Corsair Intros 180-degree 12VHPWR Power Bridge

Corsair rolled out a handy accessory that should help cable management in builds with graphics cards that have 16-pin 12VHPWR power connectors. Called simply the 12VHPWR GPU Power Bridge, the contraption inverts the power connector 180° as shown in the pictures below; so your power cable emerging from behind the motherboard tray doesn't have to make that turn. The Power Bridge hence reduces mechanical stress on the power cable from your PSU.

Unlike several such 180° power bridges of generic brands floating around online retail, some of which even convert 8-pin PCIe to a 12VHPWR; the Corsair Power Bridge comes with the quality assurance that comes with the badge. The company claims to have extensively tested it for endurance. The internal wiring between the two connectors on the bridge is tested to withstand 105 °C temperatures. Please note, that the bridge is not physically compatible with the ASUS ROG Strix and TUF Gaming graphics cards. The company is backing this with a 1-year warranty.

Report: ASUS to Start Production of GPUs With No External Power Connectors

We witnessed an exciting concept during the Computex 2023 show in late May. ASUS has developed a GPU without an external power connector called GC_HPWR. Unlike current solutions, this connection type doesn't require additional cables. Using the GC_HPWR means that power is being supplied directly from the motherboard and that these special-edition GPUs also require special-edition motherboards. Thanks to the latest information from the Bilibili content creator Eixa Studio, attending Bilibili World 2023 exhibition in Shanghai, China, we have information that ASUS is preparing mass production of these zero-cable GPU solutions. Scheduled to enter mass production in Fall, ASUS plans to deliver these GPUs and accompanying motherboards before the year ends.

Additionally, it is worth noting that the motherboard lineup is called Back To Future (BTF), and the first GPU showcased was the GeForce RTX 4070 Megalodon. The PSU connectors are placed on the back side of the BTF board, while the CG_HPWR connector sits right next to the PCIe x16 expansion slot and looks like a PCIe x1 connector. You can see images of both products below.

be quiet! Dark Power PSU Owner Reports Melting of 12VHPWR Connector

A member of the amusingly named and low populated r/4090Burning subreddit has reported a strange incident where the PSU side of his 12VHPWR connector had melted. Shiftyeyes67k shared his equipment's plight two days ago and included two photos with his story: "Started noticing a smell coming from my PSU (be quiet! Dark Power 13 1000 W) recently that smelled like burnt plastic. Decided to swap it out and noticed that the 12VHPWR cable was burned...From everything I've read this generally happens to the connector on the GPU side so I'm wondering if anyone has seen this yet?" His feedback shows that the relatively new connection standard has ongoing reliability issues, even though most 16-pin connector problem cases have affected beastly GPUs such as NVIDIA's GeForce RTX 4090.

The be quiet! Dark Power 13 1000 W PSU has native support for the 16-pin cable standard, and no type of adapter was used in Shiftyeyes67k's example. Tom's Hardware reported on this sole incident recently, and a be quiet! representative responded to the article's content (updated today): "This is a unique case and we already have reached out to the customer to learn more." The company statement continues: "As our brand is known for highest quality standards, we treat this seriously and have initiated an investigation." be quiet! recommends that any customers experiencing similar issues should contact their support team directly. Tom's Hardware has attempted to get a comment from NVIDIA about the latest problem, but "an Nvidia spokesperson said we may not hear back for a few days due to a company closure."

The chunky casing features sizable anti-vibration rubber pads that ensure that the APNX F1 and F2 operate at super quiet levels. There were many color options on display at the company's booth - so system builders will be have plenty of tonal customizations to experiment with. The F1 has a bi-chromatic plastic design, while the F2 has a textured metal frame - the latter will be supplied with a swappable reverse air flow fan blade. AeroCool is still in the process of finalizing these F-models, so availability and pricing will be announced at a later time.

Cooler Master Shows New X Series PSUs at Computex 2023

Cooler Master has showcased a couple of new PSUs at the Computex 2023, including the X Silent series Max and Edge PSUs, which are "near-silent" and fanless models that should be coming soon. In addition, Cooler Master has come up with some high-quality 12VHPWR 90 degree cables that should be better than standard ones.

The X Series Max is described as "near-silent" since it has a low speed RGB fan in order to support higher wattage, but will keep the noise at 20dB. The X Silent Max will be available in models of up to 1300 W and uses a single-piece heat dissipation structure. The X Series Edge is a whole different beast as this is a completely fanless PSU, that features special airflow-improving extended fan cover, vapor chamber technology, and the same single-piece heat dissipation structure. The X Series Edge will go to up to 750 W. Both of these X Series PSUs are ATX 3.0 and PCIe 5.0 compliant, which means they come with 12VHPWR cables, and both support Cooler Master's MasterControl software, allowing users to monitor temperature, current load, and overall performance. Cooler Master also unveiled new 12VHPWR cables, with 90-degree angle that should prevent unnecessary bending, as well as an upgraded connector design with double springs and thicker wire, which should be better than those previous cables and reduce the connector temperatures by 5 degrees.

be quiet! at Computex 2023: New Shadow Base Series, Dark Base 901/701, and Straight Power 12 PSU

be quiet!, a German company focusing on creating PC components and accessories, had a strong presence at Computex 2023. Showing off its cases and power supplies, the company introduced a few additions to its portfolio of offerings. For starters, be quiet! has introduced a new case series called Shadow Base. The new Shadow Base lineup is focused on maximum airflow and maximum performance, where the company has made a new open mesh design that allows for "exceptionally high airflow." Inaugurating model of the series is the Shadow Base 800, which comes in three flavors: standard, DX, and FX. The standard edition is just a regular case without flashy RGB; the DX model has an RGB strip, while the FX model is tailored for maximum RGB illumination across the case. With up to E-ATX motherboard support, the case supports three or four 140 mm fans, depending on the variant. You can see the specification sheet below.

Streacom Redesigning the PSU SFX Form-factor with ZS800

Streacom unveiled a rather interesting power supply unit at its Computex 2023 showcase, the 800 W ZS800. While it might look a bit strange, Streacom's reasons behind such a product makes sense, considering it started as a project to create a "better" power supply for SFF builds, leading to what you can see in these pictures below.

According to Streacom, the biggest improvement to be done were on the cables, namely the 24-pin ATX cable which is bulky and quite difficult to handle, especially in tight SFF cases. The breakthrough came with the announcement of Intel's ATX12VO specification (12 V-only) and since Streacom has experience with compact DC to DC ATX converters, this led to reduced number of pins for the 24-pin cable, at least on the PSU side, as it still needs a 24-pin adapter for the motherboard. Such a hybrid solution also means that the ZS800 is actually both ATX 3.0 and ATX12VO compatible.

Cougar Showcases Polar X2 and GEX X2 PSUs at Computex

Cougar has presented its ATX 3.0 standard PSU models at this year's Computex event - in the shape of Polar X2 and GEX X2 offerings - with both families sporting HDB fans and 12+4 Pin 12VHPWR connectors for PCI Express 5.0 support. These PSUs feature 100% Japanese-manufactured capacitors - the premium-grade components are advertised to extend unit operational lifespans by 300%. Cougar boasts that its range-topping power supply is more than prepared to take on the most modern and demanding GPU technologies, including NVIDIA's GeForce RTX 40 Series cards.

The GEX X2 lineup is comprised of 1200, 1000, 850, 750 and 650 W output offerings according to larger banners exhibited at Computex - Cougar's own website and online PR material only list 1000 W and 850 W. The fully modular GEX X2 is advertised as one of the most compact energy-efficient 80 Plus Gold certified PSUs - it also packs high quality 100% Japanese-manufactured capacitors. Cougar reckons that the unit's diminutive dimensions (length is measured as 140 mm) somewhat hide an energy efficient powerhouse. The GEX X2's modest footprint opens up many options when it comes to various PC build sizes and power requirements.
