. Its 23.6-inch panel sports full-HD resolution.

The monitor takes input from one D-Sub and two HDMI connectors. There are other Philips-exclusives, such as SmartColor, which auto-adjusts settings to result in the best color reproduction; SmartTXT, which works to improve the legibility to text; and SmartResponse, which is basically a low response time that works to alleviate "ghosting", in fast-moving images. The Philips Moda 248X3LFHSB is priced at SG $399 (US $316).

LG Intros Flatron M2380D Monitor

LG introduced the Flatron M2380D LED-backlit LCD monitor with TV-tuner. As a monitor, this 23-incher sports 1920x1080 pixels resolution, with 5,000,000:1 dynamic contrast ratio, 250 cd/m² maximum brightness, and 5 ms response time, with a trio of display inputs: DVI, HDMI, and D-Sub. The built-in TV tuner converts it into a conventional 1080p HDTV. The Flatron M2380D should be available in two color options, white (-WH) and black (-BK). Pictured below is the Flatron M2380D-WH. In the Japanese market, it goes for the equivalent of US $307.

Acer Introduces the V273HL Monitor

Acer has this week added a new monitor to its portfolio, the V273HL model featuring a 27-inch Full HD (1920 x 1080) TN panel, LED backlighting, and a (dynamic) contrast ratio of 100,000,000:1. Acer's display also has 170/160 degree viewing angles, a 5 ms response time, a maximum brightness of 300 cd/m2, two 1 W built-in speakers, and D-Sub, DVI and HDMI inputs.

The V273HL has a recommended price tag of 299 Euro.

NEC Display Solutions Updates MultiSync EA Series with EA223WM

NEC Display Solutions of America, a leading provider of commercial LCD display and projector solutions, announced today the latest addition to its next-generation MultiSync EA Series, the 22-inch EA223WM for high-performance enterprise users.

Improving upon its predecessor, the EA223WM is mercury-free and more energy efficient as a result of LED backlighting technology.
