Opera, the Norwegian browser company, is releasing Opera One R2, the new major version of its AI-powered browser. Building upon the modular design and integrated AI capabilities of Opera One, which was released in 2023, the new Opera One R2 introduces a host of new features and enhancements, making it the most powerful and best-looking Opera browser to date.

Opera One R2 features Opera's latest AI innovations. It also introduces dynamic themes that allow users to personalize their browsing experience with a static or animated interface, sound effects, and music.

Opera GX, the browser for gamers, is bringing a significant update to the browser's built-in AI, Aria. This update provides users with the latest AI features that Opera has been releasing as part of their experimental AI Feature Drops program in the Developer stream of the Opera One browser. The features that are arriving to Opera GX increase Aria's capabilities by introducing image generation and understanding, voice output, a chat summary option, and links to sources.

Image Generation and Voice Output
Images are crucial to today's web, so this Opera GX update places a strong focus on the visual. With this update, Aria is gaining the ability to turn text prompts and descriptions into unique images using the image generation model Imagen2 by Google. Aria identifies the user's intention to generate an image based on conversational prompts. They can also use the "regenerate" option to have Aria come up with a new image. Aria allows them to generate 30 images per day per user.

Opera, the browser innovator, today announced a collaboration with Google Cloud to integrate Gemini models into its Aria browser AI. Aria is powered by Opera's multi-LLM Composer AI engine, which allows the Norwegian company to curate the best experiences for its users based on their needs.

Opera's Aria browser AI is unique as it doesn't just utilize one provider or LLM. Opera's Composer AI engine processes the user's intent and can decide which model to use for which task. Google's Gemini model is a modern, powerful, and user-friendly LLM that is the company's most capable model yet. Thanks to this integration, Opera will now be able to provide its users with the most current information, at high performance.

Logitech has announced that all video collaboration devices that run on the CollabOS operating system will now be manufactured with next-life plastics, helping enterprise customers support their sustainability objectives. Existing products- Rally Bar, Rally Bar Mini, Tap IP, Tap Scheduler, and Scribe- are being refreshed with materials that lower the carbon impact of each product. IBM today announced its new 127-quantum bit (qubit) 'Eagle' processor at the IBM Quantum Summit 2021, its annual event to showcase milestones in quantum hardware, software, and the growth of the quantum ecosystem. Quantum computing taps into the fundamental quantum nature of matter at subatomic levels to offer the possibility of vastly increased computing power. Opera has announced that the latest, Release Candidate (RC) version of their web browser now incorporates an innovative cryptocurrency mining protection baked in. Opera has been one of the most versatile browsers for some time now, offering integrated VPN, AdBlocker, and bandwidth reduction on its releases. Some issues, such as measure of lacking visibility against Firefox and Chrome, and performance that's seldom in the top spot from the available offerings in the market, has kept this browser from being the go-to option for users. Now, the opera team have again innovated, by integrating a cryptocurrency web mining blocker onto the latest release.

The solution, dubbed NoCoin, works within the confines of the integrated AdBlocking protection, with extended lists that eliminates cryptocurrency mining scripts that "overuse your device's computing ability." To enable the mining protection, users need to go to Settings or Preferences. The NoCoin (Cryptocurrency) setting can be found in Recommended lists of ad filters in the Block ads page. "With NoCoin turned on, pages embedded with cryptocurrency mining scripts will be blocked in a similar way our mechanism blocks ads," said Opera desktop QA Kornelia Mielczarczyk. This is all well and good, but some extensions already offer this kind of protection, and with Google adding their own AdBlocking solution to Chrome in early 2018, this feature exclusivity likely won't remain an additional arrow in Opera's feature quiver for long.

AMD (NYSE:AMD) today announced revenue for the second quarter of 2012 of $1.41 billion, net income of $37 million, or $0.05 per share, and operating income of $77 million. The company reported non-GAAP net income of $46 million, or $0.06 per share, and non-GAAP operating income of $86 million.

"Overall weakness in the global economy, softer consumer spending and lower channel demand for our desktop processors in China and Europe made the closing weeks of the quarter challenging," said Rory Read, AMD president and CEO. "We are taking definitive steps to improve our performance and correct the issues within our control as we expect headwinds will continue in the third quarter as the industry sets a new baseline. According to data collected by Net Applications, February saw both Microsoft Internet Explorer and Google Chome losing some browser market share which was quickly picked up by Apple's Safari, Mozilla's Firefox and Opera.

Last month's numbers still have IE on top with 52.84% of the market (down from 52.96% in January), while Firefox kept its silver medal by securing a 20.92% share (20.88%). On third place we have Chrome with 18.90% (18.94% in the previous month), while on fourth Safari has once again passed the 5% mark, topping 5.24% (4.90%). Opera was fifth with a 1.71% share (1.67%).

Opera Software announced today that it has acquired Mobile Theory Inc. and 4th Screen Advertising, Ltd., to significantly expand its offering to advertisers and mobile publishers that engage consumers via the mobile web and applications, across all mobile platforms. Opera offers complete advertising solutions for mass-market feature phone and smartphone platforms, including iOS, Android, Blackberry, Java and Symbian.

Additionally, these acquisitions will enable Opera to better monetize the traffic that flows through Opera Mini and Opera Mobile browsers. With the world's most popular mobile browser, Opera serves more than 160 million monthly active users that generate more than 100 billion page views, and consume more than 16 Petabytes of mobile data services a month, as of December 2011.

Adobe is working on a new sandboxed version of the Flash Player browser plugin for Firefox. The move will make it tougher to compromise a system's security using malicious Shockwave Flash objects. The new plugin for Firefox (and other browsers like Opera, which rely on the common Netscape Plugin Wrapper model of browser plugins), will work essentially similar to the Flash Player Google Chrome ships with, which works in a "Protected Mode". When "sandboxed" Shockwave Flash objects in webpages will work as separate processes, with much lower privileges than the actual user, the user's machine environment will be kept abstract to it. Adobe has already redesigned the browser plugin of its Reader X (PDF viewer) to work this way, and hasn't seen a significant successful exploit since November, last year.

The Khronos Group released the final WebGL 1.0 specification to enable hardware-accelerated 3D graphics in HTML5 Web browsers without the need for plug-ins. WebGL defines a JavaScript binding to OpenGL ES 2.0 to allow rich 3D graphics within a browser on any platform supporting the industry-standard OpenGL or OpenGL ES graphics APIs. WebGL has the support of major silicon and browser vendors including Apple, Google, Mozilla and Opera with multiple browsers already shipping with WebGL implementations including the beta releases for Mozilla Firefox 4.0, all channels of Google Chrome 9.0, an Opera preview build, and Apple Mac OS Safari nightly builds.

WebGL leverages the pervasive availability of OpenGL ES 2.0 graphics on almost all browser-capable desktop, mobile and embedded platforms and the recent developments in Web technology including the massive increases in JavaScript performance. The ability for Web developers to directly access OpenGL-class graphics directly from JavaScript, and freely mix 3D with other HTML content, will enable a new wave of innovation in Web gaming, educational and training applications and graphically rich user interfaces to make the Web more enjoyable, productive and intuitive.

There is a valid reason behind why Safari is growing in browser market-share, apart from the fact that iPhone carries it: it is arguably the fastest browser there is. The fourth beta version that surfaced earlier this week went a few notches ahead of Firefox (Minefield) 3.2a1 and Google Chrome in a review conducted by CNet, to take the top-sport for the fastest web-browser. Internet Explorer (IE) versions 7 and 8, Opera 9.6, Firefox 3, Chrome, Firefox(Minefield) 3.1 Alpha 1 and Safari 4 were put through JavaScript tests using the SunSpider suite. The PC was equipped with a Core 2 Duo processor running at 2.10 GHz. Safari 4 beta gave IE 7 a sound thrashing at the test, emerging 42 times faster. The performance difference between the two were so vast that the reviewers had to prepare a seperate graph without IE 7 so there could be more resolution in the charts showing the differences between the rest of the contendors. Then again, one must take into account the fact that Chrome and Firefox (Minefield) 3.2 weren't all that behind Safari 4 beta, only a few notches. The scores are denoted by render time in terms of milliseconds. Lesser the better. The scores stand at:
